23.01.2022 The Papa Nui Invader cap. Honouring the 418th Night Fighter Squadron in a sensation black herringbone twill with satin hand cut numbers. The unit flew out of New Guinea and rescued my fathers convoy when they sailed into an enemy shore battery. It’s a story he told me a hundred times over. This cap has provenance! #papanui #southpacific #invadercap #atolldefender

15.01.2022 Z-Special Cap. Recently I’ve been working with Bill Yao from the MKII watch company in the USA, because many of our ideas have an intersection of inspiration and we wanted to harness the opportunity to bring each other’s markets into alignment, great caps, awesome watches! This winter’s collaboration is a faithful recreation of the knit-comforter cap used by Commonwealth special operations groups, the Australian Z-force, the British Commandos and oddly the US Army Rangers. T...he US ‘Darby's Rangers’, were originally formed in the UK and trained by the British and hence employed a great deal of British gear at their inception. During their training a group of 50 Rangers were attached to the British No. 3 and No. 4 Commando and Canadian forces for Operation Jubilee, the fateful raid on Dieppe. The Rangers and their British compatriots of No. 4 Commando on beach Orange wore the cap comforter on their the successful raid on Varengeville. Whilst the overall failure at Dieppe has become a tragic cautionary tale, the Commandos and U.S Army Rangers are widely regarded as having held their own against overwhelming odds and casualties. Both Bill and I were completed intrigued by this cap so recently when some original pieces were made available we jumped on the opportunity to base ours on these period examples, and so the Papa Nui Z-Special cap is a faithful recreation of the World War II cap comforter in an olive drab pure wool, made exclusively for the Papa Nui Cap Company and MKII Watches in the best knitting facilities in Japan. The cap-comforter is an ingenious and perplexing design to the uninitiated. It is essentially a tube of knitted wool that is sewn together at both ends. So when it is completely unfurled it is a short scarf. When one end is tucked into itself and worked through to the other end and folded over, it can be worn as a double layered knit cap. The WWII era ones were sometimes stamped with manufacturers and government property marks but all incorporated the Commonwealth Broad Arrow design as a mark of provenance as does ours. #papanui #zforce #zspecial #watchcap @mkiiwatch #commandos See more
03.01.2022 The one thing 2020 did for me was to provide the space to focus on increasing my Ops-tempo exponentially. The result of this burst of energy means there’s a prolific volume of ideas being developed and released in this new year. The new line sheet has been sent out to the Chosen Few Retailers so that they can place their orders for the new season and now things are definitely in motion. You can look forward to a new drop of Beachmasters in various Nam Cams as well as a spec...ial collab with Anthony Sylvester @toneloki that references Correspondents and Congressmen in Saigon, there’s Bob Hope Tour Caps to come, UDT shorts, loop wheel tees, watch caps, visors and more. There’s also an all new in store range for summer! One of my favourites is the Flak Bait Cap. You can never have too much Herringbone Twill and so the Flak Bait cap has rugged service written all over it. From its robust HBT exterior in olive drab, through to its A-2 jacket tan poplin interior its an aviation cap through and through! Deep in the crown so it’s not going to blow off in a hurry and an ample sun visor to keep the glare at bay, this cap its fit for duty. With a mike/goggle strap at back, a detail lifted from customised period examples, the Flak Bait is mission ready for all targets. Available Spring 2021. #papanui #southpacific #atolldefender #flakbait #summer2021 #chosenfewretailers #victorystartshere See more
