13.01.2022 Tropical Low Notification Here in Tropical North Queensland we occasionally experience tropical cyclones. Today, 2 December 2018, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) published a weather warning of the possibility of a cyclone developing in the Coral Sea. The BOM publishes a Tracking Map indicating the likely development and direction of tropical lows and cyclones. At this stage in the development of a low pressure weather system it is difficult for the BOM to predict things with... any certainty. Some systems do not reach land at all. Some develop into cyclones that can cross the Queensland coast anywhere between Cape York Peninsula in the north to around Rockhampton in the south. The media tends to sensationalise cyclones often beyond their potential threat level. In our 33 years of living at Palm Cove, 3 cyclones have been close enough to cause some damage to foliage in our garden. We have never suffered any structural damage or personal injury. In life we are always making choices based on probabilities. We encourage our guests who are booked in between now and say 12 December to monitor the development of this system. At this stage there is no need to consider changing your travel plans for the Palm Cove and Cairns region. Our house is well prepared for tropical cyclones. It has been built out of concrete and steel and meets the latest cyclone specifications. Also, we are well above any threat from a tidal surge or flooding.
