25.01.2022 This is my parenting guide this week. To be able to teach our little ones, we need to learn first. Honest truth, I'm learning from my daughter everyday. She's got so many questions that I don't have answers for. But I'm training myself to research and then provide an answer for her afterwards. I can't always remember doing this though every time...
25.01.2022 My daughter loves to draw. As a part of reading the storybook Frida Kahlo, my daughter drew the portrait for Frida Kahlo. Here is her how-to-draw video: a 6-year-old style https://youtu.be/ljEPqxLihwo
24.01.2022 I've received a few queries recently from the parents in our community asking how I homeschool my daughter Chinese while working full time. Great question because I have a lot to say about this topic. So, instead of answering one at a time, I've written today's post HOW TO HOMESCHOOL CHINESE AS A FULL TIME WORKING PARENT. ... Now, time to talk about my next week's post. Currently, I'm translating the storybook called " I CAN READ - THIS IS MY TOWN by Mercer Mayer. Why did I pick this book? Because it's packed with useful words that we can teach our little ones in Chinese. It's also a great book for a little beginner readers. Same as the Pete the Cat books I've translated before, it will be Chinese translation with Pinyin, flashcards and a story read aloud video. If you haven't subscribed to my email list, you to do so as the FREEBIE is EXCLUSIVE FOR SUBSCRIBERS. https://pandamama.com.au/how-to-home-school-chinese-as-a-f/

23.01.2022 We did Pinyin dictation today! Same as the English phonics, Pinyin is the key foundation for kids to master the Simplified Chinese language. Apart from sounding out each alphabet and blending, kids need to be able to write independently just like writing English letters. Thats what I call a solid foundation. Now the dictation of Pinyin or any Chinese character doesnt need to be boring. The way I did this morning was to read out the Pinyin alphabets and have my daughter to write on the board. If she got it right, then she can thread one bead on the pipe cleaner. Ive used this way for dictation in many occasions. For girls, it works because they love to make bracelets. Maybe you have a boy. Then you can use other games to help your child learn Chinese while playing. Find a way that works for your child is my point.
22.01.2022 This video reminds me my childhood. The one sitting there was me, the one cooking was my older sister. Growing up in the rural part of China in 70s- early 80s, life was not easy. Mum and dad were working in a different city that would take a day to get home by BY TRAIN! They loved us to death but they had no choice but to leave us to be looked after by grandparents. For western standards, its inconceivable to leave children for a year or so and only get to see your children during the Spring Festival( . But that was our reality and still it is for many children in China nowadays ( ) . What have I learned from my childhood experience? LIFE IS WHAT WE MAKE IT. If someone throws you a lemon , you make a lemonade. Dont live your life by default.
21.01.2022 Weve finished our morning learning and off to school now. 20 minutes a day goes long way!

20.01.2022 My daughter Little Pony ( loves to draw! This is the 2nd how-to-draw video I've recorded for her. Apart from the video editing, it's completely her idea. Find what your child loves, create an environment for her/him, and help them to explore their interests. We don't need to be experts at it, we just need to SHOW UP and SUPPORT THEM.
19.01.2022 A bit late today. But I still like to share with you guys a few lines from this new parenting book Ive been reading. The authors are Daniel Siegel and Tina Bryson. The book name is THE POWER OF SHOWING UP. Here are the lines I quote: One of the very best predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, social and emotional development, leadership, skills, meaningful relationships, and even academy and career success- is whether they developed security fro...m having at least one person who showed up for them! ... end quote. We all love our children but not all parents know HOW to love. Sometimes, what we think we did right for our kids may not be the case. Thats why we need to be mindful to learn the right way to love. When I felt running out of fuel, books like this one is where I turn to look for guidance. I hope it helps you too.

Be a learner yourself. Want your child to be healthy and strong? Exercise and eating healthy yourself. Want your child have good manners? Be polite with others yourself. I mean, really do it not just talking about it.

14.01.2022 Reading reading reading! The ultimate goal of teaching our little ones Mandarin Chinese is for them to be able to SPEAK, UNDERSTAND, READ and WRITE in Chinese. From last month, I've been introducing Chinese reading into our homeschool routine with the storybook I translated: Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. Here is how my daughter reads this book. I reckon she does a better job than me. https://youtu.be/KT7wgdniYko

