25.01.2022 Last term in Humanities two Year 7 classes combined to showcase a museum of what we learnt in the Term 4 Humanities unit. We all worked together to each create an Artefact, poster or PowerPoint. These were used to complement our speeches on our Ancient Egypt topics. We had special guest visitors including Mrs Wise, Mrs Cardinal, Mrs Langton, Mr Apanui and Mr Fitter. Overall, everyone tried their best and had a great time. Best of all we learnt a lot about Ancient Egypt! Written by Minka and Azenna, Year 7

They were amazing Mr Jamal Fogerty, PBC alumni and Titans player helped present our Sporting Awards with Ms Naomi Apanui. Mr Anthony Mitchell and Mr Selwyn Apanui from The Clontarf Foundation also helped present academic, Arts and attendance awards to the many indigenous recipients. 22.01.2022 This year saw the Year 11 and 12 Drama Excellence class take on its biggest challenge yet! Under the creative direction of Drama Excellence Teacher, Cameron Sarasola, students plumbed the depths of 'good' and 'evil', the binary oppositions of 'fascism' and 'freedom' and challenged audiences to peel back the layers of their own complacency in PBC's production of 'Dark Road', written by American playwright, Laura Lundgren Smith. Using minimal set pieces, custom made and sourced... costuming and making the most of recently updated lighting and command consoles, students dazzled audiences with their authentic and deeply moving portrayal of sisters caught between two ideologies. Mr Sarasola and his students would like to express their gratitude to the teachers, students and PBC faculty who supported their production by attending our internal productions, and to the broader community for their continued engagement with our excellence program and school productions.

22.01.2022 PBC's Sports Excellence Program is giving students much more than the skills to perform on the playing field. Earlier this term Prue Davies ( Ex-PBC student, B. Ex Sci, international level SLSC competitor and current world record holder 200m Super Life Saver) delivered her One Percent Workshop to all of PBC’s Sports Excellence girls. Prue’s knowledge across women’s performance, health and wellness is invaluable for our students. A motivating mentor with experience that goes beyond her sporting achievements at the highest level, Prue led our girls through an interactive workshop to enhance their performance, knowledge and awareness. #pbcreds #pbcsportexcellence #spx #studentwellbeing

19.01.2022 The 2020, Australian Business Week was once again a resounding success at PBC. To kick off the week, the Year 9 Academic Excellence students were removed from their classes, thrown into teams with many students they had never met and asked to create an original electronic device that would appeal to consumers. They then had to market the product; creating logos, slogans, trade displays and video commercials. Then, if that wasn’t enough, they had to make business decisions in ...a share market simulation and even present a report to prospective shareholders. This unique experience allowed students, with the support of nine remarkable teacher mentors, to not only learn about business, finance and how to run a company but also the importance of working as a team and meeting deadlines. Each challenge was tackled by our students with impressive fortitude and despite being the second last week of school and in the midst of a heat wave, they were outstanding. They displayed extraordinary levels of creativity, resilience and dedication, highlighting the talent of this group of students. The PBC Academic Excellence Department would like to thank the Greater Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce and McDonald's for their incredible support in making this a truly memorable week and would also like to congratulate Shane Robinson and the members of the Red Team for their epic victory. The Greater Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce featured the competition in their latest newsletter! https://www.gsgc.org.au/blog/pbc-abw-program/

08.01.2022 On 17 November ACCIONA and Surfing Australia held their ACCIONA ‘Engineering Confidence’ Women and Girls Workshop Breakfast at PBC. The event was designed to not only build confidence in young women, but kickstart thoughts and discussions about real career opportunities in the construction engineering industry via STEM. There were plenty of questions and enthusiastic discussion after the room heard from the breakfast's four-person panel including World Tour Surfer and ACCIONA... Ambassador Isabella Nichols, Surfing Australia Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Manager Michell Mitchell, ACCIONA Senior Project Engineer Michelle Monaghan, and PBC's Guidance Officer Steve Jones. Isabella Nichols said: The thing that excites me most about a career in STEM is having so many different opportunities, whether it's civil, mechanical, environmental; there are so many pathways you can take, and even if you start on one pathway you can crossover. After opening up to questions from students, the panel joined the group in a brain-stimulating hands-on spaghetti challenge where students had to build a structure using spaghetti and tape and add a heavy object to the top of it that had all involved fully engaged and racing for a team win. ACCIONA will continue as a major support partner of key Surfing Australia program, the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle, Australia’s biggest grassroots boardriders event series involving over $100,000 prizemoney across eight state events and a large-scale National Final. ACCIONA's involvement in the national final earlier this year saw the event granted carbon neutral status a first for Surfing Australia. Surfing Australia Acciona.Australia Isabella Nichols
