23.01.2022 Something we have seen A LOT of in 2020 is women who’ve gone for routine pathology and been told that their TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels are normal and they have nothing to worry about. Those women then come to see us, confused because they are tired all the time. Something we’ve attributed to the increase in thyroid clients is 2020! Yep, you read that correctly. Two triggers we are putting it down to are stress (hello global pandemic) and glute...n (hello homemade sourdough trend). Ringing any bells? The issue with your doctor testing only TSH is that it is actually produced by the pituitary gland it’s not a thyroid hormone at all it’s a thyroid stimulating hormone. It tells the thyroid what to do. But it doesn’t always tell us exactly what your thyroid is up to. Instead, to find this out, we need to look at levels of T3 and T4. This is why we order a full thyroid panel with our naturopathic clients, including T3, T4, Reverse T3 and anti-thyroid antibodies. Only then can we truly say that your thyroid is fine. Until then, we only know a very small part of the picture. If this sounds like something you’ve been experiencing, make an appointment by clicking the link in our bio. . . . . #naturopath #naturopathy #naturalremedies #thyroid #hormones #autoimmune #hashimotos #gluten See more

19.01.2022 Feeling anxious occasionally is totally normal. Everyone deals with it. Even me! It's when it becomes chronic, it can wreak havoc on your life and your health, messing with your moods, sleep, work, relationships, hormones, and gut. And here's something you might not know. You could be struggling with anxiety and not even realise it. I often see clients in clinic who come to me with a range of symptoms like...... Trouble sleeping Fatigue Difficulty concentrating Irritability and tension Increased heart rate or palpitations Sweating and hot flashes Trembling or shaking Chest pains or shortness of breath Feelings of impending doom or terror And what we discover through examination and testing is that these symptoms were caused by chronic anxiety... and they didn't even realise it! The good news is that there are many ways to mitigate and manage anxiety naturally. And I'm hosting an online masterclass on June 3rd to give you insight into how to recognise the symptoms and ways to manage anxiety without medication. If you're struggling with anxious feelings, or with some of the symptoms above, join me to learn how to finally get some inner peace. 15.01.2022 Meditation doesn’t have to be sitting down and trying to empty your mind. The simple act of walking in nature and observing her wild and wonderful ways, be it the wind in the trees or the waves crashing against the shore, is enough to reset the nervous system. : @etc.naturopathy . .... . . #naturopath #naturopathy #naturalremedies #byronbaylife #byronbayhealth #byronbaynaturopath #meditation #mindfulness See more
12.01.2022 Our naturopathic consultations dive deep into an array of topics If you’ve had a 90-minute initial consult you’ll understand this! Something that we often talk about is switching out plastics. Many plastic containers out there contain Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, which are known endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disruptors have the ability to mimic or interfere with our body's hormones (also known as the endocrine system). Endocrine disruptors... are linked with developmental, reproductive, brain, immune, and other problems. BPA is a chemical used in the lining of some food and beverage packaging to protect food from contamination and extend shelf life. Phthalates are plasticisers that are often used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) which is found in commercial cling wraps and other plastics used in the food industry, as well as cosmetics and beauty products. We share this knowledge to empower you to make informed choices about your health. Don’t eat or drink too much before bed ~ too much liquid will have you up all night peeing, too heavy a meal before bed will have your digestive system working overtime, which may have you waking up in the early hours of the morning. 08.01.2022 Words by @paigechristiehealth This beautiful little tree like vegetable is one of the best things you can eat for your hormones This is because it contains constituents such as diindolylmethane (DIM) and indole-3-carbinol (I3C) which helps with the metabolism and excretion of oestrogen. ... Its other well researched compound sulforaphane enhances liver detoxification and prevents oxidative stress (or tissue ageing). The best way to eat broccoli is to cook it (best not eaten raw) and consume it with some healthy fats/oils to help absorption of the fat soluble vitamins. **If you have thyroid issues particularly an underactive thyroid then best to eat only in moderation (as it can affect iodine uptake).
05.01.2022 Collagen has been a hit now for a couple of years. Whether you add it to your morning elixir or make gelatin gummies for the kids, it’s become a pantry staple for those of us wanting to supercharge our health and wellbeing. However, like anything we put in our bodies, it is so important to know the source of your collagen to make sure the health claims printed on the label are legit. Nutritionist @jordiepieface has recently written a blog... post that takes a deep dive into some of the hidden secrets of the collagen industry and which brands she recommends you spend your money on. 04.01.2022 Hi, @julesgallowayhealth here. I recently shared my cortisol test results over on my IG (check them out if you missed it), because just like you, I need to monitor my own health too, practice what I preach and all that. While my results show a marked improvement, I am the first to admit that I still have work to do. Something I’ve been nerding out on since having @DrCarrieJones on the podcast is hacking my Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR). CAR occurs in th...e first 30 minutes upon waking in the morning and can significantly influence how the rest of your day/overall health pans out. CAR influences: Energy levels/ Stress response/ resilience Alertness Blood sugar management Mood: anxiety, panic, depression, worry Autoimmune development/progression Inflammation regulation/ Infection regulation Memory/recall The simplest way to improve your CAR is by getting out into the bright light of the day within 30 minutes of waking. Find north and head there! For me, this looks like stepping out onto my balcony. What it doesn’t look like is scrolling on my phone for 20 minutes after waking. Wake up earlier than the sunrise? No problems, get yourself some full-spectrum light bulbs and flick the switch and hack your CAR. There are so many little hacks we can do for our health that don’t cost a cent. : @serajwright . . . . #naturopath #naturopathy #naturalremedies #byronbaylife #byronbayhealth #byronbaynaturopath #cortisol #cortisolawakeningresponse #healthhack #biohacking #biohack #drcarriejones See more

01.01.2022 So often we see women who spend all of their time giving and giving and giving to their children, partner, family, friends, career but not to themselves. It’s important for you to realise that this is the example you are showing your children of what a woman should be like. It’s time to break the mould and generational programming and PUT YOURSELF FIRST! When you are exhausted and burnt out, you can’t give to anyone.
