25.01.2022 Now that the weather is heating up, and we are getting closer to fire season, this is a timely reminder that if our trucks don't fit, we can’t go in. Summer is almost here, be bushfire smart, be bushfire safe, and make room for us! Post & Photo Credit: Hay Flat CFS

24.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN IN THE MT LOFTY RANGES ON MONDAY 11th Jan. Take care and stay safe.TOTAL FIRE BAN IN THE MT LOFTY RANGES ON MONDAY 11th Jan. Take care and stay safe.

23.01.2022 Total Fire Bans have been declared for Thursday 19 November 2020 in the following Fire Ban Districts: Mid North - Severe Mount Lofty Ranges - Severe Yorke Penin...sula - Severe Murraylands - Severe Upper South East - Severe Lower South East - Severe Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted. The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow. The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan. FIRE DANGER RATING Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Severe, well prepared and actively defended houses can offer safety during a fire. If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option. In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions. Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions. For further information contact the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1800 362 361 or visit www.cfs.sa.gov.au See more

23.01.2022 Key messaging for bushfire safety in SA given COVID restrictions From midnight tonight, a six-day initial stage of ‘circuit breaker’ restrictions will be implem...ented to protect the South Australian community from the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Review your Bushfire Survival Plan using the up-to-date advice on the SA Health website www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVID-19 UNDER LOCKDOWN During this initial restriction period, you can only leave your home for limited reasons. This includes during a bushfire emergency or if your home is unsafe. Some relocation destinations in Bushfire Safer Places will not be available due to these COVID-19 restrictions. - Cinemas and other public venues will be closed. - Visits to shopping centres are for essential food shopping only If you plan to stay with relatives or friends when you relocate to a Bushfire Safer Place, consider alternative arrangements if your plan is to stay with elderly relatives or immuno-compromised relatives or friends. This will reduce the risk of exposing vulnerable people to COVID-19. If you are in self-quarantine or self-isolation due to COVID-19, you can leave your home if you are in an emergency or your home is unsafe but try to get back into self-isolation as soon as you safely can. During an emergency, if you need to attend an emergency relief centre or a Bushfire Last Resort Refuge, you need to stay outside, alert emergency services (e.g. SAPOL, relief authorities at the location etc) and follow instructions. You must ensure you advise emergency services that you have been forced to leave self-quarantine or self-isolation due to the emergency and that: - you are a close contact of a known COVID-19 case - you have recently tested positive to COVID-19 or if - you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or - you are in self-quarantine because you have recently returned from interstate. UNDER RESTRICTIONS State government restrictions are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This may affect how you follow CFS bushfire safety advice. Leaving early during COVID-19 will be a little different this summer. While COVID-19 restrictions are in place, you can leave your home during an emergency or if your home is unsafe. Consider the following in your leave early plan to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19: During COVID-19 restrictions you may travel if you are doing so as part of your bushfire plan. If you are unwell or have symptoms, isolate yourself from others and ensure you always wear a face covering and get tested as soon as possible. Add to your 'Emergency Kit' - Additional face masks - Hand sanitiser - more than 60% alcohol - Antibacterial wipes Follow SA Health COVID-19 advice - Wear a face mask - Practise good hygiene. Wash or sanitise your hands when you enter someone else’s home, if possible - Do not shake hands, hug or kiss as a greeting - Maintain physical distancing, keep at least 1.5 metres away from others

