24.01.2022 Sustainability in the built environment? What a contrast between Gold Coast City Council and Brisbane City Council! On the Gold Coast we cant even get changes ...to the City Plan for decent landscaping and set backs, while BCC is promoting green and sustainable developments to put the city on the world map. Sustainability in the development industry has never been one of its strong points, but perhaps this might change with Brisbane City Council offering 50% rebate on infrastructure charges to developments that meet criteria for sustainability. The first to take up the challenge is a development called Urban Forest that features green walls, roof top gardens, a public park at the bottom of the building, recycled grey water for all the plants and solar panels and Tesla batteries. By contrast the development industry on the Gold Coast is complaining that the few improvements in sustainability proposed in Amendments 2 and 3 to the City Plan would send them broke, even though they would not come into force for at least 18 months. Will the Gold Coast, one of the most beautiful natural areas in the world, end up with an ugly concrete jungle from end to end? https://www.communityalliance.org.au/s/How-Brisbane-could-b

24.01.2022 Theres a good point here. What do you want?

23.01.2022 Finally we are seeing the issues of overdevelopment addressed in Parliament! Thank you Michael Hart MP for helping to give Palm Beach a voice. Please share our page and comment to help spread the word regarding the relentless overdevelopment and destruction happening to our beautiful suburb. There are still many more development applications in front of council right now. Help us to try and save Palm Beach before its finally gone for good.

23.01.2022 Leah Myers has a good point here.

22.01.2022 A sneaky change request by another greedy developer. Put your submission before 8 October.

22.01.2022 The light rail certainly has caused a stir of emotions in the last week or so... but why hasnt the media reported on the fact that gross development relaxations are an excuse for this tram, that not only is years away yet, but the route has not been confirmed? If you dont want more bulky high rises in Palm Beach now is the time to stand by your outraged comments and show support for your neighbours by contributing to this appeal. Remember, if we roll over and let this go through, more high rises that reach well above 29m will be allowed to go through as well. Court costs arent cheap but if we all stand together and donate the equivalent of a cup of coffee, a couple of beers or a meal at Maccas we will be able to make a difference. Dont be complacent. Please click the link, donate and spread the word.

21.01.2022 Look out Palm Beach, another development application has been lodged for Jefferson Lane. An 8 storey high rise to replace one 2 storey house. This narrow lane is overcrowded as it is now, and there is still construction to be completed. How will it cope? GCCC Application No. MCU/2020/293 N.B. Due to its proposed height, this application is code assessable.

21.01.2022 Here is a very interesting article about shadows and what the Council chooses to believe in order to push their agenda of overdevelopment. If the community don't stand up to the GCCC and Developers alike anything close to the beachside will fast become a long dark canyon of tall buildings and our beautiful beaches will also be covered by shadows. Not very inviting is it? Quality of life, no longer. Read the full story here: https://save4221.com.au//development-decision-maki...ng-over/ Don't forget the GCCC have recently approved a 14 story building on the Corner of the GC Highway and 17th Avenue. The accuracy of the shadow report provided by the developer is also questionable. This is just one reason local residents are currently appealing the decision in the Planning and Environment Court. You can support them by donating to their GoFundMe campaign via this link to help raise money for legal fees. For more information gf.me/u/yqvdcs

19.01.2022 The Palmy Whingers are at it again... When your council approves a 14 level highrise because a Consultants Report states that it facilitates small fast moving shadows... across our beach.

19.01.2022 Here it is, officially. The worst kept secret in Palm Beach. Another oversized development for our suburb set for the corner of Mawarra St and Townson Avenue - the site where the current Palm Garden shops sit. Dont forget there is another 9 story / 80 unit development application in council right now at no. 2 Mawarra Street. Two massive developments in the same street.. around the corner from the Magnoli towers and a school. How will our streets cope with the increasd traf...fic? What about all the kids, including the attendees at the pre-school and Palm Beach State School? Waste management? Noise pollution? The list goes on. Have your say. Make your concerns heard by contacting council direct. The application will be submitted tomorrow. Please comment and share our page to help us spread the word.

