21.01.2022 We've been craftily creating lovely items to sell for fundraising @ PAEL made by our volunteers 1. Sturdy 100% linen bags in neutral soft grey: large carry bags, and smaller drawstring design, ideal for transferring items from one handbag to the other. Hand painted - designs by Julie Niekamp from $8 $25 2. One off original hand painted cushion of bunny rabbit by Julie Niekamp 100% cotton in neutral soft grey. $40 now but may go to auction shortly. 3. Lavender heat bags - two sizes - regular and mini perfect for fitting into kids hands or other tiny body parts. $5-10 4. Time 10am-2pm (breaks included) presented by Julie Ackland who has a great deal of knowledge about iPads but manages to make it completely accessible and interesting for beginners. 18.01.2022 We are sending out letters to supporters of PAEL asking if they can help our organisation and/or students by making a donation. If you haven't received a letter, please read on, as your donation could make the difference to enable disadvantaged adult learners achieve their dreams of reading and writing and being numerate. A donation would allow PAEL to: supply a class materials pack ($25); offer a waiver of fees for tuition and admin fees ($40-$250); ongoing training, support... and mentoring for 1-1 volunteers and staff ($120-$350); contribute to ongoing provision of services to the local community ($500+) Your kind donation will be acknowledged by receipt and your name included on our promotional material (unless you wish your details to remain private and confidential). At this stage, donations can only be made by cheque - we are investigating requirements for online donations directly or via GiveNow.com.au and will post info shortly.

We have Introduction to iPad classes starting this Wednesday 29th October. The class covers setting up ipad, and using various features, eg email, internet, camera/photos, contacts, reminders/notes, and exploring apps generally, ... 09.01.2022 Art Classes for Adults Feeling hungry to try something new? If the fabulously delicious new art premises 'The Studio'' at 200 Marine Pde in Hastings 3915 VIC don't get your creative juices going, I'm not sure what will. Join award winning artist, Julie Niekamp, as she takes you through Artways, a folio prep class that covers everything from drawing (pencil, charcoal, pastel), painting (acrylic, oils, watercolour, gouch, ink), mixed media (fabric, collage, found objects, organ...ic material), and maybe even simple ceramics or metal work if demand arises. You get to create in an artists' studio, with other artist Lisa blowing glass into beautiful works and more ... This course runs for 30 weeks starting on Thursday 21 April and ending in December, one day per week 9:30am-3pm. 08.01.2022 Just in case you've tried to visit our physical address, a reminder we have moved to 16 Henry Wilson Drive West Rosebud a couple of months ago. We are co-located with Advance Community College and are just down the road from Chisholm TAFE. We still offer migrant English, literacy and numeracy classes at a foundation level. If you know anyone who needs help with speaking, reading and writing please pass our contact details on or give us a call on 03 5986 8177 10am-4pm Mon-Thurs. A couple of places left in Artways - the current participants are thoroughly enjoying themselves drawing, creating, and now moving into using colour- acrylics, water colours, oils. Treat yourself to a day of 'you time' each week: great for a sense of wellbeing on emotional, mental and physical level ... No experience required!

08.01.2022 PENINSULA LITERACY INITIATIVE Want to help your local community? Like to volunteer a bit of time each week? Become a 1-1 literacy tutor. Find out how ... Coming up on Wednesday 2nd September at 11am we have an information session for local people wanting to make a difference. Come along for morning tea and hear about helping adults on a one-to-one basis to develop their reading and writing skills to enable them to join community activities, gain confidence, even get a job, or go on to further studies. We'll give you training and ongoing support, provide you with ideas for creating practical resources and help you every step of the way. 06.01.2022 Artways: ready for another year of creativity and joy? feel like you'd like a break from the daily routine now the kids are off to school or a having a sea change moment? this fabulously comprehensive art class runs from April 16 until 3rd December 1 day - Thursday - per week (excluding School holidays) from 9.30am - 3pm. Covers drawing with pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink, painting in oils gouche, acrylics, watercolour, mixed media - collage, found objects, textiles. Award winning artist Julie Niekamp will help you prepare a folio of work to gain entry into further art studies. She will cover theory and practice each week, and gently guide you in your exploration of technique and genre.
