Parents With A Disability (PWAD) peer support meetings are held monthly, on the last Thursday of the month. ... PWAD is run by parents with a disability, for parents with a disability. Meet and chat with other parents, and share your experiences. We would love to see you. So pop the dates in your diaries, and come along. DANDENONG COMMUNITY ADVISORY BUREAU 186 FOSTER EAST DANDENONG PWAD is a Peer Support Group that helps people with a disability who have children, giving and receiving help and advice that founded on key principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement of what is helpful. Because the group are all parents with a disability we understand each another’s situation through the shared experience. We welcome new participants into the group who: Are a person with a disability who is a parent, or thinking of becoming a parent? Have needs or issues that are not being addressed and want to do something about them? * Would you like to meet with other parents with a disability and share ideas? * Support the human rights of people with disability to be parents. * Support the rights of both children and parents. * Believe children have the right to live with their natural parent. * Are interested in the issues and needs of parents with a disability? PWAD purposes are to: * Encourage and empower parents with a disability to be actively involved in directing the organisation. * Educate the community about the rights of parents with a disability and their needs and issues. * Work with and educate the government and service providers to provide relevant and accessible services to parents with a disability. * Facilitate peer support networks of parents and potential parents who have a disability in Victoria. * Continue to Develop an information and resource service for parents with a disability. * For more information contact: Michele De Hommel.