12.01.2022 As promised that I'd translate the book Pete the Cat and His Groovy Buttons this week and share with my subscribers. Well, it's done and here it is. I've received unprecedented downloads for my last learning resources - Chinese translation & flashcards from the storybook Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. I never expected that Id see that many downloads 53 of them just in one week. Wow! This tells me that there is a need in our community, and I must create more to keep... feeding our little ones hungry brains. So, what's included in my blog post this week? 1. I've recorded a story reading aloud video so your child or you can learn to read this story in Mandarin with me. At the end of the story, I'll teach the pronunciation of the eight Chinese words/phrases picked from the book slowly. 2. I've also recorded a video how my daughter reads His Four Groovy Buttons. If you haven't subscribed to my newsletters already, please consider doing so because quality FREE learning resource like this one are EXCLUSIVE FOR SUBSCRIBERS. I like to share with people who want to connect with me. https://pandamama.com.au/pete-the-cat-and-his-four-groovy-/
11.01.2022 This week, we're continuing our geography learning at home. Chinese geography words are something new in our homeschooling routine. Weve read some geography books here and there, but Ive never created any resources to teach my daughter systematically. Well, here it is, which is what Im going to share with you today some entry-level geography activities inspired by the Montessori method that I created to teach children Chinese geography words, the FUN way.... These DIY resources and activities are play-based including the worlds seven Continents, five Oceans, ten landmarks and 35 animals (five animals for each continent). They are perfect for young kids because they are colourful, interactive and have lots of high definition pictures. Watch a few activities we play at home using these resources: https://youtu.be/_D3kHmFwNHo
11.01.2022 Check out how my daughter reads the story THE SUN AND THE WIND in Mandarin. https://youtu.be/vlMpBX9z9Nk
10.01.2022 Hey guys, this is the moment I don't want to share, but, I must. There is a TYPO in the Chinese translation I've created for the story Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. The word for 'minus' in Chinese should be NOT A big shout out to NihaoHello, a member in our community who has spotted my typo. If wasn't you, I wouldn't know. ... I wish I had a proofreader... So, folks, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know my typos or errors in the stuff I create. I've updated the Chinese translation and will email to all of you who downloaded the resource.
10.01.2022 It's read and learn time this week! I've been struggling to find the bilingual copy of Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, and in fact many other English storybooks in Chinese. Sometimes, I could find it. But the price... and most of the bilingual books don't have Pinyin in them.... Out of frustration, I came up with this idea: translating the book myself! So I did and it turned out great. I created the bilingual copy of Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes the way that's suitable for children who are learning Chinese Pinyin. For more details, please check out my blog post this week where you can find out exactly how I did it and a video where I read aloud this story in Chinese and English. At the end of the video, I'll also teach eight Chinese words/phrases that I picked from the story. Hence, read and learn! Have a wonderful weekend with your little ones. https://pandamama.com.au/pete-the-cat-i-love-my-white-shoe/
09.01.2022 Remember I mentioned in my last weeks blog post that today is the DRESS UP DAY at my daughters school? Here it is. I guess she really captured Frida Kahlo mono brow! Reading is not just going through the motion, its about helping your child enjoying the process. It could be silly sometimes, but thats what your child loves. By meeting them at their level, youre cultivating the joy of learning in your child, which goes long way. Happy teaching and happy parenting. https://pandamama.com.au/little-people-big-dreams-frida-ka/
08.01.2022 This is my parenting guideline for this week! We grown ups tend to TELL our littles ones what do to. But we forgot to SHOW the good behaviors ourselves. So from this week onWARD, I've decided to share with you one thing I like to do in a week to make myself a better parent for my daughter. If you are with me, let me know by sharing your thoughts in this thread. Let's keep an eye on each other and make sure we can deliver our promise!
08.01.2022 This week, we're going to read a bilingual storybook that I WROTE to help kids learn Chinese and the legend of the Mid-autumn festival. You can download this book for FREE! This is my 1st storybook EVER! Why did I attempt to write a book myself? Well, A few days ago, my daughters school invited me to read a story about the Chinese Moon Festival because the Mid-autumn Festival is coming up on the 1st of October. Why do they call it the Moon Festival? I have no idea. Maybe... its easier to say Moon than Mid-autumn. The thing is I dont have a book about the Moon Festival. I looked everywhere but couldnt find any storybook with Simplified Chinese, Pinyin, and English in it. So, I thought, this could be a perfect opportunity to write my storybook. And I did. I wrote this book in Simplified Chinese with Pinyin and English named The Legend of the Moon Festival () according to the Chinese folklore Chang E to the Moon () Because I wanted to give kids a Chinese cultural experience as well, we made this book cover look like an ancient Chinese book and bound it with the cotton twine. The one I used in my video was in A3 size. But you can make one in A4 size as well. I've listed a step-by-step guide in my blog post to show you how to make an " ancient Chinese book". Read more to find out: https://pandamama.com.au/whats-the-legend-of-moon-festival/
08.01.2022 My 6-year-old is learning to play golf. I decided to document her journey, and this is our 1st video. It was golf with a parent day last Sat. She is so lucky to have the opportunity to play in the junior program at the Kwinana Golf Club, WA Australia. The program is run by a group of community volunteers who show up every week without fail to help the kids to learn golf. We're so grateful. So I made this video to say thank you for everyone who is involved with the program. https://youtu.be/yjKF_nYCkCY
06.01.2022 This week, I'd like to share with you how we made a DIY Montessori continent map at home (size: 1000mm x 600mm, or 39 x 24 inches). It's very cost-effective compared to what you need to pay to buy one in this size. We had so much fun making this map. What I particularly loved about was that we involved our daughter in this process from beginning to the end.... We always try to teach our daughter to create toys instead of buying them. Making this felt map was a perfect opportunity to show her how its done. If this is something you're interested, you can click the button below to find out the steps to make it and download the FREE map template. https://pandamama.com.au/diy-felt-continent-map-montessori/

05.01.2022 Hey guys. I just like to apologise for not producing any Chinese learning resources this week. I know it sounds like an excuse, but I'm flat out with my accounting work... Good news is that I know exactly what to share with you guys next week because I received overwhelming response and downloads for my last week's blog post: Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes Story Read Aloud in Chinese and English. It looks like I'm not the only one looking for a low-cost solution to cre...ate bilingual storybooks for our little ones. So, similar to my last week's post, my next blog post will be '' Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons' with FREE downloadable flashcards, Chinese translation and a video reading aloud this story in Chinese and English. For those of you who haven't signed up to my newsletters yet, please consider doing so because the FREEBIES that I'm going to include in my next post is SUBSCRIBER-ONLY content.
