11.01.2022 Here is a commission from a few weeks ago, Tucker the Budgie! I thought sharing his photo vs drawing was a good example to show that being a photorealistic pet portrait artist doesn't always mean you have to copy a photo exactly. As an artist you use something we call creative license, you can see the Reference Photo is dark and blurry, while I was drawing him I made the decision to sharpen up the details and lighten him up (obviously not going overboard and still making sure... that he still looks like Tucker). Most photos aren't perfect so as an artist we can improve on the photos, tweaking bits to make it look better, changing slight angles to make things look more in proportion. When you buy a piece of artwork or order a commission, you are paying for the hours of practice, the failed pieces, the years the artist has spent at the easel to be where they are now. I love using reference photos to draw from, but that doesn't mean we still can't be creative and add a bit of ourselves into every single piece of artwork! 06.01.2022 Mister Tucker's portrait is finished and is now at his new home I have discovered that as much as I love the colour yellow drawing a purely yellow bird is much harder then expected!
