13.02.2022 Pump for Parkinson's - Coffs Harbour is on again this Friday 12 November Thanks to the generosity of local businesses Bailey Centre Liberty and PK Express Transport a whopping 15c from every litre sold will be donated to the local Parkinson's Support Group to help maintain the services of a Parkinson's Specialist Nurse based in Coffs Harbour. We’ve been doing this for five years now and it’s always a pleasure to help out where we can for this very worthy cause. We are looki...ng forward to many more years, said Paul Amos from the Bailey Centre Liberty Service Station. People living with Parkinson’s which has a huge effect on their quality of life are under-served in regional communities like ours. Parkinson’s Specialist Nurses are their best connection to advice and support, and we are lucky to have one here. David Strickland of PK Express Transport agreed, saying: We have a great community here in Coffs and we take care of our own. This fundraiser was the perfect opportunity for us to make a contribution to our hometown especially since people living with Parkinson’s need specialised local support to manage their disease. https://www.parkinsonsnsw.org.au/pump-it-for-parkinsons/
10.02.2022 It's National Carers Week here in Australia. We recognise, celebrate and are so thankful for all the cares out there who provide countless hours of care and support to family members and friends. https://carersweek.com.au/ https://www.carergateway.gov.au/
26.01.2022 It’s R U OK?Day and we’re calling on everyone to check in with the people in their world and ask if they’re really OK, not just today but every day. The ups and... downs of life can affect each of us differently. Sometimes it won’t be obvious that someone is struggling, but having the support of family, friends and close colleagues can help those close to us better navigate the challenges that come their way. Don't wait until someone is visibly distressed or in crisis to ask them how they're really going. Make a moment meaningful and ask, "are you OK?" because your conversation could change a life. If you want to support someone but aren’t sure where to start, follow these four steps: ASK R U OK? Pick the right time and place and ask them how they're going. LISTEN Listen with an open mind and without judgement. ENCOURAGE ACTION - Encourage them to do something that might lighten the load. CHECK IN Remember to check in again soon. Your ongoing care and support can make a difference. Are they really OK? Ask them today. Find more conversation tips at www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask #RUOK #RUOKDay #aretheyreallyOK

30.12.2021 The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival is currently streaming a movie about Parkinson's until 31st July called 'Me To Play'. Two professional actors with Parki...nson's disease put up an Off-Broadway production of Samuel Beckett's "Endgame," a play he wrote as a metaphor for living with the disease after his mother succumbed to Parkinson's. In the play, Beckett wrote, "There's nothing funnier than unhappiness;" this movie proves it. It also shows that when the body gives way, all that's left is soul.
