25.01.2022 Know anyone in South Australia who has a disability and interested in sport? If so , encourage them to come to the attached badminton come and try session

24.01.2022 More Sports wheelchairs for badminton. We have been successful with a funding application to Paralympics Australia and will be having four new chairs in both Western Australia and South Australia early next year. 3 of the chairs are destined for individuals from those states that submitted individual applications. This will allow us to make badminton more accessible and support those who will benefit from playing in a chair which is perfectly suited for badminton.

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Grant Manzoney and Celine Vinot who both secured sponsorship from Yonex. It is really good not only for them ,but for all Para players as this is further testimony that sponsors are keen on working with Para players and I hope this is replicated with more players as our sport continues to grow.

24.01.2022 Our para players have gone straight to Dubai from Turkey and commence their matches tomorrow morning. They have been joined by Luke Missen and from NZ Corrie Robinson. Various managers meetings attended and team are ready to go for first set of matches. Over 270 players witha lot of very good players which will provide a stern test looking forward to seeing some great games.

24.01.2022 Nang is one of our new para badminton players from WA. . He has set the benchmark on upper body fitness. Who is going to challenge him on push ups? Hopefully you are all training hard and some of you will be on the courts soon

23.01.2022 Did you know about the different movement requirements in disability badminton? In partnership with Badminton Australia, our Coaching and Development Team hav...e been working with BWF Badminton World Federation qualified coaches to explain such differences. Find out more bit.ly/2NqYwxw

22.01.2022 After a week in PNG helping develop para badminton returned back to office in BA where a late Christmas present was waiting. The new shuttle feeder machines have arrived. Today it was used with Ali. Equipment worked well and am looking forward to it being used to further develop para badminton in the coming months and years. A massive thanks go to Paralympics Australia who fully supported our application for funding.

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Grant Manzoney who has made it through to the finals of the Western Australian Sportsperson of the year and will be attending a start studded gala where the winner will be presented with their award. This is a prestigious event in WA. Grants nomination was based on a variety of factors. His desire and passion to play sport with a disability being one of them, starting with cricket and then moving to badminton where he has established himself as the number o...ne player in the Oceania region . He has now competed in several internationals which required him to get his first passport! Off the cricket pitch, Grant has been involved with administration which he continues to do even though not playing. On the badminton front he is now a level 1 Australia coach and is running disability badminton along with coaching able bodied juniors. Grant helps out with line judging at events and has recently joined the WA badminton board. Grant is excellent at helping people and looks to mentor those who need support. There is a lot more that can be said about Grant and from the badminton family we think it wonderful that he has been recognised for his achievements. He is up against three wonderful sports people, one of them being Australia's top female soccer player. Enjoy the gala and then back into training!

21.01.2022 Day 1 at Dubai international. The morning session was the mixed doubles where we struggled but managed to get one win with Caitlin Dransfield and her partner Pascal Lapointe from Canada. After lunch Luke Missen convincingly won his singles and we have Corrie Robinson and Grant Manzoney playing their first singles shortly and am hoping for a couple of wins to end day one on a high.

21.01.2022 The planned National Para championships for 2020 have been cancelled due to the ongoing covid 19 situation. We were planning to hold the event in the latter part of the year but having considered all relevant factors we feel it is in the best interest of everyone to make this difficult decision. While this is disappointing we are working on a number of exciting plans to ensure we can grow our numbers, support performance pathways and provide opportunities for players to compete in both national and international events.

21.01.2022 Para players in South Australia were also in action at the weekend competing in the Glenelg inter club competition. This club have shown how easy it is to be inclusive and several Para players are also involved on the committee. Well done to Zashka Gunson and Kim Doing who were part of the winning team.

21.01.2022 The Dubai international has now concluded. A great event with over 270 players from all around the world. In the singles all our Australian players manged one win but were unable to progress out of the group stages. We are now back home and training begins in anticipation of the next events, one of which will be the Australian para national in June and later in the year the Australian International event, further details will be forthcoming in due course. Well done to all those involved in Dubai and while we did not win any trophies many of the locals now "Say g'day Aussie." Finally a big well done to the organisers and many volunteers who made it such a good event.

20.01.2022 Caitlin Dransfield mixed doubles run comes to an end in the quarter finals, losing 21-8. 21-8 to a strong Japanese pair. This concludes our involvement in this tournament. The event has been superbly run, with a great playing arena and for some they will be back in September next year for the Paralympics where every seat in the arena will be taken.

