24.01.2022 COVID UPDATE AGAIN! As of Monday we are going back to semi normal!. We will again be allowing people into the clinic, but limiting to one person per consult (with some exceptions). We will still be practising social distancing and hand hygiene. We will be able to do vaccinations and desexings and all our normal work again!. And most importantly.. as of now (effective immediately) you are now allowed to Walk your Dog!!
24.01.2022 Thanks to my friend Pat Cadigan for this!
22.01.2022 Please keep an eye out for these very much loved birds!
22.01.2022 A Reminder! We are still Open! But we are now declared an essential service and for the next six days we are only allowed to provide essential healthcare for urgent matters. We are unfortunately having to delay all vaccines, desexings and non urgent surgeries until this lockdown is lifted. We can still here for consults for sick or injured pets, and if you are needing food or medications, but we ask that you please call first so that it is ready for you, and you will be served outside. For consultations please note that we are now not allowed to have clients into the building, your pet will be brought through to be examined while you wait in your car. The vet will call you for the history and to discuss with you. Please speak to the nurses if you are concerned in any way. And please read yesterdays post for more information!
22.01.2022 We would just like to say a big Thankyou to all of our patients and their families for their patience! I know we are extra busy with consults and everything we need to do takes a lot longer with disinfecting and covid19 protocols which means that your wait time to be seen is often a lot longer than usual! Thankyou all for your understanding and kindness to all of our staff! We have been stunned by the support shown to us through this all! Big doggy kisses and kitty head butts for you all!!
21.01.2022 Thank you for all sharing our kitten adoption post! We have found a fuuuuuurever home for all three together! What a happy tail
21.01.2022 Pet Coronavirus Plan! Have you considered your pets in your pet coronavirus plan? What will happen if you end up in hospital? Have you checked with your neighbours about their pets?. Overseas the poor pets were not considered until too late. Pets were left in houses without food when owners were transported to hospitals. ... Sometimes people are elderly and family members may also be sick, or too worried about the sick person in hospital to think about their pet. Some people in our community are isolated without family or friends. Please reach out to your neighbours with pets and ask them- "who will be looking after your pet if you get sick"? Make plans now and have backups ready. Make sure someone can care for your pet if you can't. Make sure they know what food or medication your pet needs. The Para Hills Vet Clinic has some free emergency cards that you can carry in your wallet listing your address and emergency contact numbers for your pets. Please ask one of the nurses if you would like one. Alternatively write it all onto a business card and carry it all in your wallet!. If you end up looking after a coronavirus patients pet then remember that pets are not likely to be infectious in themselves, but if the owner has coughed onto the pet then it could possibly carry the virus on its fur. Wash your hands after handling a pet owned by someone with coronavirus. If you are having to take the pet to your home to care for it then wash the coat in a pet shampoo!. Good luck, stay safe and help look after all of our pets!.
21.01.2022 R U OK? Today is a national day of action dedicated to reminding people to ask family, friends and colleagues the question, "R U OK?", in a meaningful way, because connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference to anyone who might be struggling. Mental health is so important especially in the veterinary industry, the things we see and the things we do certainly take their toll so today we ask our fellow workers in the industry and also our clients R U OK? #parahillsvet
21.01.2022 We are often asked about essential oils!

19.01.2022 Today is World Animal Day. It is a day that has become an international celebration for animal rights and welfare. World Animal Day unites the people who are advocating for better treatment of animals and working in the animal welfare movement. The day started modestly almost 100 years ago, but today, the movement is a global force to make the world a better place for all animals. Give you animals a cuddle because they are lucky to have you, there are so many still looking for a home and some that may never know what it is like to be so loved #parahillsvet
19.01.2022 COVID 19 UPDATE OF SERVICES AT PARA HILLS VET CLINIC We are striving to continue to stay open to be able to look after the health of everyones pets. The advice seems to change daily as the increased cases in South Australia increase the exposure of all of our staff. Please be advised that as of MONDAY the 23rd of March: - Sick, people who have travelled or people in contact with coronavrius positive people will be asked to get someone else to please bring their pet to the cl...inic. If nobody is available then please call for advice. - That consultations will be limited to ONE person only with each pet. Additional people will be asked to wait in their cars. Our consult rooms need to allow for 4m2 per person, and with vet, client and nurse we can not have anyone else in the room. - That we will be asking the majority of people to wait outside or in their cars until they are called in to their appointments to reduce the number of people waiting in the reception area. - Once in reception we will ask you to please use hand sanitiser before and after being at the reception desk. -In the Consultation room we ask that you please try and respect the 2 metre distance as recommended by the government. In the event that we need help to hold or restrain your pet we will call in a nurse to work closely with the vet. We all understand that these are hard times, and vets are fighting to be declared an essential service so that they can continue to treat pets. To do this though we must keep our staff healthy!. Please understand that coronavirus is spread before a person gets symptoms so we still need to distance ourselves from people who appear healthy! We also want to protect all of our clients, hence decreasing people congregating in the waiting room, continual cleaning, and of course having hand santiser everywhere throughout the clinic.
