25.01.2022 Beautiful morning in the garden

24.01.2022 It's ginger planting time. Fresh ginger brings a touch of authenticity to any Asian stir-fry and makes a cool, soothing cordial on a summer afternoon. Here ar...e our top tips for growing ginger in a pot: Select a pot of minimum 40 litre capacity and fill the container with a free draining medium such as #Searles Platinum Potting Mix. Plant rhizomes about 2cm beneath the surface and water well. Cover the opening of the pot with a clear plastic bag to keep the soil moist and remove the plastic when the new shoots appear above the soil. Water every 3-4 days depending on weather, but don’t overwater as gingers fleshy roots will quickly rot in waterlogged conditions. 24.01.2022 This is Minka's happy place at our local community garden. So many 'fans' to throw the ball for her and so many smells.

22.01.2022 An all age, inclusive gathering to contemplate the divine & be inspired by nature in a safe and gentle setting. All welcome! (including children) Wet weather alternative in church hall opp. pub.

20.01.2022 Gardening is on tomorrow morning from 7 unless it’s pouring down. No major jobs (lets keep those for this months growing together session)I have seedlings. Pasifika needs weeding ready for mulching. Lots of Singapore daisy on our neighbours fence line to be chipped out and thrown in bin.

18.01.2022 We love to share our produce from the Community Garden, however, we do ask that people check with members via FB or email if they want to harvest from the garden. If passersby and nonmembers want to take a sprig of herbs, a handful of beans or something for a meal then that is fine but some beds belong to specific charity groups and some need to be harvested appropriately. Thanks to Sisa some of our cassava crop has been saved but a lot was taken and not replanted thereby damaged. A large bunch of bananas that would have been shared out was also taken recently. It’s all about communication and care.

17.01.2022 Look forward to seeing as many volunteers as possible tomorrow for a few important tasks in preparation for spring planting and the warmer summer weather. This is a FREE community event.

14.01.2022 Thanks Garden and Gardeners. Along with this little harvest we rejuvenated another bed and planted Egg plant, Butternut Pumpkin, Broccoli, Rhubarb,Celery,Rosemary and tomatoes

12.01.2022 Great job on the shed Peter. Thank you. We will all try and keep it tidy

11.01.2022 Saturday morning jobs: We have one bed that has a green compost crop that can be dug in and bed topped up from compost bay nearest the road. I have a couple of water melon seedlings that we can plant on the terraces, the terrace will need some prep. The Tomato plants need stringing. General weeding (as always). If someone wants to chip away at the Singapore daisy on Peter and Moiras side that would be great. Sage to go into perennial herb bed. On the slope heading down to compost bins we have some Basil seedlings that we can use down there to create a low boarder above the compost bins. I thought we could leave 2 big jobs 1) weed, feed and mulch Pasifika 2) stake and plant Dragon fruit for next Sunday Growing together as our numbers are usually better. See you from 7 tomorrow morning PS: I want this Chicken

10.01.2022 Heatwave weather on its way. Can we focus on getting as much shade cloth up as possible tomorrow morning pleas? We have also been donated 3 new fruit trees which is great as we head into the summer months and focus more on our perennials and trees. I have star pickets and poly pipe and tie wire to build an arch/ arbour for the passion fruit seedlings as well.

08.01.2022 Got some posts for the Dragon fruit

07.01.2022 Tony here. I have seedlings for this weekend. At the moment we are looking at some wonderful tank filling, garden watering rain over next few days. If Saturday gets rained out I will keep them at my place for another week. Will pop into the garden today and run an eye over it. We have some sweet potatoes ready and are just lifting them as we need.

07.01.2022 Just been to the garden. The forecast rain still hasn’t arrived but fingers crossed for tomorrow. In keeping with taking care of our precious water resources I hand watered (with watering can) just tje seedlings that were looking a little droopy now the warmer weather has arrived. It’s a bit more time consuming but worth it. The established plants are all fine. Cheers Tony

06.01.2022 Weather permitting

06.01.2022 Forecasts of rain are just teasing us. If I water the garden, something good may come.

04.01.2022 Thanks everyone for all the work in the garden this afternoon. Lots of mulching done amongst other jobs. The garden is looking good going into the hot weather. Lovely time sharing dinner afterwards as well

04.01.2022 So we can use some of the ash we have in the garden and in the compost. However the consensus seems to be to use it sparingly as it will alter the PH levels

04.01.2022 Sometimes the best therapy in the world is to just wander around, sit and ponder, free your mind, relax and appreciate the space we're in. Happy Monday to you all.

03.01.2022 Just grabbed this of FB market place for $50.00. Will give any seedlings a fighting chance this summer and help us raise from seed easier.

01.01.2022 Great turn up this afternoon, thank you everyone for your assistance and friendship. The garden is looking great and lots of produce coming our way. We had some great conversations whilst enjoying dinner around the campfire afterwards. #community
