24.01.2022 SUNSHINE COAST WASTE COLLECTION DELAYIt may take longer for your bins to be emptied this week. Please be assured, we will still collect your waste but there ...may be a delay. General waste bins (red or dark green lids) will be emptied first. Recycle and garden waste bins may not be emptied on your normal scheduled day. WHAT YOU CAN DO Put your bins on the kerbside the night before your normal collection day. Please leave your bins on the kerbside until they’ve been emptied. How the delay may impact you Bins may not be emptied on your normal collection day Bins may be emptied at an earlier or later time than usual Waste, recycling and garden waste bins may not all be emptied on the same day In some areas, collection services will run much later than normal and into the evening. What’s the problem? During routine maintenance, our waste collections contractor identified a safety issue with their trucks, which means that less trucks are available to carry out your normal service. Safety is our priority! We apologise for any inconvenience this causes you. The safety of our contract drivers and other road users is our highest priority, so we will only return to the full service schedule when we are sure the trucks are safe again. 21.01.2022 Firefighters Remembrance Day QFES flags will be flown at half-mast across Queensland today as we remember the firefighters who have died while protecting and s...erving their communities. Today, we stop on the 10th hour on the 10th day of the 10th month to honour and pay tribute to our fallen firefighters, as well as their families, friends and colleagues. We are forever grateful for the sacrifice they made to protect others.

20.01.2022 Update on Palmwoods Bat Colony I have had this matter investigated by Council Officers who have provided me with an overview of actions planned and already tak...en place at Kolora Park. Council has engaged Ecosure for routine monitoring of 10 urban flying-fox roosts. They continue to routinely monitor Kolora Park monthly (monitoring data is available here) and the current numbers are reported as 4590 flying-foxes as of 15 July. Council has been monitoring this site consistently and performing population counts monthly since it became aware flying-foxes inhabited the site in June 2019. A number of actions have been taken at this site, see below: Roosting trees were removed from the Eastern side of the bowls green to establish a greater buffer from flying-foxes Council has maintained communication with the Bowls Club committee to address any concerns directly Council has agreed to assist the Bowls Club if they choose to apply for tree trimming over their carpark and nearby the outdoor eatery Interpretive signage has been placed along the walking track The track continues to be maintained to ensure visitors can walk through the reserve this has been increased to bi-monthly path cleaning Weed management and vegetation management was performed last month to improve access along the path Monthly routine monitoring of the flying-fox population is scheduled and funds committed for the rest of the Financial Year through the Environment Levy As identified, flying-foxes do sometimes shift into the private property adjacent to this site. It is important to note that Council only acts on Council-owned land and issues on private property are the responsibility of the landholder and they should liaise with the State Government Department of Environment and Science for advice on what actions they can take. Like Council, landholders must act according to the State Codes of Practice, and many actions require a State permit. Regarding the potential health hazard, flying-foxes do carry disease including Australian Bat Lyssavirus however all health risks can be managed and avoided by ensuring you do not touch a flying-fox. The only way that Australian Bat Lyssavirus can be transferred to humans is via a scratch or bite and if anyone is scratched or bitten they must report to a doctor for treatment immediately to prevent the disease. If they have any other concerns about health risk the best available advice can be found at QLD Health using this link: Bats and Human Health. QLD Health advises there is no greater disease risk from flying-fox droppings than from any other wild animal, so it is still safe for patrons to walk along the Kolora Park path. Should they come into contact with droppingslike with any other animal’s droppingsgood hygiene practices (washing your hands before touching your face/food etc.) eliminate the risk of any potential disease transmission. OPEN Picnic shelters Boat ramps and pontoons Public car parks will reopen but only for residents within 50km of their home. Council-managed walking trails did not close and remain available to use. REMAINING CLOSED Playgrounds Barbecues Skate parks Exercise equipment Gardners Falls and Buderim Falls swimming holes All other rules including gatherings and limits on visitors remain in place. The Queensland Government has applied three conditions to the eased restrictions: social distancing and hygiene must be maintained you have to stay within 50km of home and outings are limited to members of the same household or an individual and one friend. Surf Life Saving Queenslandis continuing to operate a surveillance model with flags remaining down on beaches which are still only to be used for exercise. Inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water. 05.01.2022 HERE'S WHAT'S CHANGING ON OUR WATERWAYS FROM SATURDAY Dams and recreation areas in Queensland will reopen this weekend as part of a relaxation of social... distancing rules. Fishing, boating and picnics will be permitted at Seqwater and Sunwater dams however barbeque facilities and campgrounds will remain closed. The State Government restricted the use of waterways on March 31 to essential purposes only in light of social distancing measures. President of the Lake Borumba Fishing Stocking Association Don MacAuley said he will be checking on the supply of fish in the system such as the Saratoga, Bass, Yellow Belly and the Silver Perch. I’m expecting it to be in pretty good shape, Mr MacAuley said. It’s holding around 99 percent water at the moment. Since the bans were introduced, he said a bone of contention has been conflicting rules over who is allowed to fish. The saltwater guys have been allowed to go fishing and the freshwater have not been allowed to. We have to abide by and comply with what the Government is telling us regarding this health crisis...but what we can’t understand is why the open spaces such as Lake Borumba were closed. While swimming at Sunwater facilities will reopen, Seqwater is currently conducting testing and will reopen swimming when deemed appropriate.