19.01.2022 DAY ONE The struggle is real! How do you break it to them that there’s no walks during lockdown? Have you come up with a creative way to keep them occupied at home? We want to see photos of how you and your dog are keeping busy today! Gorgeous photo of Bob the Border Collie

17.01.2022 HOW TO KEEP YOUR DOGS OCCUPIED DURING THE CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN To help make things a little easier we have pulled together some ideas on how to keep your dogs occupied during the lockdown and during this heat. Here are some ideas to keep your dog busy while staying indoors where it’s cool: Search Games: ... Hiding some treats and toys all around the house will create something like a scavenger hunt for your dog. He can use his senses and find these rewards once he finds your hiding spots. Just make sure you only hide small amounts of tasty food, and not too much. Shell game: Place three plastic cups upside-down on the floor and hide a treat under one of the cups. Move the cups around each other while your dog watches the movements. Then see if he can find the cup with his reward. Frozen treats: These are another source of fun and entertainment. You just need to put some food or a treat in an ice-cream container, fill it with water and freeze it. Your pet will have lots of fun licking and chewing on it for the ice to melt and revealing the delicious surprise for him to enjoy. Chewing: Chewing is a natural behaviour for dogs and chews such as Kongs can keep your dog busy for hours, as well as helping to maintain good dog dental hygiene. Chewing also helps to reduce destructive behaviour. Teach basic commands: Does he already know the important commands like "sit", "stay", "come", on your bed? Now is the time to put in some hours of reward-based training. Teach names: Give toys names and ask your dog to fetch "teddy" or "ball" and put them in a box. Play hide and seek! Hide from your dog with a treat in your hand. Call your dog once, then when he has found you, reward with a treat. Tidying up: Much to the delight of any children who may also be home, train your dog to also put away his toys, preferably in a box.
17.01.2022 We wish to advise our clients we are CLOSED today! If you find yourself needing a vet in an emergency situation we recommend the Adelaide Animal Emergency and Referral Centre on Anzac Highway on 08 8371 0333. They are located at 119 Anzac Highway, Kurralta Park #parahillsvet
16.01.2022 What sort of adventures do you and your best friend like to get up to?! Nurse Hannah loves taking her Aussie Shepherd Ryder hiking, we would love to see your pics! #parahillsvet
16.01.2022 Is your cat up to date with their vaccinations? There is a current outbreak of Feline Panleukopaenia in Adelaide, with many carers of foster cats and kittens losing large numbers of cats. While FPV can affect cats of all ages it is young cats and kittens that are mostly at risk. This is a nasty disease causing fever, depression, weight loss, vomiting and diarrohea, sudden death, and miscarriage for pregnant cats. This virus is an incredibly hardy virus and can live in the en...vironment for long periods of time. Even indoor cats can be at risk as it is possible to walk it home and into your home on your shoes!. While we thought that FPV was nearly eradicated in the 1970s it has made a comeback in Adelaide. Treatment is very difficult , with very few cats surviving. The good news is that we have a safe and effective vaccine available and it is included in the standard F3 core vaccine that cats get yearly. Kittens will require more frequent vaccination at 8, 12, and 16 weeks. If kittens are hand reared and lacking mothers immunity, and in group kittens (foster kittens) then we may advise more frequent vaccinations starting earlier, please ask your vet if you think this may be needed. 15.01.2022 Happy Easter to all our Clients! Hope Easter bunny spoiled you all
15.01.2022 COVID CLINIC UPDATE- It is at this difficult time that we ask you to trust us with your most precious family members! Unfortunately the new rulings with limits on number of people indoors, and of course to protect staff from the ever rising infection rate of coronavirus we are moving to a whole new, and very temporary way of doing things. For the moment we will no longer be able to allow people other than staff inside the clinic. The arrangements we have been working on invol...ve you passing your pet to the nurse at reception who will then take your pet into the consult room for the vet. The vet will then phone you for the history, and to discuss with you any care plans. The pet will then be returned to you. Payment if possible can also be done over the phone, or if needed can be via eftpos at reception. We ask that you trust us to give your pet extra special care when you are not able to be with them. Know that we know how special every pet is!. Also know that this is only temporary! Procedures requiring a lot of restraint such as nails or anal glands may require sedation or being put off until a later date to allow staff to practice a 1.5m distance as much as possible. If you are wanting to call in and pick up medications or foods then please also call us ahead of time so that we can have it ready to go, and preferably pay over the phone prior to coming in!. We are not yet totally cashless but would prefer eftpos please!. And lastly, be kind to each other, and to our staff. Our beautiful and dedicated staff are doing all they can to try to ensure that through this crisis we are able to keep looking after your precious pets. See more
