20.01.2022 SNAKE REPELLERS DO NOT WORK Please people, don’t waste your money. SNAKE SHOCK OR VIBRATION AVERSION methods are also not recommended as they cause damage to yo...ur pet's mental health. TIPS TO KEEP SNAKES AWAY: Keep your grass short and garden tidy Remove rubbish that can be a hiding spot - no piles of tin, logs, woodpiles etc Consider snake-proof fencing (bury under ground 20-30cm deep) trap/bait rodents (they are a food source) be careful that you don't accidentally bait/trap your pets. keep cats inside supervise dogs when outside, better yet, keep on a leash be wary about the times you choose to walk your dog and where you walk it. Remember that for every snake that you see, there are likely five plus that you don’t! 19.01.2022 Very interesting read on crating dogs.
15.01.2022 Due to recent local individuals recommending to members of the public to use containment systems to keep their dogs in and promoting a local business who sells them I feel as a Professionally Qualified Behavioural Trainer and Assessor that official info from reliable recommended sources should be placed on this page for people to read up on the damage that is being done by using these extremely outdated and dangerous products. I also need to make it known a real qualified pro...fessional using current best practice would not recommend these types of training methods if they really knew what behavior, training and modification is all about. If you really love your pets you would not abuse them for a quick fix. Pure laziness not to help your dog and train it safely and humanely. Here is the link to the Australian Veterinary Association, please read all instead of skimming to the bits that suit. I will put more links up as I have time to do so.
14.01.2022 **ALERT** With many of us back into spring gardening, the Animal Poisons Helpline has noticed an increase in cases of snail bait poisoning. We would like to r...emind all pet owners about the safe use of snail bait. Most snail bait products that are available in Australia and New Zealand contain either metaldehyde, methiocarb or iron-EDTA. Dogs often find these products highly attractive and will ingest large quantities (the whole box) if given the chance to do so. Some products may be labelled as pet friendly whilst others incorporate a bittering agent to deter ingestion. In our experience these bittering agents do not stop curious dogs and whilst some snail baits are considered safer than others, it is important to note that a large ingestion of any of these products may result in life-threatening poisoning. To prevent snail bait poisoning in your pets; Ensure your pets never have access to the packaging. Many of these products are available in cardboard boxes and can easily be chewed through. Use as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Do not sprinkle excessive quantities or heap pellets in any particular area. Applying more than recommended can drastically increase the risk to pets. Be careful not to sprinkle any pellets onto pedestrian pathways next to your garden. Passing dogs may find these highly appetising and you may inadvertently poison someone else’s pet. Consider pesticide free solutions such as manually removing snails. If your pet has ingested any snail bait, early assessment and intervention where appropriate can be lifesaving. Please call the Animal Poisons Helpline immediately on 1300 869 738 (AU) or 0800 869 738 (NZ) for advice, even if your pet looks well. Our service is free for all pet owners. 13.01.2022 Fireworks/Thunder if you know your animals have a fear of fireworks please keep your pets inside and seek veterinary advice to alleviate these symptoms especially during festivities and contact a professionally qualified trainer to help in the rehabilitation process. It is also very dangerous to leave a pet who suffers from thunder, storms or fireworks to be left on their own as animals have been known to have heart attacks and drop dead from the fear, become injured etc. La...st night all night my RSPCA Volunteers Branch phone was going off with stray pets being found or had had bolted from their yards. It is the council's responsibility to take in stray pets not mine or RSPCA Mudgee Volunteers Branch we do not have a facility to cater for them. By the way the person who let of fireworks at 1:45am you have a lot to answer too.
11.01.2022 What a wonderful video.

06.01.2022 Your dog's relationship bank account Bank account- every dog has their own bank account where genetics, health, environment and experiences influence his/he...r existing bank account balance Deposits- positive experiences or associations such as using treats your dog likes to reinforce cues or certain behaviours. It's like your dog's paycheque. The more they're paid for certain behaviours, the more they will do them! These can also include positive interactions and good welfare Withdrawals- any negative experiences or associations that take a lot of deposits to improve your dog's bank balance. This may include monthly frequent trips to the groomer or the infrequent vet visits. If you use positive reinforcement training for your dog (deposits) for handling or grooming to prepare them for these visits, the withdrawals will be less. Interest- interest can be both positive deposits or compound negative withdrawals. If you always carry treats on walks and reward (or praise) your dog for loose leash walking then this increase/reinforce this behaviour- increasing it's interest rate. If your dog is in debt such as they hate their paws being handled, and you forcibly clean their paws after every walk (without preparing them in advance with training), then you are now increasing interest rate on your dog's withdrawals. Small time deposits, like giving your dog a treat every so often when cleaning their paws, will not even out withdrawal interest rates Debt- a one time experience or association that negatively traumatizes your dog. This can be a tan off leash dog charging at them, being roughly mishandled for a nail trim or outside during a storm. These experiences require hefty continual deposits to increase your dog's bank account
06.01.2022 Not all dogs want to go for walk, here are some ideas to help them enjoy their day.

03.01.2022 Happy New Year to you all. Last year was a year none of us will forget and now another part of lifes tapestry which will be talked about forever.
