23.01.2022 A society that does not value its older people denies its roots and endangers its future. Let us strive to enhance their capacity to support themselves for as long as possible and, when they cannot do so anymore, to care for them. ~ Nelson Mandela Last week was Seniors Week . What better way to celebrate all the amazing Aged Care clients, with a cuppa and cake .

19.01.2022 FILL THE UTE FOR YOUTH 2020 has been a tough year for all of us but there are those way less fortunate. Let’s pay our luck of surviving COVID19 forward and onto those more affected . Homelessness affects people of all ages, and in all regions of Tasmania. In the shadow of the COVID19, all Tasmanians are aware of the need to reduce and eliminate homelessness in Tasmania and it has never been more urgent.... People can become homeless for many reasons including loss of income or employment; the lack of affordable housing; family breakdown and domestic violence; transition from care or custody; and mental health, gambling or substance issues. In 2016 the ABS Census showed 1622 people were homeless in Tasmania , 57% of this figure are in the Hobart and southern region of Tasmania and 25% were individuals aged between 12 24. A division of Pathways, Youth Launch is a Hobart-based shelter for young males (13- 20yrs) who are either homeless or troubled by mental health issues. They also support transient service users who still prefer living on the streets rather than accessing services. 2020 has seen a marked increase in the need for this shelter, a decrease in funding for the program and the inability for Pathways to undertake their major fundraising events. Let’s Fill the Ute for Youth and make the Christmas period a little easier for Pathways and the young people they support . Any of the following donations of new and used (must being in good condition) can be donated; Back Packs, small suitcases , single tents , sleeping bags, male clothing (all sizes) including new socks and underpants, warm jackets and wet weather gear. Shoes (any type and all sizes) Care Packs (toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, hair brush/comb, wet wipes, and hand sanitizer) Bedding (blankets, sheets, pillows (new) and pillow cases) Any non-perishable foods , in particular things that can be eaten without cooking/heating Items can be donated between now and mid-December and will be stored at Tullah Road before delivery to Pathways on Friday 18 December 2020
