Hosted by Young Women Against Sexual Violence, A Letter to my Perpetrator is an important exhibit showcasing women’s lived experiences with sexual violence. Come along and listen to these valuable stories and hold space for an important discussion. Tickets available through the event page all proceeds go to YWASV.
25.01.2022 During Mental Health Week Mountain Co-Op and Paper Mountain have a series of creative workshops and events we’d love to share and to help bring awareness and support mental health wellbeing. More information about Mental Health Week and all of the upcoming events from everywhere in WA can be found here: @mentalhealthweekwa Our events we have coming up for the week include;... **Art RX Creative practises for self care with Jamie & Megan** This workshop will teach you a new creative process to help you tap into your emotions and create a personalised piece of art. This workshop is great for anyone, of any age. No previous art experience is necessary. The only requirement is a willingness to look at your feelings. We will provide different kinds of art materials and textiles, but please feel free to bring along your own supplies if you prefer. Date: Saturday 10th October 12.30pm - 3.30pm Location: Mountain Co-op (683 Hay St, Perth WA 6000 ground level) **Clay Meditation with Irene Schneider** Journey to inner discovery, self-reflection, and creative exploration with clay play mindfulness practices. Enjoy and experience a relaxing mind-body realignment whilst channelling energy into a creative exploration of clay. The process will mindfully guide you to creativity and sensually connect with the clay. You may feel a sense of relaxation, release, meditation and creative exploration. Date: Wednesday 14th October 6pm -7.30pm Location: Common Room Paper Mountain (267 William St, Northbridge) **Hang Out - Casual Art Therapy Session** This Mental Health Week we will be hosting a casual arts and crafts hang out at the Mountain Co-op. This casual hang out is a great way to unwind, focus on your creativity and connect in a safe space. Feel free to bring art materials or anything you have been working on recently into the space. 25.01.2022 Last month Paper Mountain hosted artist Chiluba Young's first solo exhibition Home, 1996. The exhibition was a huge success especially with the help of so many people. Firstly we'd like to thank Soul Alphabet (Linda Iriza, Tife Adegboye, Nora Zion, Toby Batchelor and Anesu Mlambo), DJ's @Alienboy, @Sepsaay and @Bundemand, Jim Bob for photographing these moments and lastly Chiluba for allowing us exhibit your work. Congratulations on a such a successful event.
24.01.2022 Last weekend Paper Mountain launched two exhibitions, Portal & Open Sea, as part of the Sea Currents x Sychronicities festival. This event was held on the unceded sovereign lands of the Whadjuk people of the Bibbulmun nation. We acknowledge and give our respect to their elders past and present, who are important storytellers, keepers of knowledge, and cultural custodians of all of us who live in this place. And we extend solidarity and friendship and hope for a future where a...ll are afforded justice, dignity, and peace. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land. *** We'd like to say a big thank you to all the artists and helpers involved in making the launch party and success. Sea Currents x Synchronicities is a small arts festival taking place in Perth and Singapore on the 16th - 30th September that aims to explore and build on connections, and synchronicities between the arts communities in Singapore and Perth. Tonight you can livestream the launch of the Singaporean exhibition of Portal, a linked exhibition between DECK gallery in Singapore and Paper Mountain in Boorloo (Perth). Please visit the link below to attend the launch virtually!: Portal is a slow art experience where visitors are welcome to stay and sit amongst works as well as to touch them. A collaboration between Cherish by Her and Paper Mountain, this exhibition between The Starving Artists and Paper Mountain is part of the inaugural Sea Currents and Synchronicities festival held in parallel between Perth and Singapore. Visitors will be a part of connections forged in a non-traditional white cube space where the Singapore artists will be available for a chat if booked ahead of time (https://forms.gle/CQxbyN6JpHxj2vdM9) and where works will be given more time to be absorbed in a more personal, novel way. The Singapore part of the exhibition is made up of artists who are all showing works from different mediums - photography, video, sculpture, fashion, poetry, ceramic. 23.01.2022 A few weeks ago we launched a crowd funding campaign, to help raise funds but also to create awareness about Paper Mountain's shift to becoming a social change and community justice organisation. An organisation that supports all forms of creative and cultural expression. We had an incredible lineup of artists perform for the fundraiser. Paper Mountain has always been a volunteer run arts organisation. One way to help make our creative community sustainable is through fundraising! This event was a little bit extra memorable as it was predominately organised by our new volunteers! There was so much enthusiasm, excitement and energy in the space.
