25.01.2022 Picked up on the wire from the school - The Sons and Grandsons photo is still going strong at Marist! The Old Boys Union is pleased to see that such a great tradition (amongst others) persists. It is necessary, especially in these times, to preserve the history, traditions, academic, sporting and religious culture of our great school. Fortior Ito

24.01.2022 Who was around PMHS in 1993 for this barnstorming try by Eamonn Edgar? This run sealed the Round of 16 Commonwealth Bank Cup match against St Paul's Catholic College, Manly. Keep an eye on this page for more of the same.

23.01.2022 Please note that the Parramatta Marist Bicentennial Bash, originally scheduled for tomorrow evening, has been postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The event will take place in 2021 at a date to be announced.

16.01.2022 A great article from last week's Sydney Morning Herald about an Old Boy who was an esteemed jazz musician and quiet achiever - Bernie McGann (Class of 1955). A great school producing great men across many disciplines. Fortior Ito https://www.smh.com.au//slings-arrows-apathy-and-a-jaunty-

15.01.2022 On Sunday 9 August 2020, the Parramatta Marist community was deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs Cathy Furey, a beloved member of staff for more than a decade. Today, we as a school community joined with Cathy’s family and friends in celebrating her life at her funeral, held in our La Valla School Chapel. Cathy served Parramatta Marist in a number of different capacities, in the school Canteen, the Hospitality Department and in more recent years our school Library, everyda...y bringing her incredible sense of humour and hearty laugh, and always wearing a smile on her face. Cathy was very much the embodiment of the Marist Charisms that are so central to our school. Her love of her work was infectious, going about her days with no desire or wish for praises and plaudits. She spent every second trying to make the schooling experience of our students better, and even after her passing, the books that she has ordered for our library continue to pour in. She was an indispensable part of Parramatta Marist, contributing so much work behind the scenes and always treating the staff and students as members of her own family. We ask all of you to please keep Cathy, her family and her friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We will miss you Cathy, you will always be with us

15.01.2022 ANZAC DAY 2020: These two Old Boy servicemen, John McNamara and Stan O'Grady, were to be honoured by the school at their service this year. Instead, the details of their sacrifice was sent out online to students. Lest We Forget. Fortior Ito

15.01.2022 The 'unofficial' 2020 Sons and Grandsons Photo (as taken by an Old Boy staff member and shared with the OBU). Great to see 90+ Sons and Grandsons of Old Boys currently enrolled at PMH in this bicentenary year of Continuous Catholic Schooling and 145 years as a Marist school. Fortior Ito.

15.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET - these images were sent to the Old Boys Union today. Well done to the fine young students who commemorated Anzac at dawn on the weekend. Fortior Ito

11.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, an old friend of PMHS, Dave Dwyer, a teacher from 1985 to 2000, and the coach of the 1st XIII rugby league team for much of that time, visited the school. Since leaving Parramatta Marist, teaching and rugby league coaching, Dave has gone on to make a successful career out of his other passion - bookmaking. Dave was extremely impressed with the new STEM area and the work of our school archivist, Brad Murphy, in documenting the history of the school. Da...ve was also very impressed with the rugby league games from the 1990's that Brad has playing on rotation on the monitor in our school archive (watch this space). Although schoolboy rugby league no longer has quite the same profile, Dave could see that the many and varied passions of our students are still being catered to by the dedicated staff. Thanks for dropping by Dave! To read more about Dave, see the following story from the ABC: https://www.abc.net.au//old-school-bookmaker-cash/12176038

10.01.2022 In 2020, Precision Metal Group (PMG) and Lincoln Electric have partnered with Parramatta Marist to develop an ongoing metals and welding program with an interest to foster STEM skills so that our students are better prepared to contribute to Australia's rapidly growing advanced fabrication and high-end manufacturing industries. PMG owner, Jason Elias (who completed the School Certificate at Parramatta Marist in 1995), and fellow industry partner Charles El-Bayeh (PMHS Class o...f 1998), believed that Parramatta Marist was the right place to start this initiative as we have many talented students with various skills and ambitions ranging from high-end, industrial welders and designers to mechanical engineers. 'All types of skills and school graduates are needed to rebuild the manufacturing base here in Australia,' said Jason. PMG has a number of Australian Defence contracts, including the assembly and manufacture of the new Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle. 'An important aspect of this defence project is the need for high-skilled armoured welders whose attention to detail is critical so that Australian troops are kept safe in any theatre that these armoured vehicles go,' continued Jason. The commitment of PMG and Lincoln to bring along all students into the manufacturing sector is clearly demonstrated by the industry-standard welding bays (including custom welding benches made by PMG) and state-of-the-art welding machines (supplied by Lincoln Electric). Jason and Charles are pictured below conducting a safety workshop with our Year 10 iSTEM boys in preparation for welding training with industry leaders. To begin, our Year 10 iSTEM boys will rotate through fortnightly 2-hour welding core skills workshops, while self-nominated students will undertake intensive welding training at PMG's facility in Wetherill Park. Our shared vision is to have more and more students exposed to the industry as well as be certified as armoured vehicle welders before they graduate from Parramatta Marist, providing them with pathways supported by a skill set in demand by Australian Defence Force. Our wonderful partnership with PMG and Lincoln Electric has raised again the standard and opportunities available through an integrative STEM education at Parramatta Marist. Our students represent a sound investment for future employers, as they carry a love of work and family spirit. 'For the boys at Parramatta Marist, the sky's the limit. I only wish that we had the same opportunities back in my day. It would have saved me five years,' said Jason. Mr John Phillips STEM Coordinator

05.01.2022 Congratulations to Roberto D'Angelo on being awarded the 2020 Gunner Kevin Dolahenty Trophy for the best fielder in the First XI Cricket Team. Thank you to Adrian Dolahenty (Class of 1986) for gifting the award to the school and taking the time to present it to Roberto. Fortior Ito

04.01.2022 Picked up 'over the wire': "Parramatta Marist launched our virtual school today to ensure all boys are still learning. The first virtual homeroom ran today. Teachers were monitoring the sign-on process in real time!". Fortior Ito

03.01.2022 Happy Champagnat Day to all Marists around the world! If you wish to join the association, please visit here http://www.maristassociation.org.au/ Fortior Ito

02.01.2022 The Old Boys Union would like to acknowledge all health care workers involved in containing and combating COVID-19. That includes the many Old Boy doctors, nurses, health professionals and medical researchers who are (or will be) at the forefront of this battle. Old Boys like Professor Peter Collignon AM (Class of 1970), who you may have seen in the media recently discussing the impact of the virus and urging calm and a common sense approach - something that is much needed at this time.
