24.01.2022 Root Canal Treatment (RCT) Warnings Signs and Treatment explained What is RCT? Root canal treatment, also known as (RCT) is a treatment designed to eliminate bacteria from an infected or decayed tooth, by removing the soft centre (called dental pulp) to prevent re-infection. ... Warning Signs A tooth may have become damaged or infected by wear and tear, decay, cracked fillings, gum disease an injury to the tooth. If your pulp is damaged, bacteria can multiply rapidly inside the tooth. It is important to save your natural tooth, as replacing it can involve complex procedures and costs. Possible warnings signs include: - Toothache when chewing - Swollen gums - Swelling of the face - Darkening of tooth Process explained 1. First, our dentist will numb your tooth so you feel NO PAIN during treatment. 2. An opening is made through the crown (top) of the tooth and into the pulp chamber. 3. Chemical fluids and files are then applied through the canals to kill any bacteria and the dental pulp is removed. The canals are cleaned further and shaped, and we might irrigate the canal space to wash away any remaining pulp. 4. Once the canal space is cleaned and dried, the opening of the tooth will be sealed with a temporary filling. A few weeks later, your dentist will finish your treatment by placing a permanent filling or crown. 18.01.2022 BLOG OF THE WEEK: Gingivectomy & Gum contouring What is gum contouring? Gum contouring, also known as gingivectomy is a cosmetic procedure that involves gently reshaping and removing excess gum tissue around your teeth using a laser. It is usually done on the front teeth and is entirely painless.... What is the process? First, our dentists will draft a mock design of your new gum line. When you are happy with the tailor-made design, a procedure will be scheduled. Local anaesthesia will be administered to the gums in order to numb them. Next, one of our dentists will focus the laser on areas of excess gum tissue. The procedure takes around twenty to thirty minutes, and the recovery is immediate. Who is it for? Too much gum: a ‘gummy smile’ may be caused by a naturally high lip line that exposes the entire teeth and gums. Excessive gum tissue may also be a result of poor oral health, infection or medications. Too little gum: receding gums can be caused by genetics, periodontal disease or brushing too hard. This is more of an issue than too much gum, as the smaller gum line makes the root of a tooth vulnerable to sensitivity or decay. 12.01.2022 Top 4 Benefits of Invisalign 1. Invisible: The popularity of Invisalign stems from the fact that they are virtually invisible on patients’ teeth. Invisalign are constructed out of a transparent plastic material, in comparison to traditional metal braces which are visible and unsightly. It is a great option for adults as they can smile confidently without worrying about any stigmas regarding orthodontics. 2. Convenient: A major advantage of Invisalign is that the aligners c...an be removed. You can take them out when you eat or brush your teeth, meaning you don’t have to worry about food getting stuck in between your teeth or having to brush them as often. This is because the requirement is that the aligners are worn for 22 hours of the day to be effective. 3. Comfortable: Invisalign are made of flexible, smooth plastic that are designed to fit your teeth closely, making them more comfortable than hard, metal brackets or wires under the traditional braces. You also won’t experience the deep, dull pain that sometimes occurs after brace-wires are tightened. 4. Duration: With invisalign, it usually takes one year to one year and a half to get the straight smile. With traditional orthodontic treatments, it can take a long time (up to five years). Of course, Invisalign may not be able to be used in all cases, so ask your dentist whether the treatment is suitable for you.
