08.02.2022 Scouting isn’t just for the kids, adults can get involved too! #ReadySetScoutTogether #ScoutsQLD

25.01.2022 Another busy day on camp. The Scouts showed the cubs how to do a square lashing which was followed by chariot races. Then the Cubs had a go at building a shelter while the Scouts constructed a hot air balloon for tomorrow morning. We also covered building a fire, played a lot of games, built a Davinci catapult, cooked cakes on the fire and cooked dinner on the BBQ. The patrol groups have been practising some skits in their free time which they will be performing tonight.

25.01.2022 Scouts: Our opening game was a slow motion race, you had to keep moving all the time but slowest won. To make it harder rather than slow motion running it had to be slow motion skipping or lunges! For the main program this week we carried on with the same program as last week, with the Scouts getting to complete the final activity they had left over. So it was VR Flying, drones and the physics of flight again. As the physics of flight section took longer than expected we also... spent 15 mins going over the Coanda effect and Bernoulli principle, and how some experiments commonly done to show one are actually showing the other. We ended the night with a review of everything we had covered and researched over the last 2 weeks. Specifically they had been looking in to how drones actually fly, the difference between and drone and a helicopter and of course the laws on drone flying in Australia. A fun few nights, and some new experiences for many with the VR and drone flying. Next week we need to prepare for camp, which includes getting our final Scouts in Action Flight activities ready.

24.01.2022 Cub Scouts: With it being a holiday weekend in South East Queensland our numbers were a little down this evening, however for those that could come it was a great night with requests to run for another hour! We had two Scouts in to help tonight so we started the night by playing a game one of them created for their Grey Wolf badge while in Cub Scouts a year ago. It was a variation of 'Traffic Lights' but with a Jungle Book theme. It was then on to the main activity, which wa...s going to take up the rest of the night. The Cub Scouts, along with their Scout and Parent helper, had to design and build a machine that would launch a foil ball. So tonight we were not working with true flight, rather it was about projectiles. The original plan was to launch and catch the ball, but we added in the challenge of greatest distance and greatest height as well. There was a specific selection of items they could build from (cups, rulers, pencils, paper, rubber bands etc) and they had about 40 minutes to design, build and test. The Scouts that came in were the old Sixers of Red and White Six so the patrols for the night were in honour of these. White Patrol did manage to catch the ball in their catcher during the testing phase, but during the actual competition nobody managed. For distance White Patrol managed 4.3m while Red Patrol got 4.9m. For height White Patrol got it to the ceiling, Red Patrol was a little lower. There was a lot of ingenuity, and team work when it mattered. For instance White Patrol started off with an overly complex idea but in the end combined this with an idea from one of the newest Cub Scouts to create a reliable working launcher. We will be carrying on with flight again next week!

22.01.2022 Scouts: Our opening game, as decided by the Scouts, was Kitty Cat Careers a sort of charades type game that also involved pretending to be cats. The lesson from tonight’s review was to read what a game actually is and not randomly select something from the folder! However it was certainly amusing to watch! The rest of the night was all about carrying on with Scouts in Action month 'Flight', we had 3 separate areas for the Scouts and they got to complete 2 areas on the night.... The area they missed out on will be covered next week. Area 1: VR Flying They took it in turns to fly a microlight in Ultrawings virtual reality using an Oculus Quest, while the other person looked on using an iPad. They were able to learn about the rudder, elevator and ailerons (yaw, pitch and roll). They did a simulated take-off, some general flying and attempts at landing. Area 2: Drone Flying We had 3 drones available, all indoor types and of a toy grade. Each person got to fly for about 8-9 minutes, they could investigate how the drones move, and how the drones orientation impacted the ease of flying it. Afterwards they spent some time researching drone laws in Australia and the specifics of how a drone flys and in what ways this differs to a helicopter Area 3: The Physics of flight Here the Scouts got to look at the Bernoulli Principle and Coanda Effect, they were also to spend time investigating the Magnus Effect. Area 3 took more time than expected and in general the Scouts only got to look at the Magnus effect, so we will look at the other aspects and discuss what we have learnt in general when we do our review next week, after everyone has had a go in the area they missed this week. A big thanks to our adult helper, it would not of been possible to run the evening without additional help. There are a number of images of the nights event attached, the videos will be uploaded separately.

