19.01.2022 Parramatta Orthodox cathedral receives approval! Plans for a $28 million grand cathedral on the banks of the Parramatta River in the CBD has recieved approval. The Hellenic Orthodox Community of Parramatta submitted the development application for 163 to 165 George St, Parramatta, in July 2018.... The proposal included plans for the construction of a new, purpose-built Place of Public Worship, as well as a public forecourt area and underground parking. Planning documents revealed the application proposed the construction of a grand Cathedral and public forecourt at the northern end of the former Parramatta Workers Club site. The key aspects of the proposal (comprises) a two-storey grand cathedral and includes a 400 seat Church with narthex, nave, sanctuary, chapel, mothers room, confessional room, priest’s office and seating within the mezzanine level, the proposal said. A hall and kitchen facilities, as well as a new forecourt, are also earmarked for the site. Parramatta Council planning representatives recommended the proposal be refused by the Sydney Central City Planning Panel when it meets to determine the development on July 31. Council officers raised concerns around building heights, the risk of flooding, a lack of compliance with parking and interaction of the proposed development with the proposed Parramatta Light Rail works. The development is not considered to be in the public interest and would result in the setting of a detrimental precedent for the desired future character of the locality, council representatives told the planning panel.

19.01.2022 The Parramatta Square retail link between Parramatta Station and the new public space is now open to pedestrians. Pedestrians can now travel undercover via the retail link from Parramatta Station to Parramatta Square and the public space. A variety of retailers and dining experiences along the retail link will be open soon.... Access to 4 Parramatta Square tower lobby from the retail link is via stairs on the eastern Sydney Water side. Pedestrians travelling to Macquarie Street from the public space can access the walkway between 3 Parramatta Square and Western Sydney University. Pedestrians travelling to Smith Street from the public space can access the walkway between Sydney Water and Western Sydney University. Pedestrian access to Church Street will continue to be via Darcy Street while construction works continue within Parramatta Square. Lift access from street level to the retail link is available from Darcy Street (West Concourse) and from the rear of Sydney Water. 09.01.2022 NEW OFFICE TOWER STARTS IN PARRAMATTA Work has commenced on demolition and after looking through documents, an archeological dig will be imminent. The 1100sqm site has a couple of old buildings but its whats underneath is more important as far as historic artifacts go. Once this is dug and researched, then 4 levels for carparking will be excavated for 26 carspaces. The 13storey building is built to strict sun plane to 57m high....
