24.01.2022 Yesterday was Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Day. For those of you asking - what is Oesophageal cancer? Here's some information you can take away. Oesophageal cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the gullet, the tube that links the mouth to the stomach. It affects men more often than women, with almost 7 out 10 cases being male and its is particularly common among white males. The risk of developing oesophageal cancer increases with age, with drinking, smoking and being ...overweight also increasing risk. One of the reasons this type of cancer is so lethal is that it does not usually cause any symptoms in the early stages, so it is often picked up late, when the cancer has grown bigger and/or already spread. Symptoms of oesophageal cancer are difficulty swallowing, persistent indigestion or heartburn, bringing up food after eating, loss of appetite and weight loss, and discomfort in the upper chest, gut or back area. Learn more about this at https://www.cancer.org.au//types-of-can/oesophageal-cancer.

15.01.2022 FAQ: How many sessions do people tend to see a psychologist for? Every person has a different journey through therapy. This is largely dependent on the nature of why they are coming in and what it is that they are hoping to get out of sessions. Some people come to see a psychologist to develop coping strategies to reduce or manage symptoms of mental illness. This type of work can be short to medium term, but might also involve checking in less frequently over the longer-term ...to deal with setbacks or prevent relapse. Other people come to therapy to understand long-standing patterns (such as relationship issues) that stem from experiences during their childhood, or to receive ongoing support. This type of work tends to happen over an extended period of time, although again, this is dependent on client preferences. Sometimes people come to therapy for a one off session or just a handful of sessions to speak about a specific issue in their life or to talk through a particular concern. Although problems and challenges are typically what bring people to a psychologist (at least initially), therapy can also be a space for self-development and growth. Our on-site psychologist is taking appointments now. Give us a call or book online.

10.01.2022 FAQ: How does confidentiality work with a psychologist? All information that you disclose in your session with a psychologist is confidential. There are two exceptions to this rule. The first exception is if you are at risk of harm to yourself or someone else and the second exception is in relation to court orders. If either of these situations become relevant your psychologist will discuss this with you. Speak to us today to make an appointment with our on-site psychologist.

05.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC Week - A week to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
02.01.2022 Annual health checks for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients Staying on top of your health is important. Annual health check ups help to identify potential illnesses or chronic diseases before they occur. It is much easier to look at ways to prevent these things from occurring, rather than treatment. Having the health check can take up to an hour. A Practice Nurse, Aboriginal Health Worker or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner may assist ...the doctor to perform this health check. They will record information about your health, such as your blood pressure, blood sugar levels, height and weight. You might also have a blood test or urine test. It is also an opportunity to talk about the health of your family. Depending on the information you’ve provided, you might have some other tests too. You’ll then have a yarn with the doctor or health practitioner about the tests and any follow up you might need. It’s also good to tell them about your family medical history or any worries you have about your health.