18.01.2022 Thank you to the Community Alliance - ACE and their hardworking team.

18.01.2022 The events of recent weeks have left no doubt that some in Council are putting the interests of developers ahead of those of the community. The quality of the c...itys built form and streetscapes is compromised by this imbalance and were paying the price with reduced liveability of our suburbs. Hard fought gains with the City Plan Amendments relating to amenity have been eroded and Council is not listening to the many concerned voices across the city. It is unacceptable and we wont stand by passively and allow it to continue. In coming weeks Community Alliance will be hosting an event to give you a voice, discuss the issues, and start community-driven positive change. Watch this space. Stay tuned for more information about the date of the event and the agenda. #ACE See more

17.01.2022 Although it may look nice compared to some of the tragedies that have hit Palm Beach lately, this development application does not adhere to the town plan due to its height and is impact assessable. If you dont agree to the spread of over development please submit your properly made objection ASAP.

16.01.2022 We all know that the potential tram line is being used as an excuse to build more high rises in Palm Beach, but will the tram actually go through? There have been no solid decisions made yet. A group of residents are saying 'enough is enough' and have initiated appeal proceedings against Council in the Planning and Environment Court related to an over-scaled apartment tower approval at the corner of Gold Coast Highway and 17th Avenue. This is an expensive process and the gr...oup is seeking support through crowd funding to help fight this action, not just for their benefit, but also for the long-term benefit of the wider Gold Coast community. Please help by donating, and by sharing this the GoFundMe link far and wide. The funds raised will help to continue court proceedings and ensure that they get a fair trial by having their concerns properly heard. Pass it on. See more

16.01.2022 This building alone is a good reason to help your fellow residents. Stop the 14 story high rise, approved by the GCCC at 17th Ave & GC Hway, by donating to a local resident funded court appeal: http://gf.me/u/yqvdcs This blatant disregard for the Town Plan has to be challenged.

16.01.2022 Another high rise development with ridiculous setbacks. This is Siarn currently being built on the Esplanade at 25th Ave. Does this meet Acceptable Outcomes? We dont think so. How is this able to be approved by our Council? What is the justification for this. The developers have successfully pushed beyond all benchmarks in our City Plan, excluding height. More outrageous development applications are currently in place with the GCCC. Be aware more destruction is coming un...less the community stands up again Council approving these concrete monsters. You can find out whats in place via the GCCCs PD Online and you can sign up to receive emails via Planning Alerts - www.planningalerts.org.au Please react and share to help spread the word. See more

15.01.2022 This will be worth your time.

14.01.2022 Car stackers. Noisey, unreliable and prone to rust from salt air. Proven not to be safe yet are being approved along with the overdevelopment of Palm Beach. This is not what was asked for in the City Plan. When will the GCCC listen to what the residents want?

13.01.2022 24th Ave, Palm Beach - A sinking home with almost $100k in damage and just 45 minutes of sunlight a day. This will be the reality for more and more of us in Palm Beach if we dont continue to challenge our council on their development approvals. Click to read Logans story: http://save4221.com.au//a-sinking-home-just-45-minutes-of/... Is this what you want? Please donate to the community appeal via the website.

12.01.2022 FYI - Be sure to have your say.

11.01.2022 Wondering what is happening at 1273 GC Highway? For those of you following the community funded appeal against the gross overdevelopment Council has approved for the corner of 17th Ave and the GC Highway an update on the progress of this fight has been posted on our website www.save4221.com.au under 'Community News'. This battle is far from over and the appellants still urgently need your financial help to fund the legal costs ensuring their voice is heard. To help make a difference, hold Council accountable and stop further excessive development relaxations, please donate to their GoFundMe campaign by clicking here: gf.me/u/yqvdcs

11.01.2022 Well worth the read...

11.01.2022 ... What’s happening here? Not formally approved yet but the developer has already set up a sales office. Has another dodgy ‘deal’ been done with the Council?? ...It’s justified for the Chairman of the Planning Committee Cr Cameron Caldwell to use Ammendments 2 & 3 to refuse approval for a development in his own suburb, but the overdevelopment of Palm Beach, and this one across the street from Palm Beach Primary School is OK? The GCCC should be ashamed!

