08.01.2022 Calling all people who have periods: please read on. If this is your first time hearing about a menstrual cup, I understand the thought of it may make you cringe a little. But you know what makes me cringe now? Learning that tampons contain bleach and chemicals that are then absorbed into the body (think: toxic shock syndrome); and the idea that the average female deposits 150kg of these toxic menstrual products to landfill in their lifetime. Eek. .... If you can, give one of these babies from @lunettecup a go. It just may be a game changer for you. made from comfortable, soft silicone can be left in for up to 12 hrs 1 cup should last 10+ years

05.01.2022 How often do you see stubbies, plastic bottles and cans littered around the place? Rumour has it that in Australia alone, 15000 bottles and cans are littered or sent to landfill every minute. . . . Tasmania and Victoria are the only states who haven’t signed up to a container deposit scheme (CDS)- a system where consumers (us) are given a refund (usually 10c) for returning bottles and cans for recycling. ... . . . By implementing a cash-for-containers scheme, we would help recover valuable resources and thereby decrease the amount of rubbish that ends up in the ocean and landfill. It would also create jobs, save local authorities money and change our attitudes towards trash (or treasure?). . . . South Australia have been doing it since 1977 and the NT, Qld and WA have also jumped on board. Last week, Victorian parliament voted on introducing a Container deposit scheme in their state. Tassie has to be next. . . . But it’s not going to happen without your say... sign the petition at https://www.senatorsurfer.com/tas-cash-for-containers-now

03.01.2022 Why is it we like to wake up to the picture of nature on our wall rather than the picture of a bulldozer or a coal slag heap? The answer is because, inherently, we know that nature is extraordinarily good for us... But that common sense which understands that nature is fundamentally important to us...is being overridden. It’s being overridden by the greed factor which is let rip in unrestrained consumerism. It’s easy to get bogged down in the sometimes messy state of our wo...rld, but the Bob Brown Foundation’s motto is don’t get depressed, get active. As well as being a realist, Bob is an optimist. What can we do? Use our vote and voices wisely, pool our collective intelligence, do unto others as we’d have them do unto ourselves, and have belief that a small number of people can change the world. Oh yeah, and spend time in nature... Because if we get to know it, we will want to save it. This interview with Bob is in the recent @dumbofeather magazine and it’s a pearler. Drop me your email if you’d like a copy of the article sent through!
