24.01.2022 Did you know that November 8th is International Day of Radiology! While we missed it by two days this year, It is celebrated every year, and coincides with the anniversary of the discovery of the existence of x-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895. This day was created to promote the role of medical imaging in modern healthcare. We at Parramatta Veterinary Hospital are lucky enough to have our own radiology facilities (xrays and ultrasound).... #parramattavet #parramattaveterinaryhospital #veterinarymedicine #radiology #diagnostics #xray #ultrasound

20.01.2022 As the weather warms up, it's understandable that you would want to spend more time outside with your dog. However, apart from your local park it can be hard to find new and exciting places to take your dog. As it turns out, there are a lot of places around Sydney that are not dog friendly. Luckily, we have found a complete guide of Sydney's dog friendly beaches... * Only take your dog to places where they will be surrounded by people and other dogs if they are adequately so...cialised. It can be quite stressful for you and your dog to take them somewhere that can increase their anxiety, creates reactivity and potentially incites aggression. #parramattavet #parramattaveterinaryhospital #dogbeaches #funinthesun #poochesatplay #dogfriendlybeach

11.01.2022 Public Service Announcement The Hills Shire Council, in conjunction with Local Land Services will be undertaking a rabbit-baiting program within selected parks and bushland reserves in the Hills Shire. The program will run from Monday 9th November to Tuesday 17th November 2020. Please be aware if you take your pets, or know of anyone who takes their pets, to the following reserves, that they will be closed to the public during those dates:... * Castle Hill Heritage Park, Castle Hill * Bella Vista Farm, Bella Vista * Equinox Reserve, Box Hill The pesticide being used in this program is lethal to dogs and cats. The clinical signs to look out for are: * Hemorrhage (bleeding both internally and from orifices, such as the nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum). Which usually occurs approximately 2-3 days after ingestion * Gastrointestinal issues. Such as, bloody diarrhoea, black stools, and vomiting blood * Coughing and/or coughing up blood * Difficulty or rapid breathing * Exercise intolerance, lethargy, depression * Pale gums If you are suspicious that your pet may have ingested something the shouldn't have, please contact your local vet ASAP.

10.01.2022 Tick season is here, and extra care is necessary to ensure that your pets and family don’t become victims of these dangerous parasites. Ticks pose a serious health risk to people and can be lethal for our pets. The paralysis tick injects a neurotoxin into the bloodstream of its host which can cause progressive paralysis of muscles throughout the body. Be sure to check your pets every day for these potential killers. Brush your fingers through their fur and feel for any bumps.... Check behind ears, around the head and tail, under armpits, and between toes. Ticks are black or dark brown in colour but turn a greyish-white after feeding. Removing embedded ticks is a delicate procedure, and attempting to remove them with tweezers creates a risk of inadvertently crushing the tick and causing further release of toxin, plus increases the possibility of infection at the bite site. We therefore recommend bringing your pets to us immediately if you find one. We can provide advice on appropriate repellent medications to safeguard your pets. We recommend the use of them regularly, particularly during spring and summer. In addition to regular daily checks, pets should be checked after exposure to long grass, bush walks and visits to the beach. #parramattavet #tickseason #preventatives
