20.01.2022 Match Reports The COVID-19 delayed start to the season was well worth the wait as Panton Hill recorded two wins in as many matches in its senior grades despite missing numerous players across both the Mash Shield and E-Grade sides. The Mash Shield Redbacks defeated Greensborough by 26 runs. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Panton Hill posted 153 off its 40 overs with Max Brook (27) top-scoring in his first match for the club since returning from Canada. He wasn’t alo...ne and the depth of the Redbacks’ contributions in the top and middle order via Steve Tung, reappointed captain-coach Rick Ford (both 25) and opener Michael Stamkovski (20) gave the bowlers a defensible but not commanding total. However, it proved more than enough for the Redbacks to work with. Ryder Hobbs (4/15) and Jackson Mill (2/16) engineered a Greensborough top order collapse of 5/28 and from that position of 5/56, Panton Hill always had the match at arm’s length. The E-Grade Redbacks defeated Riverside by 29 runs to record a win in Austin McCrabb’s first match at the helm as co-captain with Tom Rodgerson. Panton Hill batted first and seized control with a 79-run second wicket partnership between Brad Stone (41) and Lewis Taylor (39) with a typically belligerent 31 from Jamie Frankenberg swelling the Redbacks’ total to 156. Disciplined bowling caused impatience amongst Riverside and Jim Rodgerson (2/18) was the beneficiary. When Lewis Taylor returned to take three quick wickets, the knockout blow had been landed.

20.01.2022 The following statement has been prepared by the family of Panton Hill Cricket Club life member John Millman, who passed away earlier this week. The Millman family would like to thank you all for your kind thoughts and for the friendships Dad enjoyed through his community involvements over the years. The family will farewell John privately this coming Tuesday but hope you all can join us in remembering John once current restrictions have been relaxed.... We are hoping that once restrictions are eased we might be able to have a relaxed memorial at the ground even if the rooms can’t be used. Thank you both for your help and thoughts. The Millman family

16.01.2022 Our Mash Shield fixture for the 2020/21 season is here! Stay tuned for other grades.

13.01.2022 MATCH REPORTS Panton Hill registered its second consecutive whitewash week, registering five wins between the junior and senior sides. Our Under 12s White team claimed a six-wicket victory over Laurimar 2 off the final ball of its T20 on Wednesday night. Featuring an even mix of new players and old faces from previous seasons, the youngest Redbacks held Laurimar to 55 off their 20 overs with Huw Whitworth and San Glass-Hall taking crucial wickets and Panton Hill debutants Bai...ley Stewart and Tom Barrett claiming their first scalps. Tom (6) and Ed Renouf (5) then top-scored in the Redbacks’ reply with Billy Rodgerson gliding a drive through gully to seal his side’s first win of the season. Our Under 18s Panton Hill/Hurstbridge side defeated Lower Plenty/Rosanna by six wickets in their Round 1 T20. Panton Hill bowled first and Redbacks Kyle Marasco (2/7) and Steve Tung (2/9) did the damage with the ball. Steve then followed up his bowling with a superb unbeaten 50 with the bat. His opening stand with Billy Lovett (38) was worth 70 and set the Redbacks on the path to victory at the end of the nineteenth over. Our Mash Shield team is one of four unbeaten teams in the grade after defeating Lower Plenty by 22 runs. Panton Hill batted first and relied on a steady stream of starts to compile 172 all out. Michael Stamkovski (20) and Max Brook (28) got the ball rolling in the top order before Tom Rodgerson’s (32) and Rick Ford’s (21) quickfire innings boosted their side to a competitive score. Despite wicket-taking spells from Rick Ford (3/15) and Jackson Mill (2/13) at the start of the innings, Lower Plenty was clawing its way to victory before Stephen Fitzgerald claimed three wickets in a single over to wrest control back the way of the Redbacks. Panton Hill had the match well in its keeping when Mitch Selleck claimed the final run-out to dismiss Lower Plenty for 150. Our E-Grade side sits atop the ladder at the end of Round 2 after a massive percentage-boosting win over Mill Park. A tremendous batting performance from the Redbacks’ top order saw Panton Hill romp to 4/289 off its 40 overs. Lewis Taylor commanded the bowling with an even unbeaten century, his first at senior level for the Redbacks. Opener Jesse Loudovaris (63), captain Austin McCrabb (49) and Will Ashton (49) also had days out. Callum O’Connor led the way in the defence with a five-wicket haul before Loudovaris added a pair of wickets to his haul as Mill Park managed just 8/114 in reply. Our G2 side is in the top four after holding off Banyule by 16 runs. The Redbacks batted first and could only reach 112. Lachie Homewood (27) and Micky Guthrie (19) formed the heart of the innings with a 33-run fifth wicket partnership. Panton Hill struck early and Kyle Marasco (3/8) spun the Bears into the perilous position of 5/54. Lachie Berriman and Oscar Shaw also finished with a pair of wickets as Banyule was bowled out for 96.
