25.01.2022 We really enjoy hearing how our books are being used in the classroom. We were recently contacted by Bronwen Hickman, who runs a volunteer English conversation program, about using one of our books Dance Class (Series 6). She wanted to do a shared dialogue exercise and adapted our text into a four-person dialogue for use in her class. Bronwyn reported that it resulted in some laughter and good discussion afterwards. A link to the dialogue exercise can be found here and on our website. https://pageturners.prace.vic.edu.au//The-Dancing-Class.pdf

20.01.2022 More than 120 years ago, camel drivers from Afghanistan and other countries came to the unknown shores of Australia, leaving behind their homes and families. The Pageturner book, 'The Camel Man', shows what life might have been like for these early immigrants. This is an interesting introduction to the class themes of migration and Australian history. Read 'The Camel Man' along with this facinating SBS story: 'I'm proud to be an Indigenous Muslim woman descended from the cameleers'. https://www.sbs.com.au//im-proud-be-indigenous-muslim-woma

08.01.2022 Our PageTurners app project is now almost complete! Last week PRACE staff attended the final review of this digital app, a project developed in collaboration with La Trobe University’s computer science students and faculty. Over the past year, 25 computer science students have worked together in small groups to satisfy the project brief of bringing our adult literacy publication into the digital world.... The completion of this capstone project has resulted in the creation of five very different and impressive products and we congratulate all participating students in achieving this monumental accomplishment. Stay tuned for more information on the winning team and app!

06.01.2022 We are very happy to announce that mailouts of orders has resumed!

06.01.2022 Pre-Lit EAL / Literacy people ...a timely, raft of new materials by Claire Harris called ‘Phonics for Adults’ videos. Very useful in this period of the health ...emergency. Claire says she is trying to give learners an experience similar to a ‘volunteer sitting next to you at home.’ The videos provide an explanation of basic sound-symbol correspondence, with slow step-by-step practice, but without any frogs on logs One of my favourite go-to author/practitioners ...and always so generous to those teaching and learning in our field

05.01.2022 Read Jenny Field's review of Pageturners in TESOLANZ (page 20). Jenny teaches at Waikato Institute of Technology. https://www.tesolanz.org.nz//TESOLANZ_Newsletter_Vol35-2_2

04.01.2022 'Marry Me' is a Pageturner love story ......Dave was in love. He wanted to propose to Jane. But every time he tried, something happened to stop him. This fun story now has an extra worksheet on our website https://pageturners.prace.vic.edu.au/free-worksheets/

04.01.2022 During this very difficult time Pageturner ebooks will be FREE through iBooks. We hope this helps teachers and learners, who may be learning remotely, in some small way. Stay safe everyone!