21.01.2022 Cub Scouts: We had several events from last weeks Mini Olympics left so we carried on with that to start the evening. This week we have: Balloon Torch Race ‘Situps’ with Mr Sit and Mr Stand Sockput... Ice Hockey with an air puck Bean Bag Biathlon Ski Slalom During this last event, which took place outside, the hall was prepared for a Grey Wolf presentation. This was to be the last Grey Wolf at Paradise Point from the old program, and also the first time we had seen the new badge and a frankly awesome certificate that comes with it! A hearty congratulations from everyone, it is going to be quite a while before we see another one!

21.01.2022 During the last camp those that attended voted on what the last night of the year would be, a Messy Night... without doubt one of the most fun nights of the year. However it was not to be with the weather turning against us in the final week we had to postpone messy night to next year and instead an indoor Christmas Games night organised. It will not be long before we return in 2022, but until then we wish everyone a merry Christmas, great holidays and a happy New Year!

21.01.2022 Cub Scouts: We started Scouts in Action month with a game of Musical Airports, though without the music as the sound system wasn’t hooked up. This gave the Cub Scouts a chance to add their own engine noise sound track if they wanted. We then had 5 minutes covering the sheetbend before carrying on with the themed activities. We discussed how we might use Scouts in Action to cover an SIA STEM badge, and also talked about what flight is and the different types that exist. We did... some experiments to show the Bernoulli principle, and in actual fact the Coanda effect too though we kept it simple given how complicated the mechanics of flight are! We then played Air Traffic Control, where 2-3 Cub Scouts each had to verbally guide 1-2 other blindfolded Cub Scouts each around the room between airports. We had a review of the game between each round, and ended up playing for about twice as long as originally planned as they wanted to keep playing over and over. Obviously Cub Scouts could not collide with each other, but they also could not pass within 1.5m otherwise they got a near miss. Lastly for the evening we gave out all the new program badges, including the first two which had actually been earned by our Cub Scouts rather than obtained through transfer from the old program to the new. It was also a big night for our oldest Cub Scout as he got his Gold Boomerang and Sixer badge, the last ones we shall ever be giving out! He has been the defacto Sixer all year but with badge problems and other things it has taken until now for him to get the badge. Everybody will be moving over to the Patrol system after the upcoming camp, and we are looking out for new Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol leader to take up their positions. Next week we shall be carrying on with flight, not true flight this time but projectile flight, but we also have a Grey Wolf resource to take a look at.

21.01.2022 Another combined night this week in the big hall again, work looks to be progressing on our usual hall so hopefully in 2021 we will be back to normal! Originally this was going to be our last night of the year so it was all planned around Christmas fun, and lots of games. We had a balloon pop, snowball relay, reindeer poo game and many more. Next week we hope to have the swim night we had to cancel previously, hopefully the weather will be better this time!