20.01.2022 Some more good news on the para side of the house. We submitted a bid to Paralympic Australia to purchase four sport wheelchairs to provide greater opportunities for our players and we have been successful. Four chairs are currently being ordered and will hopefully be available for use at the National competition on the 29th June. Paralympic Australia have opened up another round of funding and this is also available for individual athletes who require equipment. This is a great initiative and is designed to help athletes with some of the cost of participating in sport. This is the link for those that are interested. https://www.paralympic.org.au/programs/equipment-fund Demand will be high and bids need to be fully justified. Happy to be contacted for any advice.

20.01.2022 Turned out to be our last day of competitive badminton as lost the remaining games. Caitlin and Celine were 19-19 in the second game against France and in next rally our shot clipped the net but fell the wrong side. So close! Has been a steep learning curve for a number of our players and only with more time and consistent practice will we start getting out of the group's on a regular basis.

19.01.2022 The fun begins! The tournament starts very shortly and it will be a challenging day for the players as they all have plenty of games., Some are scheduled for seven matches. Will be some weary limbs tonight. Best of luck to all those competing.

19.01.2022 What a weekend in Mandurah for those involved in Para badminton. Record numbers, some great matches and so much interest from able bodied players to compete in the next event. May need to cap the numbers! Winners of the WH singles was Grant Manzoney winning 21-17. 24-22 in the final and backed this up winning the doubles with Lochan Cowper 21-18 21-15. Caitlin Dransfield (SL4) player won the women's grade C singles in a close fought contest which required count back as all the players won one game. We also ran a come and try session and we now have the interest and support to set up a club in Mandurah, hopefully in the coming months.

18.01.2022 This week a new disability badminton program will commence in the City of Casey, Melbourne so if you have a disability and are keen to give badminton a go, turn up and have some fun. Racquets and shuttles provided along with sports wheelchair if required. Let people know about this event.

18.01.2022 News from Western Australia Bad Wheels Para Club. This is great to see and as we produce better players will be great to see more competing in able bodied events as provides players with opportunities to compete in tournaments on a regular basis. In what might be a first for Para Badminton in Australia two wheelchair players have entered a mainstream tournament and will try and match it against standing players. Lochan Cowper and Grant Manzoney will play in the D Grade mens d...oubles competition in this weekends LiveLighter WA Open State Championships at Kingsway Indoor Stadium. It will be extremely tough for the Australian WH1/2 champions as not only will they go up against standing players but will also play full court rules. This will be great match practice for both players as they look towards the Oceania Championships early in 2020. See more

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Zashka Gunson from Adelaide who competed in the U15 able bodied tournament last weekend in an event organised by badminton South Australia and made it to the final where she was beaten 21-12, 21-6. Zashka has cerebral palsy , loves playing badminton and is showing everyone what can be achieved. Keep up the training along with the smiles!

17.01.2022 Great to see coaches from four states in Australia engaging in the first disability coaching module being run in this region. This can only help either development of para badminton. Also like to say thanks to the Melbourne para players who attended and were participants in the practical coaching assessments which were run by the coaches as part of the course.

17.01.2022 Tough going in Brazil for Caitlin Dransfield. After contending with a long flight followed by a change of venue on arrival, she woke up to find the area flooded and players could not get to the venue. Day 2 saw Caitlin play a number of matches. She won her mixed game but could not find the winning touch in her first two singles losing 21-7, 21-10 v Sagoy and then 21-26, 21-16 v Chinada. Caitlin won her final singles 21-7 and 21-4 but this was not enough to progress beyond the group stages. In the doubles and mixed she has chances to progress with her final group games being played shortly.

17.01.2022 Amonrat Jamporn from Sydney having some adjustments to her new prosthetic. She is always looking to improve and try new ideas, are you?

17.01.2022 Caitlin on her way to Brazil for first international of 2020. A long trip and hopefully she can achieve some good wins.

16.01.2022 We have six players from three states at the next para international which is being held in Thailand. Only just unpacked bags after the world's! The 6 are Grant Manzoney, lochan Cowper, Caitlin Dransfield, Celine Vinot, Hayden Bognar and Amonrat Ferrario. This morning had a practice session and the venue is impressive along with the stifling heat and humidity.