14.01.2022 Sorry for the lack of posts as of late, as you can imagine with all the Covid rules and restrictions we have been run off our feet trying to change and adapt to the way we do things to accommodate these. As restrictions begin to ease we still wanted to remind our clients when visiting us to continue to keep social distancing, and we can only accept one person per pet into the clinic. We hope soon we can start welcoming back more people in and restart puppy school classes, we are missing our clients and puppy snuggles #parahillsvet
14.01.2022 We wish to advise our clients we will be CLOSED on Saturday the 25th of April in order to pay our respects to our fallen soldiers and those service animals who put their lives on the line for our country. If you find yourself needing a vet in an emergency situation we recommend the Adelaide Animal Emergency and Referral Centre on Anzac Highway on 08 8371 0333. They are located at 119 Anzac Highway, Kurralta Park #parahillsvet
12.01.2022 Hi all, having phone issues at the moment! We expect phones to be restored by about 2pm! Any issues in the meantime please call us on 0434710126. Thanks!
12.01.2022 Do we do Phone Consultations during COVID? If you are self isolating and are worried about your pet we do have the ability to do phone consultations. This is only available if we have seen your pet in the last 12 months, and is a problem that we are able to diagnose over the phone or by using videos and photos. Examples may be itchy skin, or needing a repeat of medications. Phone Consultations will generally occur on a Thursday or Friday (other days depending on availability...) and will incur a normal consultation fee that will be payable over the phone with credit card. If medications are required we can have them available for pick up without leaving your car (as long as you are healthy and they have been paid for over the phone) or we can post them to you at the cost of the postage. If you live in the Para Hills area close to the clinic we may be able to arrange drop off of medications for a small fee. Phone consultations will need to be booked like a normal appointment so that the veterinarian has time set aside to concentrate on your pets problem. If you are not sure please call the clinic and speak with one of our kind nurses to work out the best option for you and your pet. See more
12.01.2022 FOUND PARROT On Wednesday 10th February a member of the public brought in a parrot which flew into their glass door at Gulfview Heights area. If you are missing a parrot please contact the clinic on 82584838. We will need specific details to ID the bird & photo ID on collection of bird. (We can’t put specific details on our post, this is why we ask for ID details so we can match the correct owner to the correct bird )

08.01.2022 Welcome to our new outdoor triage reception area!. Everyone is safer outside or in their cars so we now have a very organised way for people to arrive for appointments, to be checked in and then to be able to wait in their car for their appointments before being called inside!. Please remember that it is only 1 person per pet inside. If you are wanting to pick up foods please call ahead so that we can have it ready for you. If you are needing to pick up medications please cal...l in advance so that they can be approved and ready to go!. Approval for repeat medications will only be occurring on thursdays and on fridays as with all this coronavirus we have had to split our staff into 2 teams and will be battling being short staffed!. Splitting into 2 teams helps us stay open so that if one group get sick we still have a second group of vets and nurses that are not sick!. This may mean that your normal vet may not be available on the day you want but be rest assured that all of our staff are wonderful and it may give you a chance to meet a new face!. Please bear with us during this difficult time as we are doing all we can to be able to stay open and be able to help those that need us!. And for those preferring to self isolate then we are happy to take your pet inside while you wait in your car, the vet will then call you on your phone for the history!. If you are sick please stay home and send someone else to bring your pet in! See more

07.01.2022 We are currently closed for the Easter Holiday! We will reopen Tuesday at 8am. For emergencies during this time we recommend the AAERC (Adelaide Animal Emergency and Referral Centre) on Anzac Highway. Their phone number is 8371 0333. Stay safe and enjoy special easter time with your pets, while keeping them away from the chocolate and sultana hot cross buns!
