25.01.2022 Sometimes you may not even know you're stressed because you're so used to feeling that way! Other times, you may just not have the time or space to self-reflect. If you're feeling stressed, try these four things: 1. Be self-aware - Recognising the signs of stress means you're better able to take action to de-stress and regulate your emotions (so you can respond to your child from a place of calm). 2. Be kind to yourself - Have empathy for yourself! Be forgiving and find littl...e ways to inject kindness for yourself into your parenting. 3. Be flexible - Sometimes it’s ok to bend or temporarily change the rules (such as letting your child sleep in your bed for a night). 4. Manage expectations - If you accidentally 'react' from a place of stress, that's completely understandable! If this happens, it's ok to apologise to your child and let them know that everyone makes mistakes.

24.01.2022 Ever look at your partners parenting style and think, "What are you doing?!" This is totally normal Weve all had different experiences growing up, which can mould the way we parent our own kids.

24.01.2022 Can't find the time for counselling? Or maybe it's just too expensive. Parentline is here for parents and carers in QLD and the NT, whether you want advice or just need someone to listen.

24.01.2022 Having a safety team can help keep your child safe, especially as children wont always tell their parents when something concerning has happened. Start by tracing around their hand and get them to write their support team down! Encourage them to: - Have more than one adult on their safety team (one on the thumb and one on each of the fingers). These are the adults they can keep talking to if something gives them body clues, strong emotions or makes them uncomfortable. - Always have something up their sleeve (wrist contacts) in an emergency situation, like getting lost or badly hurt.
