25.01.2022 My sincere greetings for the Christmas holiday season, in recognition of those amongst us who are pulling more than a fair share of our burden as the year has s...tretched us to unprecedented limits. We live in times where we have to live the change we want to see lest we inadvertantly promote advocacy of ideas that leaves out the remaining 7.? billion behind. In the traditions of the season, I resolve to the mantra, #ClimateActionBeginsWithMe * Walk with me in 2020! Sumathy * My colleagues from Covidien might remember a charter the corporate used to develop an organisational culture of quality viz., Quality begins with me, a charter so perfect in communicating the essence of what it was about, it stood the subsequent acquisition of Covidien by Medtronic. I hope you’ll forgive me if use of the concept of individual accountability as a the first step for accomplishing broader changes in some way infringed the copy rights.

25.01.2022 1995 March, September and November After a brief attempt to expand the team in Sydney, Pallavi was formalised forging an operational collaboration with CMC Melbourne. The notion of starting both the organisations with the same name was toyed with and overruled to facilitate functional independence. CMC-Mohan’s quip rings fresh as I write this: .(seems like a divorce prior to the marriage)! But far from it, Mohan,... Sreedhar, Ramesh, Vasu, Pallavi is indebted to your friendship; if nothing else, we know we all have homes in Melbourne and now Brisbane. Either the thirst was so deep or we were all totally drunk, the inaugural year of Pallavi saw three concerts. It was the first overseas tour for Jayashri, Vittal Ramamurthy and Palanikumar and it was our first concert under the Pallavi banner- we were all excited like teeny-boppers. The social pre-concert dinner at Ramnath’s set a pretext to a Vittal-solo. We’ll be so engrossed in our sharing thoughts and experiences that we will find ourselves stretched on the stairs some two hours after calling it a day in the lounge. I don’t know about you Jayashri, your theliyaleru rama the following evening has stayed with me todate! The concert of course was outstanding, both Jayasri and Vittal making their guru proud in the framework of Palanikumar’s (soft touch) on the mrudangam the intricate nuances of which incidentally, Lakshmi Nateshkumar, a connoisseur explained to us later. Sanjay, Sreeramkumar, Arun Prakash and Arthi were not only superior musicians but super fun to be with. Sharada Mami relishes the memory of Sreeramkumar’s clay pillayar todate, while Dr Ramanathan fondly recollects lending Sanjay his cherished collection of from decades ago. The concert was just joyous- an attribute of all concerts of Sanjay that draws me to his music. I am not sure if it was his Pallinchu Kamakshi, Nattakurinji or the thodi rendition of ,(thanigai valar) a veteran musician Param Thillairaja came up to Ramnath and said, !(he has rendered those who has been here before null) Lalgudi Jayaraman, Krishnan, Vijayalakshmi and Karaikudi Mani’s concert has the singular distinction of selling out with in a day and half of opening the books. Wallace Theatre was overflowing with chairs and sheets in every practicable space to accomodate the diehards who wouldn’t take no for an answer. That evening the stage was on fire twice. The first one was a spot fire of the drape from a over heated downlight and it was put out immediately. The second one raged for over three hours as the fingers of the legends played their violins and mrudangam, strangely though, instead of burning, it drenched us with music, pristine in every phrase. It was a dream come true for us. My friends, Pallavi had sprouted.

16.01.2022 October 2019 marks the silver jubilee of Pallavi. I thought I will take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all those who have enriched us with their music, love for music and friendship by reflecting on the past twenty five years, a year a post; its those friendships that have formed the bedrock of an organisation with an ambition that has consistently been larger than its coffers. 1994 October: ... Sudha, Sivaraman and Ravichandra adorned the first stage on our behalf. Full length Carnatic concerts in Sydney by professional artistes were far and few in early nineties. Ramesh always dreamt of forming a sabha; Ramnath's move to our neighbourhood and the successful tour of MSG (either the same year or the previous year) co-ordinated by Mohan aligned the right stars and they decided to run a pilot by requestig Sudha who was touring Melbourne/NZ with Sivaraman and Ravichandra to perform in Sydney. Our Pallavi journey started with Laksmi's pre-concert dinner party- which eventually became the norm. Sudha wore a slate silk with understated silver and gold bars sprinkled along the border for the party(yes, I confess, I love her sarees, as much as I love her songs) The pilot was a huge success! The Wallace theatre in Sydney Uni boasted ~420 of our friends to Sudha's " !". I think she opened the concert with Mohanam; I recollect little Kartik falling asleep in my lap as she weaved her elaborate karaharapriya-main. Either that night or one of the following nights when Ramesh gave me a hand as I washed up after dinner, he said we should name the sabha Pallavi; ", " .

15.01.2022 Commencing our 25th anniversary celebrations with a brilliant musical drama on Saint Thyagaraja.

15.01.2022 Friends, It was our great pleasure to have hosted the program this evening to mark Pallavi’s twenty fifth year. Looking back I realise not much has changed. First and foremost, Pallavi grew out of our desire to listen to full-fledged concerts by our favourite musicians. Even the best equipment can hardly be a sufficient substitute for the experience of the ambiance of a live performance. After sixty-odd concerts by Pallavi and many more by other organisations, that desire ...is just as fresh as it was back in 1995. There is no such thing as too many live-performances. After the initial years, Pallavi took root on the goodwill and encouragement of our patrons and friends; most shared our interest in classical music and dance and for others the fact they were supporting our interest was sufficient. That hasn’t changed one bit. Over the years we have been blessed with your support, no matter whom we put on the stage, whether a living legend like Sri TN Krishnan, an unassuming classical exponent such as Rama Ravi or one of the current generation of talents. The brimming house today was testimony to your enduring support. It would be amiss if I do not recognise our friends from Melbourne, Ravi Ravichandra, CMC’s Sridhar Chari, Mohan Krishnamurthy, and Sankaran Ramesh and Cheenu Srinivasan who used to host concerts in Adelaide at that time. This collaboration with like-minded friends continues to this date. Finally and most importantly, the artists we featured in our first year thrilled our audience with outstanding performances on-stage and enduring friendships off-stage. And that hasn’t changed at all, for I can’t think of a concert that didn’t delight us nor any artist who didn’t touch us with their warmth and passion. For example one of the visiting artists of this evening balances his love for theatre with a demanding day job at a tech firm. I was amused when he told me how he got into trouble with his young wife for taking three weeks of leave to come to Australia to perform for us, as she gently reminded him he took just one week’s vacation for their wedding. It’s their generosity of heart, vidvath, and passion that endures Pallavi. In a world bent on change, to me, Pallavi stays unchanged committed to bringing the unchangeable classical art form of Carnatic music, dance, and theatre in its pristine form. I speak for Mohan, Ramnath and myself and our beloved families when I say Pallavi has enriched us. I hope we have made a difference in a small way to the classical music scene in Sydney. Ramesh
