23.01.2022 Leah creates the world of art and colour for participants. Proud wearers of art!

22.01.2022 Painting Unleashed in the Park at Sydney Olympic Park was a beautiful day in the sun! 50 kids donned plastic ponchos and gloves and splashed out with bold, wild and free drip-painting in the park. The theme was "crisp, icy, winter look" using pink, grey, blue, ice, white, green and mauve drippings of colour onto large canvas sheets on the ground. The five paintings all beautiful and different in their own abstract way - the outcomes are so individual depending on the particip...ants. The kids enjoyed it getting messy with colour in the bright sunlight. They got to experiment with colourful swirls, lines and blobs and splatters to build up a rhythmic symphony of marks on the canvas - one painting saturated with pools of marbling colour. Parents also got involved and Linda in particular was such a thoughtful and passionate contribution to the event. Thanks again Linda (Star Child). One of my favourite moments besides watching the kids in action, was pouring the colours into buckets as I was setting up that morning. See more

19.01.2022 This beautiful colourful drip painting was produced by kids and adults at the Twilight Fun Fair Team picnic on Sat 10 November 2012 at Centennial Park. Thanks to John Deely and his company who provided materials. John and Andrea and loved the painting so much John stretched the canvas and they've had it hanging in their home. Yesterday I was honoured to hang it in John and Andrea Deely's fabulous new apartment and it looks stunning!

18.01.2022 The completed paintings are striking, lively and rhythmic - like a symphony of colour and line. Kids said they "loved Drip Painting, like splashing paint, swirling, and they think it looks cool when finished." They thought Painting Unleashed in the Park was "outstanding", "crazy!" How did they feel while Drip Painting? "Relaxed, lazy, easy, having fun, 'in' the painting, camouflaging myself, making a new world"... About teamwork they learnt about "cooperation, that it makes things easy and it looks pretty good, and its easier than working by myself"

17.01.2022 I had the chance to visit Blue Poles at the National Gallery in Canberra again before running this series of Painting Unleashed in the Park for OOSHC centres. What struck me sitting in front of the huge canvas is its uncontained aliveness, movement, energy and rhythm. Each line and drip makes up a visual symphony of colour and a truly unleashed sense of freedom. This is what I wanted the kids to experience with Painting Unleashed in the Park these holidays. The comments they made show that they got it! Here's some of their work.

09.01.2022 SPARK Festival 2015 for people with intellectual disability - Rhythm Art Project: We got our hearts and hands into the rhythm of love in this years Art Project making zany headwear and handwear for the performance, using a variety of materials and techniques to express ourselves creatively. We created a visual symphony of rhythm with wild drip- painting and spray painting for our beautiful heart and hands backdrop for the stage.... We filled our Big Heart sculpture with love and rhythm. Participants were invited to write a love message on rainbow coloured paper and then toss it into the Big Heart. The Big Heart containing all the special heartfelt messages was placed on the stage in glowing illumination. And we partied, United in Rhythm!

06.01.2022 Here's some examples of the symbols they each created to put onto the group canvases as part of creating their drip paintings:

06.01.2022 The latest Painting Unleashed in the Park for kids was a dream - couldn't have been better. The kids loved it! Perfect weather. Fantastic results. I was so pleased. Each of the 8 painting were so unique and beautiful. The OOSC is going to hang them in their space. When they all thanked me at the end, I had shivers down my spine and felt the love in my heart. It was real!

05.01.2022 Jackson Pollock "dripped paint on large canvases in generous, gestural patterns of overlaid line." This is Action Painting. "If the individual reveals his nature and understanding in all his actions, his deepest qualities may be expressed when control is removed and the painter engages in free activity unrestricted by idea or technique. Pollock's drip paintings are part of this desire to allow free communication to the spirit." From the book Modern Art, by Trewin Copplestone

05.01.2022 I asked the kids from each centre "How did you feel when you were painting?" Here's some of their answers: joyful, in the painting, expressive, free! And "What did you learn about teamwork?" You get lots more ideas from the whole group You can get a lot more done in the time with a team Its fun... Sharing, cooperating, contributing, need other people, working together "What did you like about it?" It was fun! "Who liked it?" A show of hands - all One boy came and shook my hand! See more

02.01.2022 This week the kids at Abbotsford Community Centre OOSH had the Painting Unleashed in the Park experience. Using the theme of their centre as a community, that families love, that is a welcoming and unique, that has space and flexibility, that focuses on the artistic and communication, and what they enjoy at their centre - the group came up with visual symbols to express these ideas.