20.01.2022 Cub Scouts: There was a lot to get through this week! We started the night with a Going Up activity, for this one we had a 'the floor is lava' crossing for the Cubs to navigate. The Cub Scouts used carpet tiles while for the return journey the Scouts used chairs. We wished our departing Cub good luck in Scouts and everyone gave left foot taps. One of the Cub Scouts then ran the first game of the night, they had written a short talk about the Australian flag and made up a rela...y game based upon it. We then did a quick SIA badge review for one of the Cub Scouts who had brought in a time capsule. An interesting collection of pictures and items, along with some thoughts on how life has been during Covid times. It was then time for a challenge, with the Cubs and Scouts working together to solve a river crossing puzzle. With 3 Cub Scouts and 3 Scouts needing to cross the river with a boat big enough for only 2, and a rule that there could never be more Scouts than Cub Scouts on one bank of the river. It took them a while to get going, as to start with they were trying to solve the entire puzzle in one go. After a little adult intervention it was suggested they consider the puzzle one move at a time, as then they could see that each time there were only limited choices and most, if not all, of those choices would result in breaking a rule of the game. As such it wasn't long before they were solving it, and it was particularly good to see our future Cub Scout Patrol leader putting forward some solutions early on. After this we played a game of Steal the Bacon, with 2 Cub Scouts vs 1 Scout. A little unfair on the Scouts, but they still won a few rounds. Finally we did a review of the camp that was just completed, covered a couple of plan areas that got missed out, and also looked forward towards the weekends hike. During the closing we presented Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol leader badges to two of the Cub Scouts, well done to them! Next week we have a number of Science activities to complete, and we should do the review of the Scouts in Action Flight month STEM SIA badge we started.

17.01.2022 The girls on cooking duty tonight

17.01.2022 Colour Run time! We certainly have a few colourful Cubs and Scouts now!

16.01.2022 Scouts: Another night where we didn't take many photos. However we started off with a game of Jedi Mind Trick and then got down to unpacking the camping gear and putting it back in to storage. We then did a camp review and started the process of trying to get some SIA/Milestone ideas out of the Scouts. It's still a very new concept for them, coming up with ideas themselves. To help them we suggested those that are stuck look through the old Green Scouts book and use some of the old badge activities as a stepping stone to creating something new. We will move this process forward over the coming weeks and see about getting everyone on to something for over the holidays.

14.01.2022 A few highlights from today’s hike.

14.01.2022 A few more photos from the weekend camp that didn't make it on to Facebook over the weekend itself. Lots of flight related activities over the weekend as we brought to a close Scouts in Action Month.

14.01.2022 Cub Scouts: The 2020 Olympics in Japan may have been cancelled but the Mini Olympics at Paradise Point Scouts was still on! A slightly rocky start to the evening as there was perhaps a little too much excitement in the air but we soon gone settled down with an LED Torch Relay to open the games. This was followed by: Bean bag toss points for throwing bean bags in to buckets Foot Race which team had the longest foot span... Head ball relay race pushing a ball with the top of your head only Discus paper plate throwing Javelin plastic straw throwing Gymnastics how far could each team stretch Hopping Race with Scout scarf on one foot hoping on the other Walking Race Football between the knees, this turned in to a jumping race Ski Race quick trip outside to race on the 4 person skis We ran out of time to complete all the events so we will run a few more at the start of next week. Thanks to the parent helpers, its impossible to run such involved nights without your help.

13.01.2022 Cub Scouts: Our last week of Scouts in Action but we started the night with a game of everyone is it tag, organised and run by one of the Cub Scouts. We then had a brief look at the Bowline knot, everyone managed it in the end but we will need a few more goes to get it locked in to memory. This was followed by some crafting as we built a Mars Helicopter, which we launched from the stage. We discussed how this design could both slow down falling and if powered could create lif...t. A game of Pilot, Pilot, Plane followed... which was effectively Duck, Duck, Goose. We also had a go at demonstrating the magnus effect with the cups the Scouts stuck together a week or two ago. It was hard to get the spin just right but we managed a couple of times. Lastly we played Flight Attendant Relay, where the Cub Scouts had to run back and forth collecting more and more Cups for the passengers on the plane. It would be a good game to play with real cups of water on a wet night one day. That brought to a close our weekly Scouts in Action Month activities. There were a few more things completed over the weekend at camp, but those have been talked about in earlier posts. At our next meeting we will do the review and see if we have achieved our goals for the SIA Stem badge we planned to complete during our 4 weeks & a camp.

