25.01.2022 #AviationThisWeek - Saturday - This was cool - Qantas flew right over us near Noosa. 3000 feet, or 2500 feet above us. (Why this is cool is that Qantas normally flies at 35000 ft and this was a special Joy Flight or Sight-seeing flight from a JET!!) Qantas was just trying to compete with us!! However, we fly at 500ft. ... Passengers on Thursday were treated to F18s flying BELOW us and whales breaching near Noosa on the same flight. I wish I had pics so you would believe me!! https://simpleflying.com/qantas-787-takes-off/

09.01.2022 THIS WEEK IN AVIATION HISTORY - One of the first recorded seaplane landings on Pumicestone Passage was in 1928; a Super-Marine Seagull III - an aircraft larger than our Wilga - flew in with Capt. E.V. Johnston, Superintendent of Commonwealth Aerodromes to inspect the racecourse reserve for aeroplane landings and the channel for seaplane anchorage. Capt. Johnston, Mr. O.J. Howard, Chief Inspector in Aircraft, and Corp. Souter landed after 9am Sunday 7 October opposite Tripcon...y's and were officially welcomed by the Chairman and Landsborough Shire Councillors, gentlemen from [Caloundra] Progress Association and Landsborough Progress Association. The news article in the Nambour Herald is a delightful depiction of the social protocol of the day "Capt. Johnston having expressed himself satisfied that the channel was in every respect safe and sheltered for super-marines, the party were taken by car to the racecourse reserve, and again Capt. Johnston expressed unqualified approval, and said that the reserve could even be used for landings in its natural state. The visitors were then taken round to other points of interest in Moffat's Headland, the 'Queen of the Colonnies’ tree, the lagoon, etc." The visitors stayed overnight at an "up-to-date hotel" and enjoyed a "sumptuous repast". "Hundreds of people arrived during the day from up-country to see the super-marine, and Mr. Tripcony’s motor boat had a busy time conyeying them to and from the Seagull, which took its departure at 2pm. Capt. Johnston remarked when leaving that they would be in Brisbane in 20 minutes, having the wind astern." Pictured below is one of the 9 Super-Marine Seagulls owned by the Australian government, delivered between 1926-1927. [Wikipedia Commons]. She is a strange beauty. Our seaplane is cuter and also WAY quieter than the Seagull. She was designed as a spy-plane and registers only 61.8dB. You may have seen our seaplane over the Pumicestone Passage, but you would not have heard it over conversation-level noise. Today, as in the past, Seaplanes are an unusual spectacle and draw the interest and imagination of many. We want to recreate this romance and inspire many to embark on their dreams and go and do great things like these aviation pioneers. We also want to share this beautiful environment from a very environmentally-friendly vantage point. Help us bring back a bit of history to the passage but in a more beautiful way, with a LOT less noise. Please sign and share our petition for a 3-month trial permit from Sunshine Coast Council to assess the impact of a seaplane landing on the Pumicestone Passage: http://chng.it/bnc6KKYLxX [The original article appeared in the Nambour Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser Fri 12 Oct 1928 Page 2 'Seaplane Anchorage'.]
