10.01.2022 We want to teach children that all feelings are welcomed and that we all have feelings, even grown ups have feelings. Feelings are apart of life and what is also important is what we do with our feelings - how we express our feelings. This is where children need help. We will need to guide them through it. Expecting children to manage their emotions and not act out is an unrealistic expectation, one that even us as adults struggle to meet at times. Children have big ...feelings when they struggle to communicate what they are experiencing, so next time your child has a big feeling just take a moment to hit the pause button and step into their world. You can read more about children’s emotions in my blogs https://www.parentsdomain.com.au/resources

07.01.2022 There is so much that happens in a day for us. Sometimes we are going a million miles an hour trying to get through our to do list . Our senses are like a silent observer, taking in formation that also adds to our load, sometimes in a very unconscious way. All this incoming information depletes our energy and as well as our executive functioning resources, our ability to remain focused, plan, problem solve, think clearly etc. So when you feel overloaded have a go at... pressing pause and just stopping for 10-20minutes and have a go at doing an activity that engages your senses in a calming way ie: walk, sitting outside and soaking up the warmth of the sun, breathing exercises, meditation, bike ride... By engaging our senses we are sending messages to our para-sympathetic nervous system to calm down which results in us regaining clarity. Just think about it as 10-20minutes. It isn’t a lot of time to just have a break to lessen the load. Compared to if we continued to push through and continue to deplete our resources. #mindfulness

07.01.2022 SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS PROGRAM A wonderful semi structure play based program to support children starting 3 or 4 year old kindergarten in 2021. https://www.parentsdomain.com.au/services/a-sea-of-friends

05.01.2022 Sometimes our children make really bad choices. My children certainly have!! Yes, we feel angry and disappointed and a whole range of emotions from their choices and actions. If we come from a viewpoint they are learning, this is a learning opportunity, we can guide them through it and problem solve solutions. It creates understanding, openness in our relationship because at the end of the day we want our children to turn to us as parents for the safety and connection. I ju...st want to note that children will be more open to the consequences for the choices/ behaviour when we come from this viewpoint rather than a stance of projection of our emotions. Something to think about

05.01.2022 When children have feelings of worry, fear, stress or anxiety their brains are in a state of either hyper or hypo arousal. Remember that these feelings generate tension in the body and along with this comes a compulsion to act, hence why we see behavioural changes. Let’s not judge their behaviour instead let’s step in and support them to get to a state of calmness ... 04.01.2022 Here is a great little mindfulness/ grounding exercise that children (and adults)can do in heightened emotions states, in particular when they feel stress or worry or nervousness.