11.01.2022 A possible win for Palm Beach... but for how long? Gold Coast residents need to keep an eye out for what comes next to this site, and how dense the new proposed development will be. #peoplepower

09.01.2022 It appears that the Sunshine Coast has the right idea. It's a shame we haven't been able to achieve this on the Gold Coast, yet. Perhaps it's time to make our opinions heard again Gold Coast. #dontbecomplacent #stopthedestruction #staytuned

08.01.2022 This is the site of a 14-story development that has been approved to sit on the corner of 17th Ave and GC Highway. The original application was for a fuel station to be built there but the Council rejected that citing concerns about its impact on the surrounding residential area. Instead the Planning Committee decided a tower in an area that is saturated with units and doesn't meet city plan in many ways including height, density and setbacks to name a few, is a much better idea. Local residents are therefore are taking the Council and the developer to the Planning & Environment Court to appeal this decision. Please support your neighbours by donating to their fundraiser that will help aid Lawyers fees to take this all the way to trail. Click here:gf.me/u/yhhm8p For more information about the appeal visit www.save4221.com.au

06.01.2022 Hmm... we wonder why Mayor Tate doesnt want residents to address these committees anymore?

05.01.2022 Righto Palm Beach Whingers.... Making all this noise about overdevelopment of our community is just so bewildering!! We want to work with you, so please have your say, when an application is IMPACT ASSESSABLE. Oh look, heres the latest high rise approval set for 17th Ave to sit 14 stories high. Yes, we listened. 106 properly made objections from the public pointing out all the valid reasons why this should NOT be approved. Zero supporting submissions. ... Why did this development get approved by the majority of Councillors? Whats in it for them? Why do we now have to take this to the Planning & Environment Court? Please help our cause and donate here: https://gf.me/u/yh7nqq

05.01.2022 Please help your fellow community members by supporting them with funding for their legal fight for justice. Palm Beach residents are standing up for what the Gold Coast City Council is not. Stop the 14 story overdevelopment planned for the corner of 17th Ave and Gold Coast Highway. Why? If this building goes ahead it will set a precedence. More heights will exceed beyond the 9 levels to 14. This one is set to go on a 1600m2 block of land. Again, it's excessive. Not only ...that, they have exceeded the density limits from 1 bedroom / 30m2 to 1 bedroom / 10m2. That's a 300% increase in density. The appellants are not against development, they just want good sustainable buildings that adhere to the City Plan and will suit the area - not the developer. Please donate and share by clinking this link here gf.me/u/yqvdcs . If you need more convincing visit the website or send us an email. : As seen in the Gold Coast Bulletin today.

04.01.2022 Members of the Palm Beach community are asking for everyone's support to stop overdevelopment. Here is an ad that they had printed in this weekend's Gold Coast Bulletin. They are asking for financial support from all residents to fight the Gold Coast City Council and a developer to not have an oversized tower built on the corner of 17th Ave and the Gold Coast Highway. This is a development that laughs in the face of the City Plan. They should not have to do this - let alone at their expense. The appellants need your help. Please donate and share by clinking this link here gf.me/u/yqvdcs For more information about the appeal please head to the website: www.save4221.com.au

04.01.2022 New application alert! 1151 Gold Coast Highway MCU/2020/376 Its under 29m so according to our very grey City Plan it makes it code assessable. However, it has no set backs on 3 out of 4 sides, and takes up 79.9% of the site coverage. The size of the block is only 412m2. ... Click the link to find out more about this application, and if youre concerned like we are, please contact the Council ASAP and encourage them to ensure this development adheres to our town plan. #stopoverdevelpment #savepalmbeach

04.01.2022 FYI - MCU development application in Council for a dual occupancy at 40 Tenth Ave. This is IMPACT ASSESSMENT because the application does not meet the criteria for dual occupancy as the site is less than 800m2. Submissions can be made via GCCC PD Online. Application No. MCU/2020/244 Submissions close 1st of September. https://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au//planning-development-onl

