13.01.2022 Why are small businesses an easy target for cyber attacks? Many small business owners have the same misconception that they aren’t a target and don't have anything cyber attackers want, which makes them a much easier target in comparison to the larger corporations that protect themselves with strong internet security systems. So what information are the hackers gaining from small businesses? You may not even realise it, but small businesses have loads of information that cy...ber criminals seek - credit card details, contact information and other personal information of both the small business staff members and customers. Since it is much easier to target small businesses than the larger enterprises, cyber attackers simply hunt down multiple small businesses instead and end up with the same bulk of information that they would have with one large enterprise. 13.01.2022 Facebook has shared an update after a security attack saw the company log out nearly 90 million accounts as a security measure last month. Firstly, the kind-of ...good news: the attack wasn't actually as bad as we first feared, with the company's VP of Product Management writing, "fewer people were impacted than we originally thought." The less great news is that 30 million people still had their access tokens stolen, with 15 million people having their name and contact details accessed (including phone numbers and emails if they were listed on the profiles) while another 14 million people had these details accessed as well as several others, including username, gender, hometown, birthdate and their 15 most recent searches (to name just a few). The attackers didn't access any information from the remaining 1 million people. Luckily, the company has also detailed how users can check whether they were affected in the attack or not, and all you have to do is visit the site's Help Center. 12.01.2022 Forrester’s 2016 data security report - 41% of data breaches in 2016 were due to internal incidents, making it the top cause of successful cyber-attacks in 2016, rising from 39% in 2015. The majority of internal incidents (65%) are mostly inadvertent in nature, stemming from staff unintentionally installing malware or providing access credentials. And even for the third (35%) of these events that are attributed to malicious insiders who intentionally steal or leak data, it’s more likely that these incidents are more inadvertent in nature with staff who are targeted for data or access to data once they have already been compromised. Your employees are your first line of defense !
