25.01.2022 Introducing our new beautiful Shell prints. We have had the creative juices flowing and created two stunning new prints - Cool Shells and Warm Shells. They have been a labour of love starting with taking photos of sand at the beach at Mooloolaba and then using shells provided from family and a very good friend (all shells used collected many years ago, but lovingly preserved) to create the Cool and Warm Shell images. 20.01.2022 Feathering Techniques - Part 6 I am excited to release the 6th and final video in the Feathering Techniques series. https://papertoleworld.com.au/index.php/feathering-ht-menu Heads can be the most challenging part of a bird in paper tole. Getting that eye aligned so your bird has a happy rather than grumpy look can be quite a feat sometimes. In this 83-minute video you will learn how to create 4 bird’s heads. Each head is different in size and shape, with a side or front vi...ew. You will see how to adjust your techniques to suit. We will move on with practical, detailed information and lots of close ups for easy viewing. There are no hard and fast rules and there are options. If you feel a section has not turned out the way you hoped, then try option 2 which is shown in detail. 15.01.2022 Did someone say "NEW PRINTS". Well check these stunning images just published by Paper Tole World. The brilliant colours of the striking Gouldian Finches were a big hit when shown to my Friday class. Gouldian Finches are Australia's most spectacularly coloured grass finches. They are small birds, with a bright green back, yellow belly and a purple breast. The facial colour is usually black, and is found in about 75% of the birds. There is also the magnificent stag horn found in our tropical forests, our wonderful pelicans seen around our coast line, the popular green frog and of course the beautiful Cymbidium Orchid. https://www.papertoleworld.com.au/index.php/whats-new

08.01.2022 Feathering Techniques - Part 5 I am excited to release the 5th video in the Feathering Techniques series. https://papertoleworld.com.au/index.php/feathering-ht-menu In this 25 minute video I am happy to share with you my plan of how to feather 2 x free form chests - the Kookaburra and Wren. When there are no visible or minimal guidelines on pieces such as these, it can be quite daunting, leaving us with a feeling of "how on earth can I make these look any good!"... This method is ideal for a fabulous fluffy finish to enhance your bird and you will grasp this concept easily allowing you to create a fluffy chest on any future bird with a similar chest. There is frequent reference to previous videos in this series for specific feathering techniques. 06.01.2022 Filling in Time Eagle Fishing BIRD LOVERS This Eagle is one of the birds which has been used to demonstrate feathering in the How to Videos on our website. The head is not completed as we will be producing the video very soon on how to create a bird's head. He has been sitting in my cupboard for the last couple of years with half the body unfinished. ... Now that I had to get serious about the feathers, it meant my time was limited to about 4 hours max per session - then it was an enforced break - my concentration level was strongly tested. Magnolia time!! The closer I came to the top of the wings, the smaller the feathers, so the two top rows on each wing are in very thin strips, challenging but giving an even finish on the outside edge. This will be seen more clearly on the video. Alignment is critical for accurate placement of feathers, it is also a challenge because the feathers are brown - easy to get lost. The videos available currently are Feathering Part 1 - Techniques including scratching and flicking Feathering Part 2 - The technique Feathering Part 3 - The tail on an eagle, a wren and a kookaburra Feathering Part 4 - The plan on how to create wing feathers Golden Rule - always align the tab and the piece will fit.

03.01.2022 Latest Paper Tole Project - Owl I am happy to share my latest completed Paper Tole Project with you. You will see from the images that the original print is different to my completed work. I felt there was a large area of white which I found rather stark, so made the decision to paint a background blending some colours to create a soft shade to compliment the picture. Also the width of the print has been reduced so some leaves are rearranged to close the gap between the middle branches. This example shows how you can make changes to an image but still retain the subject. 01.01.2022 Filling in Time Magnolia Glow II No doubt many of you have been filling in your time with some paper tole, well me too, so thought I would share with you. The Magnolia Glow ll has been removed from the base print and I did not include the table. It then appeared a little out of balance to me so I added an extra leaf, bottom right. I didn't tab into the flower to get these leaves, the shape and length may be adjusted from existing leaves on the print and slipped under which ev...er area you wish. The flower was built on a temporary backing board, and before transferring it to the base of my choice (a piece of matt board, yes a bit boring but that's all I had and there was no ducking out to the shop), I sprayed it with a gloss sealer to protect it from dust. The colour discrepancy is in the photos, it is the same print. This was a quick project and gave me a break now and then from the in depth feathering on the Eagle. See more