15.01.2022 Para badminton developing in Africa.

13.01.2022 Caitlins run came to an end in the quarter final losing in straight games. She pushed the experienced German player but could not win those important points in the back part of the game. She also lost in the doubles. Time to return back home after back to back internationals and to prepare for Japan in November.

13.01.2022 A challenging first day at the world's which only saw one win with Celine Vinit winning in two straight games. Tomorrow, we have a number of tough matches but am confident we can build on our miserly one victory

13.01.2022 Dan (UK) is a SL3 player and is aiming for gold next year. We now need to find our future stars who are capable of playing at this standard. A lot of training and dedication. If you know someone who has it in them, let us know.

13.01.2022 Not a great day from a results perspective for day 2 of the competition. We managed three wins in the singles, Grant beating an Italian in three games, Celine winning in two games her SL3 singles along with Corrie who also won his singlesi n two games. Corrie is through to the next round with one more game to still play in his pool. Luke lost his singles and now needs to beat the number two seed in singles to progress. Today will be a long day with Grant first on at 9am and Caitlin playing in the last scheduled matched at 11pm. Plenty of learning for the players!

12.01.2022 We held a Para camp at the new facilities of Paralympics Australia which is on the site of the Essendon Bombers training ground. 16 players attended the camp with a mixture of wheelchair and standing players. This was supported by a number of coaches making appearance to get involved with some of the sessions. Special thanks to both Nigel Isherwood (SA) and Shirley Herbertdon ((NSW) The camp was for the weekend and the players thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had sleepy eyes by this afternoon. #ParalympicsAustralia had two staff work with the players providing fresh ideas for both players and coaches.

12.01.2022 Day3 of the world's. Caitlin and Celine bowed out of the doubles today after being beaten by a good Brazilian pair. Celine won her final singles and is now in the quarter final playing the number one seed. Caitlin in the SL4 classification is also in the quarter final and plays the number one seed. A tough challenge awaits them! Luke won his doubles with an Italian partner who speaks no English and is also in the quarter final ,Great to have three through the group stages. Must mention our mascot who is now the most photographed thing in Basel. Everyone loves him and he is even getting his own accreditation from the organisers

12.01.2022 Last para international of the year which is being held in Japan. The venue is being used for the Paralympics next year. An impressive stadium. All the players had a practice session today and are looking forward to the matches which commence tomorrow. Meetings all attended, now for the real action We did find time for a relaxing stroll in a nearby park.

12.01.2022 The international circuit continues with the China para international. We have one player competing, Caitlin Dransfield. She played her final group match today knowing a win would secure a place in the quarter final. The first match did not go plan losing 21-6. The second game was a lot closer with Caitlin winning 21-18. She then powered through the final game winning 21-13. Tomorrow she plays for a chance of reaching her first semi final.

12.01.2022 A challenging day on court where I believe the umpires do not know letters as they seemed to mix up the W (win) and L(loss)! We only managed one win which was in the women's doubles with Caitlin and Celine. They now need to beat the French pair tomorrow to progress out of the group. Hot and humid here and now time to eat after 11 hours in the badminton hall

12.01.2022 Day 2 great atmosphere as can be seen from video. Caitlin Dransfield won her singles match against a Ukrainian who gave her a few scares but Caitlin came through 21-14 21-16. Grant gave a much improved performance in the second game against his French opponent but lost 21-8. 21-19. Still have a number of games this afternoon which feature most of the Australian players

12.01.2022 Both Celine Vinot and Luke Missen having a couple of days at a training camp in Melbourne in preparation for the world championships next month. Both worked extremely hard and both were desperate to put ice on the legs. Luke also showing the team top which will be worn at the world's.

11.01.2022 Well done Grant. You have achieved a lot in the last few years and have a lot to offer in the next ten years. Clean shaven. A rare sight! Will this make you faster in the chair! Look forward to seeing you at the para camp later this month.

10.01.2022 The planned Para camp was hastily rearranged after being cancelled at Canberra due to the poor air quality. This led to a predominantly wheelchair camp in Melbourne. The camp was supported with the experiences of Gobi Ranganathan from the UK who provided great insights to our players and supported their learning. We also were fortunate to have Lyndon Krausse from Paralympics Australia/ Tennis Australia and coach Vee Choong attend who also provided and shared knowledge to support the players development.