05.01.2022 Physical isolation means we cant have clients in the clinic at the moment- so heres some photos to show you the type of care your pet will get from us! This is the gorgeous Hannah looking after Humphrey after his surgery! ( Humphrey loved giving free kisses!)
05.01.2022 To all our lovely clients! Please do not be offended if we ask that if you the human are sick, please do not bring your pet to the vet!. If the pet needs care see if a friend or family member who is well can take your pet in. If you feel unwell and there is nobody available please tell the nurse while booking the appointment. You can then wait in your car and we will take your pet inside and speak to you by phone. We are also happy to offer this service for people trying to self isolate to prevent infections. . Any people showing obvious signs of sickness will be asked to head back to their car!. Likewise if the waiting room is getting crowded we will also ask people to wait in their cars and call them when their vet is ready!. Please understand that we have to be able to keep ourselves well to be able to keep treating your pets!

02.01.2022 Our Dr Kathy Burbidge is famous! Dr Kathy lived through the most recent fires at Gumeracha- have a look at the cow shed that she sheltered in as the fire went over... She gave so much to wildlife and neighbours during the tragedy that went through the gumeracha area. Dr Kathy we all appreciate how much you gave to people, and to all the animals through the fires. We are proud of you !
02.01.2022 COVID UPDATE - CARPARK SERVICE- We are so sorry but the state is now in full lockdown and the clinic has now made the decision to provide a drive in emergency or essential visits only. What does this mean for you? It means that we will no longer be allowing clients into the clinic. It means that we are asking vaccinations, desexings and other non essential surgeries to be delayed until we get a clearer picture of where this is all heading. For animals needing care yes we are... still open! Please call and the nurses will help arrange an appointment time. When you arrive you can call and let us know what car you are in and where you are parked. Someone will come out to your car to take your pet inside. A vet will call you on your mobile (please have it charged and with you and be ready to take our call!) to get a history and talk with you about treatment options. Afterwards someone will bring your pet back to your car, and we ask for eftpos payments if possible. We will do everything we can to stay open, and to protect our staff, while also being able to provide care for your pets!. Please trust us to handle your pets gently and examine them carefully while they are away from you. Hopefully this will only be for 6 days and SA can go back to being free again!. Photo is what we advise you should all do over the next 6 days. If you think that your pet gets extremely anxious away from you then please discuss this with the nurse on the phone- there are medications that you may be able to pick up to give prior to the appointment!. We are also able to do some telehealth appointments, such as when you are needing a repeat of medication for your pet, or when it is an issue that has occurred before that you want to discuss further. If you are quarantined or self isolating then please advise us on the phone, and get someone else to bring your pet in as nurses taking pets from cars are not in protective gear and we do not want to put them at risk. Pets can also carry virus particles that owners cough onto their fur so if anyone is sick, has covid, or is quarantining then please advise us of this on the phone while booking. See more
01.01.2022 We are masking up to help you!. The clinic is enacting the use of masks to help stop covid transmission between staff and to clients, and we may (depending on community transmission risk) ask you to mask up too!. (Don't worry we will have a disposable mask for you to wear). The clinic has a series of steps depending on what the current risk is. We are doing everything we can to keep ourselves and others safe while also looking after your pets!. Please take note of the followi...ng- - Only one person per consult allowed into the clinic - We may ask you to wear a mask - Please stay behind the red lines and 1.5 metres away from any staff and away from other clients. -If a pet needs to be held on a table then we will ask a nurse to help and we will wear masks if needed. - Please use hand sanitiser on entry to the clinic. - Please call ahead for food or medication pick ups and tell us what time we can expect you. - If you are sick or awaiting test results please get someone else to bring your pet in. - If you are trying to protect yourself and would prefer a contactless consult then we can arrange that. Please advise when booking and you can stay in your car and a nurse will come out to get your pet when we are ready for you. The vet will then call and talk to you over the phone. For medication repeats we may be able to do a telephone consult to save you from having to come in. And lastly, all of this may change at any moment, depending on what the latest numbers of covid cases are in SA. Please call and check with reception if you are concerned in any way.
01.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the Furdads out there! Today you get to clean our litter trays and take us for walks! We love you!
