16.01.2022 Call us crazy, but this is what Panschool are aiming for.....a 60 piece community-based steelband, here on the Sunshine Coast. This particular steel orchestra, Birdsong, is based in Trinidad. This is the junior band - which means that all players are under 21. In this video they can be seen giving their preliminary round performance in front of a panel of judges in their Tunapuna panyard. The arrangement was created by two of the band members (Nicholas Jones and Aviel Scanter...bury) and the band placed 4th in the final round of the Junior Panorama Championship in Feb. this year. This was the first year since being established in 1973, that Birdsong has entered a Junior band in the competition. If seeing a steel orchestra like this fills you with excitement, and an urgent desire to play a steelpan - and why wouldn't it? - I'm pleased to say that Panschool can offer you the opportunity to start learning right away! We have a full range of steelpans and many years of teaching experience to get you engaged. Previous musical experience isn't essential as we cater for all levels and ages, starting from (approx) 12 years up. 08.01.2022 Sharon and I are very proud of the performance by our St. Andrews Steelband students of "It's Carnival Time Again" - one of the pieces that they will be perform...ing at PANZfest on Sept 26th. We have every confidence that these students will give a very commendable account of themselves at the steelband festival and do the school proud. See more