10.01.2022 Meet Ken from Sydney who is keen to push himself to achieve in Para badminton.

10.01.2022 Day 1 of competition which saw all our players in action. The standard of play is improving all the time and we were generally outclassed in many of the matches. Only Caitlin managed a win in her mixed doubles with her partner from France. Tomorrow we have lots of matches and plenty of challenges for our group of players as they seek to learn and become more experienced with playing badminton at this level.

09.01.2022 A hot day in the stadium with plenty of games. Some very good matches with plenty of learning for all players. Tomorrow will see a number of matches including the finals.

09.01.2022 It was great having players from four states able to make this trip for the latest Para camp which was held in Adelaide. A weekend of hard work along with off court learning and a visit to the Barre clinic in Adelaide for a surprise ballet/ balance session. Thanks to #paralympicsaustralia for engaging and working with us at this camp. Thankyou to Badminton South Australia for their support over the weekend., It was appreciated . We continue seeking to drive the sport in the right direction and are grateful for the ongoing support of #badmintonoceania

09.01.2022 More games, more learning, new experiences, new friendships. This is what sport is about. A great tournament. Well done to everyone who participated, you are all winners. Full results can be found online. Well done to New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea for being part of these championships. We need to keep the sport growing and need you all to tell everyone how good this game is for you.

09.01.2022 Caitlin Dransfield had a very close three game match in the women's doubles group game in the Brazil Para international but unfortunately lost the match and will not progress out of the group. In the mixed doubles she reached the last 16 but lost the match bringing an end to her involvement in this event

08.01.2022 Amonrat an SL3 player in training. Great to see her improving and loving the game. As a reminder Oceania Para championships are taking place in February at Ballarat in Victoria and we want all para players participating to help make it a great event.

08.01.2022 Another state has now commenced its Para development squad which is fantastic news and with 7 players signed up, it is exciting times for Para in Victoria. The player pathway opportunities for Para players in Australia are increasing and we encourage more people with disabilities to play this great game, whether socially or competitively.

07.01.2022 Last week the first disability coaching module was completed and today Vee Choong who was on the course put her learning into practice by coaching a group of para players. We also benefited from Eugenia Tanaka coming along to coach the players. I can say the players were shattered after this session but all left with huge smiles. Great to get other coaches involved.

06.01.2022 Invitations are out for the Thailand Para Badminton International which is being played from 14-21/9/19.If interested in competing, let me know via e mail at [email protected]. Details are also available on the BWF website

06.01.2022 A great start to the year for some of our Para players. The following have been successful in either obtaining or renewing their scholarships with various institute of sports structures across Australia. They are Caitlin Dransfield (WAIS- Western Australia), Celine Vinot (VIS - Victoria) and Zashka Gunson, Angelina Melki, Kim Doung along with Richard Davis who are in SASI - South Australia. 05.01.2022 Below is an update from Paralympics Australia regarding Tokyo 2020. With the IOC, IPC, Japanese Government and TOCOG confirming the postponement overnight of the Tokyo 2020 Games, please find below (and attached) a PA statement from our Chair, CEO and Chef de Mission. https://www.paralympic.org.au//paralympics-australia-appl/... While this is very disappointing news, it is clearly the correct decision and will allow everyone to focus on tackling the current health issue and not to worry about competing in a few months time.

05.01.2022 Day 2 at world championships - AM going grey with the stresses of the evening matches. Today's performances were much better. Celine and Caitlin had a walkover in doubles which was a good start. This was followed by Grant winning his singles in two games. In the evening we had Celine playing the number two seed. This went to three sets and Celine could not quite finish it off in the third. For the final game of the evening I definitely went grey! Caitlin lost the first but took the second in convincing style. The third was a see saw game. Caitlin had a big lead by lost the advantage. The game was won at 26-24 ...............by Caitlin. Well done to all today. More exciting games tomorrow.

05.01.2022 Due to the current situation regarding the corona virus situation it has been decided to postpone the planned National Para Championship which was scheduled for the 4th July 2020 It is our intention to reschedule this event for later in the year but this will depend on a number of factors and I will update you when I have further information. Keep yourselves safe and if you are in self isolation ensure you speak to friends etc. Need to look after our mental health and there will be many challenges in the coming months.

