19.01.2022 Cheering you on every day till May 25th in the gym and on the big day!

16.01.2022 This is one of Derek's lifts that broke the existing title. It is a bit difficult to see but Derek is the one making his wy to the bench and once the helper has set him up, Derek then lifts the bar and sustains the hold for the designated period of time and kabom! He has broken another record.

14.01.2022 Well, here I am trying to build a crowdfunding page for our own Derek Mason who at the end of May goes to Cairns to defend his standing titles, and break some new ones as he is now 80 years old and so Powerlifting in a new category. He is competing in 2 competitions - one being National and one being International. And to make things very exciting he is now competing in all 3 phases of powerlifting - which I cannot explain so maybe when Don sees this - he will take up the ma...ntle and explain it here for us. Don Carrieres, also a member of the Tewantin Noosa Parkinson's Support Group is his coach. Competing in the 2 competitions means his stay in Cairns is somewhat protracted and he must travel with a coach of course! So, help Derek out and show your enthusiasm for this Hero amongst us and help crowdfund here. Look out for the call coming up! See more

14.01.2022 A message from John Ross who is accompanying Derek to his competition in Cairns and this crowdfunding link is an updated one on the earlier one. So humbled to be by this man's side as he attempts to break Powerlifting World Records in May. Derek has Parkinson's and requires assistance, and has asked me if I would fill those shoes. Please consider helping us in this once in a lifetime opportunity to show the world age is but a number. Illnesses can be defied and beaten in more ways than one. Go Derek with our help

13.01.2022 Treat to Target Will End Enrolment at the End of July Hello All, I am reaching out to everyone who expressed interest in the Treat to Target trial. ... This includes people who have, are still or about to be involved in the study. People who might not have met the study criteria or even people we never managed to get in touch with. I apologize for this spam-style email out to everyone, I hope you don't mind too much my last effort to have as many people involved in the study as possible. This study commenced in April 2018 and will come to an end later this year. The study needs to finish this year and this means that I have until the end of July to enroll the final participants. If you have already been enrolled, it would be great if you could let others know about the study. You could share the attached flyer or post something on Facebook. Anyone interested should let me know by filling in my online form: https://florey.edu.au/parkinsons-movement-trial If you haven't been enrolled, it would be great if you could also let others know about the study too. Or, perhaps you might now be able to participate yourself? Just to remind you we are looking for people who are: Aged between 59 and 75 years Have Parkinson's Have been diagnosed with Parkinson's for 4 years or more (ie. were diagnosed in 2015 or earlier) OR Take a levodopa medication (eg Madopar, Kinson, Sinemet, Stalevo) at least 4 times a day Haven't had DBS or DuoDopa or are on Apomorphine Have worn a PKG watch in the last 12 months There are a few other checks, but the above points are the most crucial. Below are the locations and dates for the last opportunity to be involved. When and Where? St Vincent's Melbourne 17th of July and 1st of August Royal Adelaide Hospital 24th of July Beach Brain Clinic on the Sunshine Coast 13th of July Epworth Hospital Geelong 6th of July and 10th of August Wynnum Heath Centre Brisbane 25th of July I would really appreciate your help with this. We are so close to having enrolled enough people, and early analysis looks very promising- but having enough people will be crucial to being able to conclude a result. I also want to acknowledge and that everyone for their support, involvement, and interest to date. It has been such a pleasure coordinating this study and getting to meet such passionate and motivated people. Thank you so much, we could not have done this study without you. Best wishes, Holly Holly Woodrow Research Support Officer Honorary Positions held at St Vincent's Melbourne, St Vincent's Sydney, Westmead Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital, Royal Hobart Hospital and Goulburn Valley Health. 12.01.2022 Today Sunday 25th was a profoundly moving day as the funeral of one of The Sing Thing choir members was held. Those who knew Mirte Craig will remember a larger-than-life character who emanated joy and robust life energy. Mirte died on Saturday 17th August with her 2 sons around her, talking to you, sharing family messages and caressing her. Her funeral today was a real celebration of an amazing life. Vale, Mirte Maja Craig Mirte Craig born 19/6/42 - 17/8/19. At every tribute ...and beyond family there were 13, her long journey with Parkinson's was noted as was her great courage, fortitude and will to persevere. The people who contacted me, unable to attend used words like daring, outspoken, inspiring and fiesty - all fitting accolades to a lady who on August 15th, just 2 days before she died, rose up at The Sing Thing Choir afternoon and sang for us her offering on a theme song. Sarah, Kath and I seem to remember the tune might have been, 'You are my Sunshine". I read at the funeral on behalf of the Tewantin Noosa Parkinson's Support Group. See more
