24.01.2022 An amazing testimonial from past student Jonathan who is currently studying Bachelor of Law/Computer Science at UNSW. Thanks Jonathan! Palomel provides teaching that is entirely unique, superior to school and other tutoring centres. I have never experienced tutoring with this amount of personal attention, and this much value in opinion and individual input. The teaching will substantially improve ones performance in terms of high school English, but this is done not by sim...ply teaching formulaic methods of attaining marks. By challenging assumptions, encouraging critical thinking, promoting engaging discussion and ultimately facilitating growth of ones own character, the teaching at Palomel, as a result, improves performance in high-school English. For myself, this has significantly improved my marks. But, on a much more important level, it has improved me as a person, and helped me value brand new, genuine perspectives. Of particular significance for me was my experience with viva voces, an unfamiliar, and often intimidating assessment which many students will encounter. I was extremely intimidated at the idea of being asked unknown questions and having to prepare an impromptu response on the spot based on my knowledge. I dreaded the thought of it and loathed the teachers for setting such a, in my view, unreasonably difficult and daunting task. The teaching at Palomel helped ease my concerns. The personal environment and knowledge of the teachers helped create confidence and readiness for the upcoming experience. Furthermore, the teaching helped realign my perspective and perception of the event. The assessment was no longer a burdensome and necessary chore, but an opportunity to express the ideas and opinions that I had developed. Academically, this resulted in an outstanding result of full marks. This result was repeated again a few months later in a similar viva voce. But it was not this where I found the greatest value. The teaching and changed perspective meant that the experience allowed me to grow as an individual, becoming more confident in my ideas and thoughts, to the extent that I was even willing to do it again. And this renewed confidence in my convictions has helped me tremendously as I have progressed beyond high school. Such improvements on a personal level, in addition to the improvement academically, are improvements that no formulaic approach to tutoring will facilitate. Palomel is truly a unique tutoring centre which cannot be matched in this regard."

06.01.2022 Who can read Ophelia into this Rossetti poem? After Death The curtains were half drawn, the floor was swept ... And strewn with rushes, rosemary and may Lay thick upon the bed on which I lay, Where through the lattice ivy-shadows crept. He leaned above me, thinking that I slept And could not hear him; but I heard him say, Poor child, poor child: and as he turned away Came a deep silence, and I knew he wept. He did not touch the shroud, or raise the fold That hid my face, or take my hand in his, Or ruffle the smooth pillows for my head: He did not love me living; but once dead He pitied me; and very sweet it is To know he still is warm though I am cold. 01.01.2022 "Webster was much possessed by death And saw the skull beneath the skin; And breastless creatures under ground Leaned backward with a lipless grin."... Begins T.S Eliot's "Whispers of Immortality" and is the chilling epigraph to Paul Kalanithi's memoir "When Breath Becomes Air". Our year 11 class recently discussed this poetic fragment. We talked about the importance of feeling into poetry, so as to truly understand its significance. A student also read the memoir in a day as she couldn't put the book down. In the end, she said that the book gave her a new perspective on her own suffering. Especially magnificent, she said that the existence of suffering is not the most important thing, but rather the response. At Palomel Education, we encourage real understanding as well as true enjoyment of all that is studied.