05.01.2022 The international events for qualification to 2020 Tokyo have commenced in Turkey with nearly 300 entries which is fantastic and shows the sport is growing globally. On a local level, three of our players are at this event. Grant Manzoney is playing in WH2 event and narrowly lost his group matches, but did show what he is capable of by taking one of the seeded players to three close games . Both Caitlin Dransfield (SL4 ) and Celine Vinot (SL3) in the singles won one of th...eir group games but this was not enough to see them progress out of the group stages. The two girls paired together for the doubles and won two of their group matches and are today playing the number one seeds in the quarter finals. Fingers crossed they can cause an upset. The players are now showing progress and the next event is in Dubai next week which will provide them with new challenges. Luke Missen and Corrie Robinson (NZ) will also be competing in this event.

05.01.2022 Another important step forward in promoting inclusivity with Kim Doung from South Australia, who is participating in the BWF Leve1 coaching course which begins this weekend. Kim is classified as an SL4 player and in addition to playing regularly she is keen to be involved with coaching. We wish her the best for the course.

04.01.2022 Para pathway in Western Australia is in full swing with the recently created state development squad, led by Ryan Lin. In the picture are some of the wheelchair players and players from these squads from across the country will have an opportunity to be considered for the national performance squad which will be established in the coming months. Thanks to #badmintonwa for supporting this program along with #badmintonoceania who continue to provide invaluable support to many of our programs.

04.01.2022 The Oceania Para badminton championships begin on Friday at Ballarat badminton centre. The finals will take place on Saturday. We have over 20 Australians competing which is good and am looking forward to seeing some good matches. If you are in the area, pop in and see the paras in action.

02.01.2022 A number of states have recently been involved in multi sport come and try events organised by #paralympicsaustralia and we have attracted a number of new participants. Our latest program is in Ballarat and this runs every Tuesday from 5.30-6.30pm. Equipment provided so encouraged people with disabilities to come and get involved. Thanks go to #badmintonoceania and #badmintonvictoria for supporting these programs.

02.01.2022 A strong effort against some of the top seeds, but it was the end of the road for Oceania’s players in the knockout stages at the TOTAL BWF Badminton World Cham...pionships 2019 Sukant Kadam [3/4] vs Corrie Robinson 21-8 21-11 Leani Ratri Oktila [1] vs Caitlin Dransfield 21-13 21-8 Parul Parmar [1] vs Celine Vinot 21-14 21-16 #TOTALBWFWC2019 #Basel2019

02.01.2022 Girl power in Adelaide! A training camp was held this weekend for a number of our female players to support their development. Two of the players Kim Doung (SA) and Celine Vinot (VIC) will be going to Spain next week for the Spanish Para international. The Sunday morning session was combined with a come and try for interested persons. We hope to have attracted a few more players and for para in South Australia to grow. Another highlight was attracting interest from local coaches along with a director of an exercise/ physiologist company who will help promote the sport. We also put to use the new shuttle feeder machine and many thanks go to Paralympics Australia for supporting us with the grant.

02.01.2022 Mixed results in last two matches. Corrie Robinson won his singles making us sweat in the second game before winning it 22-20 Gang Manzoney lost in straight sets to the seeded Finnish player who was extremely consistent. Back to hotel for shower and food.

02.01.2022 What a weekend of Para wheelchair badminton in Perth and it was great to have some strong able bodied players also competing at this event. There were some great matches and now a lot of aching muscles! The singles final was between Grant Manzoney and Ian Bridge which turned out to be a very close encounter. Grant put up an amazing fight finally losing 21-19 in the third game. In doubles, Grant once again teamed up with Lochan Cowper and defeated Marcus Robbins and Mark Cunningham in two games. All the Para players showed improvements and special mention must go to 14 year old Michael McDonald who won his first ever game in a tournament which he followed up with a tight three set win against Chris Bonilla to win a second match. A big thanks to all those involved and in particular to Badminton Western Australia for their support.

01.01.2022 A come and try session with a junior group of participants took place in Perth at the weekend. Fun was had by everyone and many are keen for more badminton. Thanks to lochan Cowper and Michael McDonald for helping with the session.

01.01.2022 Day 1 of competition with plenty of good matches. There were some good performances against some established players. Lochan lost both his singles games but played well and gave the Thai player a scare in their match .Amonrat won her second match which is her first win at an international. Grant won his first game 21-12 ,21-11 controlling the game but lost his second game. Both Hayden and Celine lost their matches but played well in patches. Caitlin had us biting our nails. She won the first game 21-18. Lost the second 21-18 and the third was 21-18 to the Thai player. So close! When it rains..........it rains in Bangkok.
