19.01.2022 Located on the Tasman Peninsula and within the Tasman National Park is the impressive Cape Hauy - a dramatic assembly of dolerite columns and sea stacks towerin...g above the Tasman Sea. The Cape Hauy track is a demanding 9km return hike and forms part of the Three Capes Track showcasing some of the tallest sea cliffs in Australia. It’s also regarded as one of the best day hikes in Tasmania. We read plenty of reviews on this hike and the common phrase that kept appearing was lots of stairs. Unperturbed, we assumed people were being a little dramatic. We assumed wrong. Very wrong. Despite being a very scenic hike with some impressive views along the way, it was really hard to get past the pain of the never ending stairs. We stopped often to give our legs a rest, catch our breath and admire the views, but as we approached the cape our minds were stuck on the dreaded hike back. Cape Hauy really is beautiful and the extensive views along the coastline are a true reward for effort. Looking down we saw impressive rock formations called the Candlestick and Totem Pole - large columns of dolerite sticking out from the ocean, crafted by the environment. It’s so remote and pristine and we were extremely lucky to have it all to ourselves for the hour or so we stayed. A long, painful and sweaty hike back saw us close out the day at 6pm - exactly 5 hours after departing. We certainly don’t regret doing this hike and we’re very glad we did. We’re just not sure we’d do it again. One thing IS for sure and that is our family opinion is unanimous; we all hate stairs!! As always, pics are below. Our timing could have been better but such is life! . . . Discover Tasmania | Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service | Tasmania | Australia.com

03.01.2022 It’s clearly a popular time to be at the beach! Don’t forget, road rules still apply so keep left and stick to the speed limit - you don’t want a fine to spoil your holiday. : Mark Mulheran