13.01.2022 The calm before the storm. The first day of Water Camp will be getting underway soon...

12.01.2022 Cub Scouts: Tonight we had quite a few reviews to get through for OAS & SIA activities left over from last term and completed over the holidays. We kept these down to a short session of 4-5 minutes and filled the rest of the night with games. We warmed everyone up with a 50m run, skipping on the spot and then 50m return run. Those that wanted to then did a straight 100m race. As it was the opening night of the term we had a quick look at the Unit Code and also some new drawin...gs to go with it. We followed this with Crab Football and then reviews of the OAS stages recently completed by a number of Cub Scouts. We then quickly went to in to a Worm Tail game, where the head of the worm had to try and catch the tail. As everyone was perhaps a little over excited we moved on after a few rounds and played the Bean Game. The leader would call out different types of beans and the Cubs would have to get in to a relevant pose: Broad bean- stand with legs wide apart and arms out String bean- hands together held up high above your head Runner bean- run on the spot Jelly bean- pretend to wobble like jelly on the spot Baked bean- lay on your back with hands and feet in the air French bean- say ooh, la, la! Two Cubs had brought in COVID Time Capsules they created so they shared with us some things they had put in them before we played Wind and Sails. The direction of the wind was called out and the Cubs had to sail in the direction the wind would take them. Pretty easy for the basic N,E,S,W but it becomes trickier once NE, SE, SW & NW were added in! Last game of the night was a Cub choice and they played Wink Murder, we only have about 5 minutes but everyone got a go at being either the detective or the murderer! Several Cub Scouts brought in ideas for games and activities for future weeks. We will most likely start with those next week, though a couple will probably end up happening next year even. Not only is suggesting and running activities part of the Milestone awards it is also very useful for the leaders too!

12.01.2022 These are the photos from our last camp of the year, some of these will have be posted during the camp itself but many are new. They include: Making a water filter, and a quick recap on ways to find North OAS Pioneering construction of a Catapult... Slippery Twister Duck Duck Splash Colour Run Wet Sponge Relay Water Balloon fight Paintball Target Practice Wet Bing Slip & Slide Fill the Bottle It was a great weekend and final camp of the year with lots of fun activities. Time to recharge the batteries now ready for 2021!

11.01.2022 Scouts: Carrying on from last weeks going up in Cub Scouts we had a welcome to section and a reconfirmation of the Scout Promise and Law tonight. Afterwards one of the Scouts had some up with a variation of 'Everyone is It' tag so the played that for 10 minutes. The rest of the evening was all about knots, with the emphasis being it was the Scouts jobs to make it fun. They all randomly got a knot or lashing which was one of the core knots in the old Scout program. They then h...ad to practise that knot, knows its uses and come up with a game that involved that knot which could be played with all the others. The practice section took quite a while, some of the newer members for instance have never done a Diagonal Lashing before so with the aid of some books they were learning as they went. We got through about half the knots in games by the end of the night before we ran out of time, and so we will complete this next week. It would certainly be a good idea for everyone to remind themselves of diagonal and perhaps square lashings over the week. Also we were doing the 1 handed bowline which not everyone had mastered by the end of the night. Keep practising it, once it 'clicks' you will never forget it! Remember the important thing is to make the knot over your hand and never your wrist! With that it was the end of the night again, it is amazing how fast 2 hours can fly by. Hopefully we will see a few of the Scouts this weekend for the big hike, though the weather might not be singing the right tune again so keep an eye out for emails & SMS about that.

11.01.2022 Scouts: With camp coming up we had rather a lot to get through, so busy we forgot to take photos this week! The first half of the night most of the Scouts were packing the patrol box and getting equipment ready for camp, which is this coming weekend. At the same time one of our Cub Scouts was busy going through the program essentials and learning about the difference between Cubs and Scouts. Once that was done we took a brief look at the hot air balloon that will be built up ...on camp and how to build the air rockets. Then all of a sudden parents were arriving and it was time to pack up!

