22.01.2022 INDUCTION DAY! The Panorama girls got stuck into inducting the weaners today. Induction of our ET calves involves assigning a management number and tag to each animal, scanning their RFID tag and taking a current weight. ... We collect a DNA sample using Tissue Sampling Units (TSU’s) for genetic testing; genetic testing for Myostatin, Coat Colour, Horn status, and to verify each calf to its parents is a requirement for registration of all purebred calves with Speckle Park International. All of our calves are also PI tested to ensure that we aren’t introducing any animals into the herd that are persistently infected with Pestvirus. They receive their first Pestigard vaccination to protect against Pestivirus and we also note coat colour, the presence of scurs and check the general health of each animal. It sounds like a lot but they’re in and out within a couple of minutes with minimal discomfort!

21.01.2022 It was a hive of activity this morning! Caitlin from Australian Premier Genetics was on farm to collect two of our bulls, and a delivery of panels from Super Steel Tamworth arrived, ready for the next stage of upgrades to our cattle yards.

19.01.2022 Bon Voyage! Quasimodo (PFS Q12) started his migration South yesterday, ready to catch a boat across Bass Strait to Tasmania early this week. We would like to wish his new owners at Bowach Speckle Park Tas all the best with their future program. ... Quasimodo is a lovely natured, well balanced young bull and we have a feeling that Tasmania green is going to look great on him!

14.01.2022 G69 was due for a heifer calf this year and she didn’t disappoint with this little leopard beauty! Each year since we purchased her she has gone tit-for-tat with heifer and bull calves; after a cracking bull calf last year we hoped she would keep up the pattern. With two daughters already retained in the herd we will be keeping a close eye on this little one as a future Panorama breeder!

And, our 2020 drop ET calves arrived home from QLD. We’re very excited about the genetic combinations and strong maternal cow lines that we have coming through this group. ... 04.01.2022 What a busy weekend! On Friday we had Narrabri & Wee Waa Veterinary Clinic out to conduct veterinary assessments of our sale bulls. Each bull is individually assessed to ensure they are in full physical and reproductive health which includes semen testing to check both motility and morphology. We’re very pleased to report that all of the bulls passed with flying colours and are ready to work!... We also owe a big thanks to Matt, Mikayla and Isabel from M&M Show Steers and Fitting Service for coming down over the weekend to help us wash the paddock off the sale bulls ready for their sale photos and videos.
