25.01.2022 Paluma is, on average, 8-10 degrees cooler than the coast and lots of trees in our garden ensures a shady deck all day. So leave the heat behind and make Mt Spec Cottage your refuge for the Australia Day weekend. Swimming at Little Crystal Creek is just 15 minutes away, so you can stake out your picnic table early! Please get in touch or book through Airbnb.

24.01.2022 The cottage has a queen bed, a single and a sofa bed. It is best suited for a couple or small family. Quality linen is provided.

24.01.2022 There's a few moths who would like to be inside, because it's warm shirt weather and raining in Paluma tonight. But it's so nice near the fire, and the cottage is so so cozy. We are fully booked for April, but May isn't far away. Perfect for a romantic getaway...... book soon.

24.01.2022 We are ready to accept guests at Mt Spec Cottage. There is a minimum two night stay. Friday to Sunday $125/night, Monday to Thursday $100/night and $700/week. Please get in touch if interested.

23.01.2022 What a difference a change in linen makes! Now thats much more rainforest cottage decor.

21.01.2022 Such a nosey neighbour!

21.01.2022 Mt Spec Cottage is a circa 1930s cottage, located in the beautiful village of Paluma. It is available for holiday rental with a minimum stay of two nights.

20.01.2022 Theres no better time to stay in beautiful Paluma than winter. The air is crisp and cool, lookout views are stunning, and the birds are keen to share a meal with you! The cottage is cozy, theres heaps of wood for the fire, pop a stew in the slow cooker and relax while it cooks. The next few weekends are free. Book on AirBandB anytime.

20.01.2022 I'm so pleased I approached Meg of Meg's Soap Boudoir to supply guest soaps for the cottage, they are just beautiful! Smell fantastic, locally made, and utterly decadent! I wonder which will be out for you when you book your stay?

17.01.2022 This glorious little fellow is the Eastern Spinebill. He is a tad shy, but can often be seen amongst flowering plants in village gardens. You will also find him on the newish $5 note. Look for him next time youre paying for a coffee.

17.01.2022 The cottage has a fully appointed, newly renovated kitchen, including crockery and cutlery for 6, kettle, toaster, microwave and a slow cooker, perfect for that stew. There is a fridge, freezer and full oven and hotplates. The only old thing here is the retro dining setting that youll just love.

17.01.2022 Perhaps the most amazing thing about Paluma is the birds. Yes, it is tropical rainforest and has species not found anywhere else, but Paluma residents have a special relationship with the local birds. Over generations the birds have come to accept and even trust people, so the chances of getting close to them are great. Birds will visit the deck for fruit, so make sure you bring banana, melon, grapes or similar to feed them.

16.01.2022 View from McClellands lookout yesterday morning. Yep, picture perfect at Paluma!

14.01.2022 Paluma is THE spot for birding now, there are lots of birds in the forest at this time of year, because theres lots of ripe fruit. Such brilliant colours so the birds can see them, in the foliage and on the forest floor. I collected all of these within 30min walk of the cottage and the weather is spectacular! Great time of year to be here!

14.01.2022 The Maples in front of the cottage are beginning to "turn ". From green to amber, then yellow to orange, before flame red and then falling. I dont know of any other maple trees in the Townsville region, so they are a bit spesh. The view from the deck is even better!

12.01.2022 Views from the front deck this morning. It could be you Saturday morning..... Please get in touch if a mountain retreat is your thing this weekend.

12.01.2022 It's stunning at Paluma and the cool weather brings changes to the rainforest. We've had a late booking cancellation for this weekend, due to a sick furbaby, so the Cottage is ready to welcome a couple for a two, three or four night stay. Friday begins the first weekend vacancy in eight weeks! Sleep in, brunch on the deck with the birds, walk in the beautiful forest lunch at Rainforest Inn or picnic at Little Crystal Creek, cheese platter back on the deck, light the wood fire, hearty casserole from the oven, a port in the cozy armchair. Heaven! Please get in touch if I've just planned your perfect day.

12.01.2022 Im generally not very good at butterfly photography, but I was quite impressed with this pic. Taken last weekend, this is a female Orchard Swallowtail (Papilio aegeus), one of Australias largest butterflies. She has obviously had a difficult life, perhaps a narrow miss with a predatory bird, but still so beautiful. Another small gift from the forest.

12.01.2022 Favourite part of the cottage is the spacious front deck. You are in the treetops, so birdwatching is so easy. Perfect spot for breakfast, nice for a cool drink, fabulous spot to watch the clouds roll into the village. Youll love it too!

11.01.2022 Some important people visited our Rainforest home this morning. Great things happening in Paluma. Visit now and avoid the rush!

10.01.2022 What a difference a change in linen makes! Now that's much more rainforest cottage decor.

10.01.2022 So nice to receive such positive feedback!

10.01.2022 When friends drop into the cottage for breakfast, this could happen! Birds are eating pellets made especially for fruit eating birds, but the same thing could happen with a banana!

08.01.2022 Yes, there is a fireplace in the cottage. Matches, firelighters and firewood is supplied. A comfortable chair, a hot chocolate (or a port!) and someone special. After all, there is nothing more romantic than a fire.

07.01.2022 Just advising we have received a booking for Easter, but the cottage is available for rental on six of the eight weekends until then. Talking to Transport and Main Roads this morning and the Range Road should be open to all traffic next week and Townsville City Council advises the Dam Road will reopen in March. It will be so nice to get back to normal!

04.01.2022 Its stunning at Paluma and the cool weather brings changes to the rainforest. 03.01.2022 The bathroom is compact and clean. Oh, an added bonus is the heated towel rail in the front room. Mmmmm, a hot shower and toastie warm towels on a cold night.

03.01.2022 Did you know Outer Limits have a High Ropes course at Paluma? Add a little bit of adventure to your mountain getaway......

02.01.2022 View from McClellands lookout this morning, just breathtaking!!

01.01.2022 The beginning of another beautiful day!

01.01.2022 We received word from friend and neighbour Len Cook (Paluma Pottery) the range road would reopen today, so after a busy morning, we headed "up the hill". The road received minor damage to its infrastructure, which is a solid testament to the engineering skills of the 1930s crews who built the road. I lost count at a dozen landslides, and tree fall numbers were astounding, but other than a few potholes, the road is in good condition. What an experience the drive up was! W...aterfalls around every corner. Amazing! Little Crystal Creek had become Big Coffee Kinda Coloured Creek and so powerful! It was a relief to find our beautiful cottage had not only survived the 3mtrs of rain Paluma received, but, thanks to the dehumidifier, not a spot of mould! This fabulous old darling of a cottage was also built by the skilled hands of the 1930s and remained cozy and dry. Its free next weekend if youre over the heat of the Ville. See more