09.01.2022 Scouts: Over the holidays the Scouts were tasked with coming up with activity ideas for this term, as well as milestone assists/leads they could complete. As such much of this week was spent going through future plans. However first there were some games to play. It was Scout choice so first they had a go with Wink Murder, it was semi successful but with only 6 if them there there was only so much play they could get out of the game. They then gave Telephone a go, which they ...were adamant wouldn't work because how could the message go wrong with only 6 of them. They gave it a go still and soon found out that even with only 6 people passing on a message can easily go wrong... very very wrong... After this we mainly talked through ideas, in some cases helping expand suggested milestones in to full SIA activities, and in others discussing how we will move forward with the plans. So with a little luck we will be building chin-up bars and a catapult as a Bushcraft Pioneering project. Having a swim night and BBQ over at the local beach with enclosure and taking the Cub Scouts on a hike along the Broadwater one evening when our hall is closed for repairs. Next week the plans for the build projects will be prepared ready for a build in the following weeks. There was also a good suggestion of a hike to the natural glow worm caves. This is unlikely to be possible during our regular meetings so we will push for this either as a weekend activity or perhaps can be done during a camp early next year.

08.01.2022 Shortly before the end of term the group visited the Gold Coast Performance Centre at Runaway Bay. It was the first time in 2 years given all the issues recently so there were a number of activities to complete, but mostly lots of fun to be had.

07.01.2022 First night of camp and after the tents went up and we went through the camp safety and hygiene rules we built our paper rockets for tomorrow. We have three mini patrols for the camp with most activities happening within these bubbles. After the rockets were built we had a little super and hot chocolate, then played a few rounds of taskmaster games. More of that tomorrow. Early start in the morning and a full day of activities ahead.

07.01.2022 Scouts: A new game to start the night with the Scouts learning how to play Spoons. I think we have found a new favourite! We then talked about how to minimise impact and waste on a camp, this will eventually lead in to a OAS Camping 4 element where they have to put this knowledge in to practice. Lastly we started to get things out ready for camp. With this being a combined camp, with potentially larger numbers that we have had in recent years along with COVID space restrictio...ns, we had to check some of the tents that have not been used for a while. This is where things got tricky, with the Scouts unable to work out how to put one of the tents up. However no discredit to them as the adult leaders couldn’t work it out either! If anybody has instructions or guide for a 12 person DMH Kimberley please let us know!!! The more traditional sized 6 person tents went up without a hitch and we have enough for the camp sorted. See more

07.01.2022 Cub Scouts: We started with a game of jump rope, except this was Jump Helicopter Blade... a Scouts in Action: Flight month variation. Everyone had a go at being the blade, and what was planned to be a 5 minute game ended up running for about 15 minutes as it was too much fun. After this we had a presentation about a resource made for a Grey Wolf badge, this was a Knots Board. Really very useful as the knots are ones the Scouts use too so this resource is going to get some use.... The Cub Scout in question also did his reflection tonight so everything done and paperwork is being sent off. As we were already sitting we had another short presentation about a Camp Blanket, and got to see a lot of badge that will be going on it as well as several that are already on. Blankets are currently in stock at the Scout store, or if you already have blankets at home they just need to be majority wool based if they are to be used around an actual camp fire. See the official Scouts Australia ones here: https://scoutshop.com.au/products/camp-blanket The rest of the night was back to flight based activities. We looked at how a fluid tries to follow a surface, the same as air follows over a wing. Then we built Hoop planes. These worked far better than was expected so while originally we were going to build some other craft we ended up flying these for the rest of the evening. The other crafts we will do in the next meeting.

06.01.2022 Cub Scouts: A bit of fun for the end of term with an idea inspired by one of the Cub Scouts. After playing Night in the Museum last week we decided to run a Glow Night, time to break out the glow sticks and black lights! We started with some glow in the dark bowling, had a few rounds of shadow tag, played Grandmas Footsteps and ended with Shadow Charades. It was somewhat of a surprise that Grandmas Footsteps was a favourite by most of the Cubs, and as such we ended up playing... it 13 times! We ended the night with some glowing Cup cakes, simply made with Tonic water so they would shine under the black lights. Photos of the night are below, there will be some videos to follow in the comments below.

