25.01.2022 So lovely to see Olivia Ford featured on the front page of The Advocate newspaper today. Olivia's multi-disciplinary talents are currently on display at Hellyer College's graduating art exhibition, where she combines her love of dance, photography and modelling. Through her involvement with En Vogue Modelling Academy, we were privileged to have Olivia model the works of Mali Klein, Tony Williams, Chloe Townsend and Kelcie Bryant-Duguid in this year's Design Eye Creative 'paper on skin'. Congratulations to all the students whose work is included in the show - it has indeed been a challenging year!

23.01.2022 Huge congratulations to Anzara Clark on this suite of remarkable works currently being exhibited by Incinerator Gallery (all able to be viewed online). Anzara's practice focuses on the application of textile techniques to paper. A highly awarded wearable art artist, Anzara won the 'paper on skin' Betta Milk Major Award in 2014, the Friends of the Gallery Runner Up Award in 2016 and was a finalist in 2018. Always there are stories, so take some time to delve into the online display.

23.01.2022 Design Eye Creative 'paper on skin' 2020 judge Virginia Dowzer has been sharing her talents with Melbournians with these incredible displays for Melbourne Fashion Week. 21.01.2022 Almost time! Premiere screening SOLD OUT https://www.theadvocate.com.au//world-first-screening-of/

20.01.2022 As promised, today we unveil the three works of Tony Williams, each pre-selected for Design Eye Creative paper on skin 2020. Tony is based in Cleveland, Ohio. Due to COVID-19, international freight problems caused extended delays in the journey of the works from the US to Tasmania. Sadly the pieces missed the judging and filming process. We had Grant Wells Photo on his marks, however, to capture the works being unpacked and installed at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery as so...on as they arrived. Fortunately Olivia from En Vogue Modelling Academy was available to model the piece Black Gold. The images speak for themselves. Lucky locals still have the opportunity to see these, plus the 27 other extraordinary works, at the gallery until the 31st July. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the gallery is only open Friday, Wednesday and Monday. Entry is free, but visitors are advised to book tickets via burnietickets.net.au And we havent forgotten the work of Romanian finalist Antoaneta Tica. It is heartbreaking that her piece was unable to even leave Romania because of freight restrictions. She has taken some wonderful photographs of the completed work which we will share in the coming days. See more

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Brielle Killip, Chris Geissinger and Jennifer Garber (Colorado, USA). Their stunning work Flower of Life has won the Cocoon Designs Public Vote Award $500 for Design Eye Creative paper on skin 2020. They are a double winner, having already been awarded the Honorable Roger Jaensch MP Runner-Up Award of $2000! The technical accomplishment of Flower of Life is extraordinary. It is made from 2,300 pieces which have been carefully assembled and machine st...itched. If only everyone had had the chance to see the detail close-up! When submitting their entry, Brielle and her fellow artists described the piece as follows: the flower of life, a symbol of sacred geometry containing ancient, religious value and depicting the fundamental forms of space and time. It is a visual expression of the connections life weaves through all beings, representing beauty, balance, confidence and grace. We wanted to make a bold dress that would make the wearer of this dress radiate these qualities and be comfortable to wear. Brielle, Chris and Jennifer, based on this result Flower of Life indeed radiates those qualities. Thank you to everyone who voted. So much love for so many pieces. 08.01.2022 Once upon a time, Burnie was lucky enough to have the very talented Helen Perry (then Helen White) manage the ‘Creative Paper Mill’ - a handmade paper making facility, tourist stop-off and artist studio in a disused part of the sprawling & ‘not-yet-demolished’ pulp mill. The venue evolved to what is now Makers' Workshop, housing Creative Paper Tasmania and Burnie’s Visitor Information Centre. Helen is now based in Queensland with her family, busy running her own PR company &... collaborating with the Australian Wearable Art Festival. Big shout out from your Tassie friends, Helen! 07.01.2022 Oh the swings and roundabouts of Design Eye Creative paper on skin 2020! COVID-19-induced log-jams with international freight meant that works by two of our international finalists became stranded. Very sadly, Let them Be(e)! by Antoaneta Tica remains in Romania :( . Tony Williams (Ohio, USA) had three works pre-selected, Black Gold, Indigo Ripple and Woodabe Vest and Pants. Tony sent the works in good time, but the pandemic interfered and delays meant the works on...ly arrived in this week. All is not lost, Tony! The works are now installed in the exhibition, they already have their own fan club AND we were able to bring Grant Wells Photo in to get some shots of the long awaited unpacking of the pieces. Here is a teaser... more tomorrow. Weve waited a long time for these. Sharing the savour :) Thank you to Olivia from En Vogue Modelling Academy for modelling Black Gold - more of these wonderful shots tomorrow. All images by Grant WellsPhoto The exhibition is currently showing at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery. The gallery is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am - 4.30pm. That only leave 4 working days for you to see ALL the incredible pieces. Entry is free but you are encouraged to book your spot via burnietickets.com.au

06.01.2022 We were thrilled to have esteemed Romanian artist Antoaneta Tica selected as a finalist for Design Eye Creative paper on skin 2020. At the time of pre-selection, the world was reeling from emerging news about COVID-19 and its potential impact. We kept in close contact with Antoaneta and were excited by the prospect of her piece. International freight and postage lines closed quite early in Romania, but we all had hopeful hearts that they would open in time for Let them Be(...e) to be shipped to Tasmania. In fact, postage only opened up last week. Too late, sadly, for this stunning creation to find its home among the wonderful suite of works comprising Design Eye Creative paper on skin 2020. We are truly sorry for Antoaneta that so much effort was devoted to completing the work, only for circumstances to prevent it reaching its intended destination. How incredibly generous of the artist to organise a photo shoot so we could appreciate the concept, craftsmanship and beauty of Let them Be(e). Let them Be(e) has an environmental theme, specifically about bees. Antoaneta says: Without bees, most plants will not be able to grow anymore. Deprived of the essence of life, the Earth would become a desert where man could no longer live. The design emphasises duality, demonstrating two opposite aspect of nature, each half of the garment, right - flourishing and humming, left - dry and silent, representing its life and death. Let them Be(e) is made from papier-mached egg cartons. The cartons themselves are coloured, therefore no paint is used. Highlighting the theme of duality, two textures are shown, one as cracked mud, the other like plants and flowers. Images: supplied by artist
