22.01.2022 Persistent back pain is rarely something dangerous and it is rarely associated with serious tissue damage (like a ‘herniated’ disc; or ‘degenerative disc disease’). It’s important to keep moving and seek guidance if you can’t manage independently. Seek active management strategies that empower you to take control rather than those that facilitate a reliance on passive treatments. #painawarenessmonth #persistentpain #lowbackpain #selfmanagement

13.01.2022 Ongoing pain does not mean there is new damage. Hurt does not always equal harm. Often it is that the pain alarm system has become overactive Like that smoke alarm going off at the faintest hint of burnt toast This means it is safe to move, even though it may not feel comfortable. The pain care approach helps you to understand what your activity baselines/tolerances are and how you can gradually build these up to achieve your goals. This is all part of turning that pain alarm down. #chronicpain #backpain #painmanagement #pain

It’s important to have a pain care plan, just like any emergency plan, it helps you to remember what to do and makes you feel more in control. Some examples: -explore what may have led to the pain by asking yourself some questions. Have I had this before? What did I do then? Have I been sleeping well? Have I been more stressed? Have I done anything out of the usual or increased my activity?... -Gentle movements: walk, stretches, hydrotherapy -Relaxation: breathing exercises, meditation, listen to music -Heat or ice, topical creams -Pace activities -Sleep routine and healthy eating -If things are not improving after a few days, seek advice from a healthcare professional Have a go at writing down your pain care plan. #PainAwarenessMonth #paincare #painmanagement #chronic pain
