08.01.2022 Some great, simple tips for dressing your baby in this winter weather.

08.01.2022 To help stop the spread of COVID-19 in Adelaide we are currently asking almost all patients to have telehealth appointments. However, if we ask you to come to our rooms for a face-to-face examination, we are asking all adults and teenagers above the age of 12 to wear a face mask. Visitor limits also apply. Thanks to all our families for your cooperation and help to keep all our families, clinicians and staff safe. ... Please contact us on 8332 3778 or [email protected] if you have urgent questions or concerns about your appointment.

08.01.2022 No matter your child’s age, preparing them for a COVID-19 test will help make the experience a little easier for them. . Here are a few tips on how to prepare ...your child: Paint a picture for them: describe in age appropriate detail what they can expect before you head out. This should include where they will go, who will be there, what they will see and how long it will take. Let them know that friendly staff will be wearing masks, caps, gowns and gloves to protect themselves and others from getting sick. Keep them distracted during the wait with their favourite toy, books, music, or a movie/TV show on your phone or tablet. Explain that they’ll put a little stick with a soft end in their nose and mouth, and that it won’t hurt but might feel funny. Plan a fun ‘reward’ that they will get at home after the test (your child will need to self-isolate until they’ve received a negative test result and their symptoms have resolved). . If your child doesn’t like being touched or gets scared in clinical settings, please let the staff know and they’ll work out a way to keep your child feel calm and comforted. See more

05.01.2022 ***COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) & Our Practice*** If you or any member of your family *have been overseas or interstate in the past 14 days OR *have had close or casual contact in the past 14 days with a confirmed case of COVID-19 OR... *have any cold and/or flu-like symptoms, or loss of taste or smell you should not attend our clinics. Please phone us on 8332 3778 and our reception staff can arrange a telehealth appointment. We are organising telehealth consultations for most patients, to replace or supplement existing in-person appointments at our clinics. This helps us to protect our families, clinicians and staff, as well as slow the transmission of COVID-19 in the wider community. During your telehealth appointment, you and your clinician will discuss any need and/or desire for a follow-up in person attendance at our rooms. For more information, please visit: www.pab.healthcare/covid19-our-practice We thank you for your understanding and ask for your patience as we roll-out telehealth and preventative measures across our practice.

02.01.2022 A/Professor Ross Haslam has recently retired from his private practice. Paediatrics at Burnside is honoured to have had him practicing with us for over seven years. We have benefited hugely from his support, wisdom, clinical excellence, gentleness and leadership over that time. He contributed and lead in building a strongly collegial culture amongst our clinicians and was an early and enthusiastic supporter of our neonatal roster and our commitment to ensure that all newborns... in Burnside, especially, and also Calvary Hospitals had ready and high quality specialist cover in their first days. We know many of his patients and families have fond memories of his calm and thorough care and guidance. He primarily saw young babies and toddlers. He was the Head of the Neonatal Medicine Department at first at the Queen Victoria Hospital and then the Women’s and Children’s Hospital from 1979 2011. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in both the disciplines of Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Adelaide’s Faculty of Health Sciences. He retired from active clinical care at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in May 2014. After caring for critically ill and premature newborns for many years and following their progress as they grew older, he then established a part time private practice to care for babies and toddlers at Paediatrics at Burnside. His special interest and expertise was for the newly born and their subsequent nutrition, growth and development as well as general problems during the first years of life. He is an author of over 150 scientific papers, book chapters and invited lectures related to the care of newborns. In 2012 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his work in the field of Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine. We wish him a happy and relaxing retirement with his wife, children and grandchildren. https://www.paediatricsatburnside.com.au/associate-professo