06.01.2022 Scouts: We warmed up for the night with Mr Sit and Mr Stand, a story based game where the Scouts simply have to do the opposite of what the story says. Well simple in theory! Afterwards we had a short discussion and approval session for an SIA badge one of the Scouts wanted to complete as well as a few OAS completions that needed signing off. Then it was time for the main even, the OAS Bushcraft Pioneering L4 build. The plans were printed out, the equipment needed had already... been chosen the previous week so what could go wrong? We mostly left the Scouts to themselves for this and just looked on, one of them leading and the rest ideally needed to follow and use the instructions they had already come up with last week. We did have to interrupt a couple of times, we would hope when they do their second build they remember the few mistakes made this time and don’t repeat them. The issues they encountered during the build did make for a very good review session at the end. Overall the construction was solid, it withstood the mass of a leader actively trying to topple it, and the A-frames were some of the sturdiest we have seen in a long time. The next build will also consist of a similar construction frame, but will be expanded to include a number of extra elements as well. It will be even more important to build a solid frame next time, so it was a great stepping stone build.

04.01.2022 Cub Scouts: We had a science themed night this week, with the major activities designed and run by the Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. We started off with a relay race where they had to match a picture of some scientific equipment against its name and description of how it's used. There were different techniques used by the two teams and we talked about the pros and cons of those in the review afterwards. It was then time for the experiments! We broke in to two gro...ups and swapped around after about 15 minutes. Group 1: Looked at how to grow seeds, what they need to sprout and then grow to maturity. We planted some grass heads in small Groot shaped pots and we will take a look at how well they have grown after the school holidays. This group also then looked at how oxygen is used up by a candle, followed by a chat about how a candle actually works. In particular how a candle changes from solid to liquid and then gas. Group 2: Investigated more the changes of matter states from solid to liquid and then gas. This one done by heating and meting an ice cube over a tealight. They also look a look at the always favourite vinegar and baking soda reaction experiment, with the hydrogen in the vinegar reacting with sodium and bicarbonate to form carbonic acid and sodium acetate. Or as the Cub Scouts put it lots of bubbles! This was also ostensibly our volcano demonstration for the night, which was followed up with a brief talk to everyone about how volcanoes and earthquakes happen. While the above talk was given by our Assistant Patrol Leader the group leader hid a number of small battery lights around the hall. Upon going back in the Cub Scouts had to find these lights. We looked at how the lights were visible with the hall lights on, and then turned them off to show how much more visible they were now. There were also two secret lights which could now just be seen, these had been on the entire night and nobody had noticed. This gave a good indication of how light pollution can impact our view of the night sky. With very little time left an open offer to the Cub Scouts was given to play a game of their choice, which turned out to be 'Night at the Museum'. As Baloo didn't know the rules to this game one of the Cub Scouts explained it and they played it with the lights off for about 10 minutes before we had to pack up for closing and final review.

04.01.2022 #ReadySetScout will give you the adventures you need to make your friends jealous (unless they are Scouts with you! ;) ) #scoutsqldscoutsqld.com.au

03.01.2022 Time to launch the hot air balloons. Mother nature decided to make the morning extra warm but we still go a nice flight out of both.

03.01.2022 A combined night in the big hall this week, and we certainly learnt the Cub Scouts can out run the Scouts over the course of an evening! We started off with a quick group game where they all had to quickly get in to mini patrols with the number of people called out by the leader, with the added rule there must always be at least 1 Cub and 1 Scout. Following on we broke up for a couple of activities, the Cub Scouts were making seed bombs in an activity being run by one of thei...r own as a milestone lead. While half the Scouts packed away some tents for next weeks camp and the other half worked on what we will do at the swim night next week. We then had a brief chat with all Scouts about camp before joining the two groups back together. The rest of the night was all about games. They played fishing nets, where they could only catch the same type of fish as themselves i.e. Cub or Scout. Elbow tag and Hunter, Eagle or Rabbit a variation of rock, paper or scissors but played as a unit. We were going to end the night with Wink Murder but one of the Scouts suggested we play Heads Down, Thumbs Up which was a new game to the leaders but all the Cubs, Scouts and parent helpers knew about! As such the floor was thrown open and the Cubs and Scouts ran the game until it was time to go home. A very good choice and its always nice when they put forward ideas like that as we certainly don’t know every game out there! Next week we are combined again, but this time we meet down near the swimming enclosure at 18:30.

