25.01.2022 Today I wanted to share my thoughts with you all on mum guilt. For all my fellow mothers out there, we have a tendency to feel guilty for a lot of things, like it’s in built in all (or most) mothers. We feel guilty for working, as it takes time away from our kids, we feel guilty for taking time for ourselves, once again we feel it takes time away from our kids, we feel guilty if we don’t serve a nutritious dinner, we feel guilty when our kids are emotional and we continually ...wonder if we are doing a good job of being a mum. When we let mum guilt take over our minds, our kids sense that and this gives them the power over us. It allows them to see through us and gives them the power to use that (in the form of tantrums, not listening or whatever their fall back mechanism is) and makes us feel even more guilty of doing the things we want to or need to do. Our kids will be fine, they will grow and learn and become adults one day but we can’t give them the best version of ourselves if we are feeling guilty for taking time out and/or doing the things we need to do in order to fulfil our lives and theirs. So make a lazy dinner, go to that yoga class, take a night away, do whatever you need to do to feel like yourself and ditch the guilt. 22.01.2022 Let’s talk about burnout. Most people who are burnt out do not even realise that they are. This is because when you are chronically burnt out, you become accustomed to using energy created by anxiety, which is part of your body’s stress response, so you may often feel energetic and feel productive. Chronically living off the energy created by your body’s stress response, means that you are living in burnout mode and eventually this will manifest itself as physical illness (an...y type of physical illness but most commonly autoimmune diseases, thyroid conditions and gut health issues), however because people become so used to living this way, they usually don’t connect the dots between burnout and their physical health issues, so they use medications to mask the symptoms and continue living In burnout mode. People living in chronic burnout mode often have the inability to relax, the need to constantly find something to do and difficulty sleeping, although you may be opposite and be feeling fatigued but want to be constantly doing something. You can break this cycle, through a combination of strategies including herbal medicine, meditation, energy healing, taking time for yourself and nutrition. This is usually subconscious because we have been doing this for so long and never taken the time to think about the impact it will have on our day and our mental health. So tomorrow when you wake up, be the conscious creator of an amazing day for yourself. Start to realise that you are in control of everything that happens in your day. 13.01.2022 Have you ever heard people saying health starts in the gut? Your gut is not only responsible for the digestion of your food but also absorbing the nutrients that will support all of our body’s functions. This includes energy production, hormone balance and detoxification. More than half of your immune system lives in your gut. So if your gut health is poor, you will literally be unable to fight of infections, causing you low immunity and constant illness.... Your gut is also responsible for hormone production, which keeps your body running efficiently. If your gut health is poor, you are likely to experience hormone imbalances. 07.01.2022 Did you know that you could be suffering from burnout and not even know it? Burnout is a state of exhaustion, where a person has been chronically stressed over many years and is living from the energy of their stress hormones. This causes many illnesses and difficult to diagnose symptoms for a person. The reason for this is that the symptoms are different for everyone and burnout creates havoc for your body, so it’s often accompanied by secondary illnesses which are easier t...o diagnose. Some common symptoms are also opposites of each other and seem counterintuitive to burnout (for example one person might be fatigued and another may have excess energy). Some common symptoms include autoimmune diseases, insomnia, gut health issues (bloating, IBS, constipation, nausea), skin issues including dermatitis and eczema, fatigue or excessive energy, menstrual problems, brain fog and thyroid problems. Often people with burnout, find it difficult to get answers to there health issues and tend to just live with it and work around it, believing that this is just the cards they were dealt. 06.01.2022 Another shout out to my fellow mothers. We are all stressed, simply due to the demands of running a household and raising children. It is demanding even if we are doing an amazing job of it. I just wanted to remind you all, that you are doing an amazing job, your kids still love you even if you get it wrong sometimes and it’s ok to have a break. I also wanted to talk about some of the signs and symptoms of chronic stress. Chronic stress may go unnoticed because it happens ove...r time and we adapt to it as it increases and the wide variety of symptoms are different for everyone. In chronic stress, our bodies find it difficult to lower our stress hormones because we are constantly exposed to stress. This means that our body’s priority is decreasing stress hormones, so we become at risk of literally anything else because fighting off other infections is not the body’s priority in a state of stress. It also means we are out of balance placing us at higher risk of other health issues including gut health, thyroid conditions, sleep disorders and much more. The common signs are feeling like you can’t relax, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, feeling energetic even though you’re lacking sleep and emotional instability. This is not an exhaustive list of the signs, only some and although some signs are opposite of others eg. Feeling fatigued and having energy, the signs are different for each person.
