25.01.2022 Ann Rice's exhibition opening event last Sunday was such a delight. Over 70 shiny happy people gathered to support Ann and SFA. We practiced our new 'pandemic f...riendly' social distancing and hygiene, including holding speeches outside in the garden. Thanks to Murray Johnson for providing the opening talk and to everyone that made the effort to join us in celebrating regional creative talent. Ann's exhibition is open daily 9am-4pm at The Painted Tree Gallery until mid August

18.01.2022 Thanks to the generosity of patrons that supported our first refugee dinner on Saturday night, we raised $300. We'll share this between the Refugee Council of A...ustralia and the Cisarua Learning Centre in Indonesia. We had a live link with the current manager of the Cisarua Learning Centre, one of the founders of the refugee school and the film maker of The Staging Post. It was great to make personal connections. We hope to establish an ongoing relationship between Southern Forests Arts and Cisarua Learning Centre over future years.
16.01.2022 The Painted Tree Gallery is scheduled to re-open on June 15th.

06.01.2022 As a member of the National Public Galleries Alliance, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Australian Public Galleries Snapshot. The Snapshot is the mo...st detailed overview of the sector to date, collating data from 197 of Australia’s estimated 408 small-to-medium public galleries. Australia’s small-to-medium public galleries present around 3,000 exhibitions, employ more than 900 FTE staff and attract more than 7.4 million visitors annually 44% of which is in regional areas. National Gallery of Australia, Canberra Director, Nick Mitzevich said, This Snapshot demonstrates the potency and the extraordinary impact public galleries make into the cultural and economic fabric throughout Australia. The significance of our gallery sector in enlivening regional, state and national centres is reinforced by this report. Australia’s extensive network of public galleries is pivotal to community enrichment by engaging audiences with art and ideas and diverse cultural practices. Through their exhibitions, and public and education programs, public galleries inspire participation in conversations about the world in which we live. They promote learning, foster critical thinking and encourage creative expression in ways that benefit local economies, change lives and impact positively on community health and wellbeing. 06.01.2022 If you can't make an exhibition opening - make it to an artist's talk. You have just two days to catch The Alternative Archive - Nectere exhibition at the Shire... of Manjimup Libraries & Art Gallery before it closes at 12 noon on Saturday 29th June. If you'd like to meet some of the show's thirty nine artists you can enjoy three artists talks between 10 - 11.30am (featuring Anne Sepkus, Lizzie Troup and Warwick Backhouse). Following this, many of the exhibition's other artists will be connecting with the Co-curators of The Alternative Archive survey exhibition* - Anna Louise Richardson and Chris Malcom - for a shared lunch between 12 and 1pm. So...between 11.30 and noon - if you're in the gallery, you have a great chance of meeting some of the incredibly talented artists that call the Shire of Manjimup home. _______ Video footage was from the opening of Nectere earlier this month. Many of the participating artists are shown standing next to their works. The Nectere exhibition explored the connections artists have to the place in which they live. ('Nectere' is lation for 'to bind') ________ A small selection of works from Nectere will travel to the Painted Tree Gallery (Northcliffe) from the 6th - 29th July. *The Alternative Archive survey exhibition will be held at John Curtin Gallery in May 2020.