03.01.2022 Cub Scouts: With the renovations coming this was to be our last Thursday night in our usual hall for 2020! From now on we will be doing things either in the big hall on a Tuesday, or out and about on Thursdays. The opening game of the night was devised and run by one of the Cubs, it was basically a sneaking up game combined with chase and tag. We did a review afterwards and proposed a few rule changes that would make it fairer for next time we play. Talking about fairness we... followed up with an activity to highlight just that. The Cubs were split up in to 2 teams for a tug of war, but initially deliberately teamed up in a very unfair way. Before they started to pull they were asked if this was fair, most said it was not though a few on the bigger team decided it was. Our Patrol Leader was then tasked with regrouping everyone so it was more fair and we ran the first round. The Cubs then tweaked the teams for a second and third round so that in the end, while one team still won, it was pretty even. We had a short review afterwards where we talked about while it’s always good to try your hardest its important that we don’t ‘win’ at the expense of others. With those activities out of the way we broke up in to several groups. Two Cubs were putting up a tent without adult help, though they did have a Scout on hard to guide. Meanwhile a couple of other groups went outside with to put up some other tents with adult guidance. At the same time one new member was going through the Welcome to Scouting and Welcome to Section program. Normally this would get spread out a bit more, but what with losing access to the hall we decided to get through as much as possible so it did not get left until 2021!

03.01.2022 Design it, build it, race it! In Scouts young people from 5 years old have the opportunity to try new things, learn whilst doing and have a whole lot of fun! #ReadySetScout #GoCarting #JoeyScouts

03.01.2022 This Thursday we had a mixed group with most of the Cubs and a few of the Scouts for a short hike along the Broadwater. Not many photos I am afraid, it was a bit dark, but it was a nice refreshing evening with a lot of chat and some great views. Next week we have a combined night in the big hall on Tuesday starting at 7pm on 17-11-2020. https://www.relive.cc/view/v7O9y8N4BQO

01.01.2022 Scouts: Tonight's opening game was Walking Soccer. We started with even teams but eventually it became 4 on 1, and the 1 still won 4 goals to 2 in the final round. Oh and yes the Scouts may need a lesson in the difference between walking and running... After this the Scouts planned out a couple of OAS Bushcraft Level 4 Pioneering builds, one being a chin-up bar and the second a catapult. They needed to plan what equipment they would need, knots required and consider safety aspects of the build itself. The catapult will be built on a future camp, but the chin-up bar will hopefully get built in the coming weeks outside the hall.

22.12.2021 Cub Scouts: With other activities coming up this would turn out to be our last regular night in the hall. As such we tidied up the lose ends on a few OAS activities from earlier in the year. We also wrote some Christmas cards to go in to the time capsule to be opened before Christmas 2024. For games we played some old favourites by request, with The Bean game and a new version of Captains Coming being run. There was also time to run Barnyard which has been on the backup games list since June but we never had time to play!

17.12.2021 Scouts: After a few weeks of postponement we finally got the VR night underway. With two head units borrowed this time we were able to offer a little variety to the night. One unit was running Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. This is a puzzle game where the person in VR has to describe the puzzles and items they see while the rest of the team have the 'bomb disposal manual' to solve the puzzles. It requires good descriptive dialogue between the two parties as neither can solve the puzzles alone. On the second unit the Scouts got to try out some more interactive games like Beat Saber.
