24.01.2022 Cyclone Debbie from space. This image really puts into perspective the sheer size of this system! With Queensland already feeling the effects of Cyclone Debbie, we urge everyone to be safe. 23.01.2022 'Man, it's hot today!' ... a commonly used phrase among North Queenslanders, and today is no exception! If you’re working outside in this scorching heat, it's important to keep cool and know the signs of heat stress. Wear light coloured and breathable clothing, always keep hydrated, and take regular breaks away from direct sunlight. For more information about recognising the signs of heat stress and how to combat it, visit the Worksafe QLD website

23.01.2022 Monday evening (Queensland, Australia): Despite devastating monsoonal flooding, it's been rather quiet, cyclone-wise, in Queensland. However, there's a mildly i...nteresting feature on the other side of the Coral Sea. Called Invest 96P by the U.S. military, this disturbance is centered NW of New Caledonia. It's starting to a show a cyclonic turn, and it could develop. While the global computer models have been generally unenthused about it, the latest (00Z) Euro shows it becoming a strong cyclone and heading SW, in the general direction of Australia, after looping around near Vanuatu for a few days. But that's just one run of one modeland if I had to guess, I'd say this probably won't be a problem for Queensland. But it's something to watch. See more

14.01.2022 Quite possibly one of the most extreme road closure maps the state of Queensland has ever seen, with approximately two thirds of the state in lock down as the r...ain continues to fall in some areas. This represents an affected area approximately twice the size of the UK. Thanks to Matt Anscomb for that comparison! As always, if you need to travel please check https://qldtraffic.qld.gov.au/ for the latest road closure information.

04.01.2022 Looks like 2 major rain systems moving into the Convergence 2 (The one over Townsville). The rain systems are marked in Yellow, not a lot of gaps between them, ...so looks like a solid night of rain. With the dam having had about 400mm today, its likely to get a lot more. With the dam to open fully we are going to see flooding wise spread over the city. See the map I posted earlier. Have a plan in place if you cannot get to higher ground safely. See more