23.01.2022 We were proud to honour the day this morning with a number of locals at Houghton. Lest we forget.

22.01.2022 Statewide Fire Danger Season commences from midnight tonight. The whole of South Australia will officially be in Fire Danger Season tomorrow, with the final fou...r districts: Adelaide Metropolitan, Kangaroo Island, Lower South East, and Mount Lofty Ranges, commencing their season from midnight tonight. Residents in these areas need to ensure that any fuel reduction burns are completely extinguished and find alternate options for clearing away excess vegetation, such as council green waste disposal. Please make sure your Bushfire Survival Plan is up-to-date and that you are familiar with your Fire Ban district, and what you can and can't do during Fire Danger Season and on days of Total Fire Ban. 22.01.2022 Fireworks safety for New Year South Australia’s fire services are warning the community of the fire risks posed by fireworks, sparklers and barbeques as we ring... in the new year. A majority of public fireworks events in South Australia have been cancelled this year but the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and SA Country Fire Service (CFS) remind the public that there is no excuse to risk using fireworks at home. MFS Community Engagement Officer, Angelo Mastripolito, said the risk of injury or property damage needs to be considered when planning New Year’s Eve parties or gatherings. People using fireworks put themselves, their loved ones and the broader community at risk of serious injury, disfigurement or even death. If caught, offenders also face significant penalties or civil damages. Sparklers can be used only if there are no Total Fire Bans declared but parents must always supervise children using them, MFS Community Engagement Officer Mastripolito said. Warm, dry conditions are predicted across much of the state, bringing potential bushfire danger. South Australians are reminded that ‘sky lanterns’ a paper lantern that is set alight to make it float in the air are banned from use in the state. Sky lanterns pose a high fire risk if it were to land on dry grass or become trapped under the eaves of a building. CFS State Duty Commander, Sam Quigley said the use of illegal fireworks heightens the risk of bushfires starting during Fire Danger Season, but that there are also other steps we can take ensure everyone has a safe New Year’s Eve. We do not want New Year celebrations turning to tragedy because of one irresponsible act. Local parks or backyard parties are popular this time of year. While you can use smokers and wood fire ovens on days where there are no Total Fire Bans in place, please make sure you have a fire extinguisher or plenty of water on hand to stop any fires from spreading, CFS State Duty Commander Quigley said. The MFS and CFS also remind the community to check for leaks or breaks in gas lines and valves before firing up the barbeque over the festive period. When in doubt, replace hoses and/or the gas cylinder.

22.01.2022 As expected, there is a TOTAL FIRE BAN rated EXTREME in the Mount Lofty Ranges tomorrow Friday 27th November. Please ensure any fires today are totally extinguished by midnight and please take care tomorrow. Stay safe, stay cool and stay hydrated.

21.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN IN MT LOFTY RANGES TOMORROW PLEASE TAKE CARE

20.01.2022 Fire and Emergency Services Regulations strengthened to lessen the risk of ignitions: Several amendments will be introduced in the Fire and Emergency Services R...egulations from 1 March 2021 to help reduce the risk of bushfires in South Australia. The Fire and Emergency Service Regulations 2005 is the legislation that regulates the responsibilities of the Country Fire Service, and the restrictions and conditions that are enforceable during the Fire Danger Season and Total Fire Bans, CFS Director of Preparedness Brett Loughlin said. Amendments to the Regulations will provide greater details in the definitions of equipment that can and cannot be used during Total Fire Bans and conditions in which they can be operated under. We will see the size of minimum clear spaces required to operate hot tools, such as grinders and oxy cutters, extended from 4 metres to 10 metres, Mr Loughlin said. This will further help to reduce the risk of fires starting from sparks or hot metals emanating from hot tools. Such tools may still be used within fully enclosed structures. We have also listened to the concerns of the construction industry and have further refined the definition of cutting tools to better reflect the actual risks associated with carrying out certain activities, Mr Loughlin said. Apart from changes to hot tool usage, initial expiation notice fees will also increase from $315 to $473 for people found not adhering to Fire Danger Season restrictions. Several parts of South Australia have been ravaged by bushfires in the past two years and although some of the larger fires were not preventable, many fires were. The amendments to the Regulations will further help the CFS, South Australian Police and Local Government Fire Prevention Officers curb irresponsible behaviour during our most dangerous times of the year, and in turn lessen the risk of fires starting when they are most difficult to control, Mr Loughlin said. The SA Fire and Emergency Services Regulations 2021 document can be found here - https://www.legislation.sa.gov.au//Fire%20and%20Emergency%

15.01.2022 Fire Danger Ratings are an indicator of how dangerous a bushfire could be if it did occur. It is not a predictor of how likely a bushfire is to occur. Do you know what the different ratings mean?

03.01.2022 A grass fire? With a Watch and Act Message? In May? You weren’t seeing things today, and it was far from a drill, with over 80 CFS volunteers attending a grass ...fire at Gould Creek. The fire was reported at 12:10 and was caused by sparks from an angle grinder, burning through 8 hectares of hilly and inaccessible terrain, before they were able to halt it at 2:45 this afternoon. Even though it’s cold and we’re about to hit winter, we haven’t had much rain across the state and fires can still very quickly catch and get a run on.
