12.01.2022 { MIRACLE OF ST. BARBARA } On July 15 we commemorate the Miracle of the ceasing of the 1917 epidemic by St. Barbara in Polydendri in Attica, Greece. In 1917 an epidemic struck the village of Polydendri. Eight people died, and others were on the verge of death. Everyone panicked and many took to the mountains. Homes and surrounding areas were quarantined, and the wells and fountains guarded. Lime was spread over the graves to prevent the spread of the epidemic. A villager nam...ed Panagiotis Spyridon Sotirchos had a vision of St. Barbara in her church, and she said, Come and get me so that I can chase away the sickness. The priest and others took the wonderworking icon of St. Barbara to the intersection of the village. The Christians received her with reverence and tears. Then the saint’s icon was processed around the town, and not only did the epidemic cease, but all the sick became well. Out of gratitude, a feast was established to commemorate this miracle.
