18.01.2022 It's National Recycling Week and re-use is at the heart of our project. As part of the conversion of the old T6 Carlingford railway line to two-way light rail, the project is re-using over 60% of removed rails, over 90% removed sleepers, and 50% of ballast. 12,000 sleepers, 8,000 cubic metres of ballast and 11,000 metres of rail will live-on in the new light rail dual tracks and stops!
17.01.2022 Did you know? As part of ongoing works to construct the upcoming James Ruse Drive Bridge (one of several bridges being delivered as part of the Parramatta Light Rail project), the PLR team used a 750-tonne crane to erect five girders over Clay Cliff Creek last week. #parramattalightrail
14.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday Old meets new! A historic moment here is the shovel used to turn the first sod for the original Baulkham Hills Tramway, in 1901, next to one that turned the first sod for the modern Parramatta Light Rail in January this year.... We're excited to bring the journey full circle when the Parramatta Light Rail opens in 2023. #parramattalightrail #parramattahistory

11.01.2022 #Construction101 Now that we have laid the first Parramatta Light Rail tracks, let's learn more about ballasted track construction. Typically, sleepers (concrete material) are laid directly on top of ballast (aggregate rock). ... The rail is attached to sleepers, with more ballast applied on top and swept to level to create a track a tried and tested technique used on train lines for decades and perfectly suited to the former T6 Carlingford Line rail corridor, where light rail is replacing trains for more frequent services. 03.01.2022 At the Parramatta Light Rail project, we are proud of how we re-use water on site. On site at Rydalmere, two sediment basins hold up to 630,000 litres of water, allowing us to treat water on-site. Sediment particles drop out of the stored stagnant water and settle at the bottom, allowing clean water to remain at the top of the pond. ... This process allows the water to be recycled as vac trucks can then out the clean water for on-site reuse, for activities like dust suppression or filling water barriers. #parramattalightrail #choosetoreuse

Archaeological salvage works allow us to learn more about Parramatta's history, assessing and recording information about any remains of historical Aboriginal sites, to preserve places and items of value. ...
