12.01.2022 Do you know you are almost invisible to others while you paddle in rough water? Being invisible increases your odds to get run over by a vessel or not being det...ected in case of a rescue search if you had an emergency. What could you do to make things better? Wear bright color paddling gear Apply bright color decals to your surfski and paddle blade Cary a couple of flares if you need to signal your position Avoid heavy marine traffic as much as possible Have a very loud whistle (not that effective if you are facing a large ship or a noisy speed boat in windy conditions) Consider this: Large ships will not detect you on their radar screens but even if they could see you they will not change their heading nor try to stop. Some ships will take miles to stop or change direction and they wouldn't engage in "dodging surfski paddlers" activities.
