22.01.2022 We love tap the smiles say it all Tap dancers wear special shoes fitted with tap plates on the balls and heels of the feet. They allow us to create incredible beats, rhythms and sounds all with just our feet! How cool is that?! We can drag, tap, shuffle, knock, hop, wing, stamp, flick our way through upbeat songs to accentuate different beats and accents with sound!... Have you tried tap yet? If you’re interested in taking up a new style in 2021, speak to your teachers

21.01.2022 Cooling down is a vibe at PDA After dance classes, to take care of your body, we encourage dancers to help return their heart-rate to resting. This allows the body time to recover and prevents muscle soreness and potential injury. It is ideal to reduce movement and intensity slowly. This can be done by holding a passive stretch for 15 seconds and repeating. This moves lactic acid out of the muscles more easily. ... What are your favourite stretches to do during cool-down?

19.01.2022 Another throwback to our mid-year concert in 2018! We do love us some Fosse [pronounced foss-i] Bob Fosse was an American choreographer, dancer, actor and filmmaker. He’s worked on some pretty big name works you may know of musicals called Chicago and Cabaret? He is a pioneer in jazz style and is known for his flair and signature moves. Can you think of any other Fosse moves? Jazz hands are a classic, and punctuated hand movements, finger snaps, turned-in knees come to min...d. His style is described as slow and angular, rendering it truly unique Have you had a chance to dance in his style?

19.01.2022 Some more fantastic dancers enjoying Zoom classes as a dance school, our community are now professionals in online learning. We are so proud! Have our dancers discovered something new?

17.01.2022 Have you thought about doing solo/private classes next year? It’s a fantastic way to: Work on your target areas of your performance Challenge yourself and your artistry... Gain confidence and improve self-esteem Develop skills for future auditions/experiences At PDA, we have had great success training dancers to explore their creativity, strengthen their technique and flourish into artists within the industry We love seeing our dancers work hard towards goals and one-on-one time is so valuable!

14.01.2022 Another highlight from Parkwood Dance Academy over the years! Can you spot any students or teachers in this photo? This contemporary piece was performed by our Advanced students. The specific style is called ‘Butoh’ which is a form of Japanese dance theatre. We love how everybody has been captured here, this in itself is like a piece of art; there are so many beautiful parts to look at. Dancing truly is art

14.01.2022 A little throwback to the 2018 mid-year concerts our gorgeous dancers embodying expression and artistry We love to tell stories through our performance pieces. We teach our students to use their faces, bodies and musicality to convey this to audiences. It also elevates their performance; feeling it from within and letting it show. If this aspect of dance fascinates you, don’t forget we partner with Empowerdance to deliver Certificate II, III & IV in VET Dance. You get to le...arn the dance elements and apply them to your own solos, forming solid fundamentals to set you up for all things dance! 07.01.2022 Our concert is looking a little different this year, but we’re still giving it our signature PDA passion and enthusiasm Our Zoom classes are continuing to practice and refine choreography for our end of year virtual showcase. We hope you’ve all been enjoying it and we can’t wait until our videographer pieces everyone’s videos together. Have you got a favourite dance already?

06.01.2022 Dancing is a physical, emotional and mental challenge . Many don’t see it as one, but those in the industry know the determination, blood, sweat and tears that go into your technique and skill [as well as passion, grace and talent!] In order to take care of your physical and mental wellbeing, it’s important to fuel your body with the right foods. What will help you have energy for class? What will help you recover? What can help you build muscle? We know lockdown can make things like this tricky, with lots of other distractions and inconveniences. Be sure to treat yourself too, balance and moderation is key.