04.01.2022 Recently the GCCC approved a site on the corner of 27th Ave and GC Highway to be a medical center. Today this residential zoned block is back up for sale and all of a sudden this land is also suitable for commercial and retail space? What is going on here? Meanwhile, last week two senior planning staff were sensationally sacked without warning and have been gagged from defending themselves. These two officers were working to ensure that rate payer's concerns and feedback we...re implemented in the plan - as council promised. It seems likely that their removal facilitates the adoption of an alternative plan, heavily influenced by inappropriate lobbying from local developers and supporting their interests. It appears the Director of Economy Planning and Environment is prepared to dismiss anyone who understands the amendments process and the strategic moves necessary and has appointed the Manager of DA assessment as acting head of Strategic Planning. This means that developer speak becomes the initiator of City Plan amendments from now on. How does the CEO know that he has not been misled? There is a lot of unethical things happening within Council right now. If you're not outraged, you should be. We encourage the community to lobby Councillors and insist the CEO conduct a survey by allowing any staff members to speak/write to the CEO without any fear of retribution, about the quality of leadership at Director level and Manager/ Exec Coordinator level in the Directorate of Economy Planning and Environment.

03.01.2022 UPDATE ON 1273 GC HIGHWAY APPEAL: Hi everyone, thank you for your support in this appeal so far. Here is an update from Chris Sands - Appellant Representative. "A 'token' mediation of sorts was undertaken on Tuesday (18/08/20) with parties from the developer, the Gold Coast City Council and appellants in attendance.... Due to the confidential nature of this Without Prejudice meeting, this is all I can report. The appellants were pointedly, and formally warned against disclosing the events which have taken place during this meeting. Anyone who has been through the process will understand the tactics at play, and well provide updates when the appeal reaches the next step. To those who have supported us this far, I appreciate your commitment and understanding and look forward to exposing the undertakings once we are permitted to do so....I think it will be of interest to those who value our community." Please continue to support this cause by spreading the word and encouraging your fellow community members to donate to this fund. For more information about this appeal visit www.save4221.com.au #stopoverdevelpment #savepalmbeach

03.01.2022 Last December Council bowed to public pressure and said they will reduce the building height beachside to 17 metres. Yet by May this year they approved a high rise application that exceeds the current height limit by another 14.5m. Why? If youre not outraged by what is happening to Palm Beach, you should be. Its time to stand up to council and remind them we wont stand for overdevelopment. https://www.abc.net.au//palm-beach-building-heigh/11797686

03.01.2022 If youre a subscriber to the GCB you may have read the article today regarding developers pushing the Council to get their own way. (Not that it takes much.) Here is a well written response from a GC Archtiect worth your time to read. We need to keep this Council accountable and remind them they are here to service the residents that live and work here, not the developers. ... #stopoverdevelopment #pushback www.save4221.com.au

03.01.2022 This is a really important cause. If you truely want to preserve Palmy, you need to act. This appeal is not just going to benefit the people that live directly by the site, but for all Gold Coasters. Enough is enough. Please donate.

02.01.2022 Alright you Palmy Whingers... Your councillors approved a landmark development at 84.9%site cover instead of the 50% outlined in the Town Plan because the consultant (tasked by the developer) told them it was ok, because although the building takes up the huge majority of the site, its Bulk Slender. So folks, for those of you without an architectural background, bulk slender is another term for Big Small so no need to worry about it....... Just as well it facilitates small, fast moving shadows. Get on board Gold Coast. Pass it on.

02.01.2022 In case you werent aware there is a Gold Coast City Council app you can use for non urgent issues. See below.

02.01.2022 Here we go again Jefferson Lane. Another new development application for a ten-storey, 33 unit (82 x bedrooms) apartment building has been lodged this week for 1105 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach, on two neighbouring sites currently occupied by two original Palm Beach homes. Due to it's height of 29m, this application is code assessable however, we encourage you to contact Council if you have concerns via The Assessment Manager at [email protected] or PO Box 5042, GCMC 9746 referencing the application number: MCU/2020/347 Click the link to read more: https://save4221.com.au/2020/08/26/124-126-jefferson-lane/
